I’ve been to the Irvine & Foothill Ranch locations– both with great service for such a «fast food» type joint. I dunno– this place has low stars but I LOVE their food. This is where I come for my spam ‘n slop fix– the Loco Moco bowl, all-spam, extra gravy & over-easy egg. MMMM. Heaven for me! I occasionally get a side of their macaroni salad which is TODIE and so full of FAT. MMMM. Their sides are large, so beware if you think you’re just«trying» something. You could share with 2 – 3 people lol. No complaints thus far!

I’ve eaten here many times & after each time I tell myself that I won’t be coming back. I’m actually surprised it’s still in business. I always order the Kalbi Ribs &BBQ Chicken with white rice & mac salad. The mac salad is consistently good, but the Kalbi Ribs &BBQ Chicken are horrible. They both sit in a pool of grease and dripping in grease when you pick them up to eat them. The meat on both the ribs & chicken are always burnt & charred on both sides every time I eat there. Every time I eat there I regret trying it again, so this visit will finally be my last

I tried this place yesterday and I was not happy with my food. I had the Chicken Katsu with Mac Salad and Rice. The Chicken Katsu was paper thin where there was more breading than chicken and it was over cooked. The Mac Salad was a little different since it was a potato mac salad and didnt care for the texture. The only thing that was decent was the rice. Sadly I am probably not going to try this place again and I really enjoy Hawaiian food and this place is 2 minutes from my work. The search continues.

Da Luau is just okay when it comes to their Hawaiian food. Their BBQ chicken is probably the best thing on the menu. The pulled pork is good too, but you definitely have to add their house sauce and eat it w/the salted greens it comes with. Their poke is pretty mediocre, I wouldn’t order it again. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here, but with limited options in Foothill Ranch, it’s worth a look if you’re in the area.

I will not be coming back… My boy friend and I went and got the chicken salad and chicken katsu to go. We waited for a very long time to get our food and we were the only people in there. The restaurant was so cold we had to get our food to go because I wouldn’t be comfortable. When we got our food the chicken salad didn’t have dressing and was missing the peanuts, there was one very small piece of pineapple for a Hawaiian place. My boyfriends plate had no rice when traditionally the meal comes with it. He got Mac salad and didn’t eat it because it was the worse he’d ever had and he loves Hawaiian food. When we got it home the chicken on my salad was bland and the hard boiled egg wasn’t all the way done Overall not a fan and now we are looking to have dinner again because we didn’t eat the food we spend about $ 30 on.

For my birthday my Mom had this place cater a couple side dishes for my party at our house. The service was fine, she called in advance and picked up both trays the day of my birthday party. She ordered one tray of poke and one tray of Hawaiian mac salad for a total of $ 180, which is kinda expensive for just two trays. We would of been ok with the price if it wasn’t for the ahi tuna poke. It just wasn’t as good as we expected. There wasn’t that much fish, it was more like a poke salad, but on the menu it was just called poke. It was also topped with sliced oranges and hard boiled eggs which was weird, very unnecessary toppings. I tried a small portion of the poke and it didn’t even taste that good. It tasted a bit old and fishy. The pieces weren’t very uniform and they were gristly. My Mom didn’t even get to have any poke because there was so little we ran out very quickly. Very disappointing. The macaroni salad was good though and we had more than enough for everyone. Probably not going to order poke from this place again and I don’t recommend it.

I tried the ahi salad and the ahi was fishy. The salad looked good(½ a hardboiled egg, a few avocado slices, light soy/ponzu dressing over lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers) it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t awesome. It wasn’t filling for lunch either! The sauce was tasty but the fish wasn’t fresh. At $ 12 you’d think I’d get more fish too it was mostly lettuce. The sauces were the redemptive characteristic and fresh avocado. The service was quick and the guy at the front was helpful/nice. I’m not sure if I’d go back to try the poke bowl with rice given the ahi was fishy.(The sauce and onion blend was good though)

Had my 40th family birthday party here. The manager was kind enough to close down and cater to our 40+ family members. The atmosphere and food was awesome.

Visited Da Luau on a beautiful summer Saturday afternoon to find only a few patrons. It’s in the very middle of this plaza; next to the fountain where little ones can splash and have fun. Hawaiian themed and nicely executed décor. Monitors display their menus in front of the register or you can grab a printed menu offered at the register. . _ . _(‘ — ‘) _ /‘ ‘. \ /. ’ ‘ \ ‘ ‘ ’ -. ‚=,. — ’ ‘ ‘ .. ’ //v \ \ ‘. .(_/\ ” /\ _) . ’ — ‘ Durable plastic cups are given for your drinks and you just walk to their beverage machine to the right of the registers. They have plastic utensils and napkins for your to-go meals at the beverage station but they bring silverware with napkins when serving your food at the table of your choosing. If you sit outside, just be warned you might be approached by the toddlers/kids playing at the fountain. My first ever Ahi Poke bowl and so glad I had it here. It was a large portion with brown rice, too. The dressing is on the side for your convenience. The Ahi was cut in good bite-sized pieces and sprinkles with sesame seeds. The staff seemed friendly but a bit bored. My friend asked for some BBQ sauce and received a squeeze bottle with multiple lines of sauce from the outside lid to the bottom; I’m happy I grabbed those extra napkins from the beverage station. Overall I would like to come back and try their other menu items. They have vegan options like tofu.

Unilocal’s photo of their japchae enticed me to come here(despite the suggestion to NOT order it). For a Hawaiian luau takeout fix, just an OK~ large dining room, nothing exceptional in customer service or flavor in my own opinion. Stars reflect lackluster customer service and unusual Hawaiian flavors than what I expected. I ordered a two item combo with beef teriyaki and chicken katsu here on my first visit. Also the japchae and their musubi appetizer. HUGE combo plate portions, yes, but I only ate about a third of my meal. While I was content with the few bites only to not waste with guilt, the«standouts» were the Mac salad, musubi, and white meat crispness from the katsu. In my opinion, nothing exceptionally tasty, though. Spam Musubi appetizer has 4 thin slices and a would be a good snack in the future. Very subtle sweet sweet flavors in their beef teriyaki and creamy macaroni salad, but the beef had too much gristle for my liking. The chicken katsu was tender white meat and yet a light outside crisp. Scoop of rice and Mac salad joined the combo. They do give you an array of side dishes to choose from on their menu. Their japchae has a larger selection of vegetables in their version. I thought it may be like a Korean version, but it was not at all. Overall simple stir fry noodle dish but their glass noodles were just too sweet for my palette. I could only have a few bites of that. I’ll revisit for a musubi fix, or try their ramen next time and give it another whirl here.

This place used to be awesome, not so much anymore. The staff seem like they hate their job, I couldn’t get a smile out of the cashier or the server. The poke also used to be much better. I suspect since the change in ownership, their buyer has changed. The quality of the fish has gone down and they are serving smaller pieces of salmon. Smothering in spicy sauce is not the solution to mask the quality difference. Meh.

Ordering was a bit of a challenge since the cashier spoke limited English. After ordering I took a seat and waited for my to go order. Fifteen minutes later another employee said, «oh they didn’t make your order, they are starting it now». It was pretty much an oh well, sucks for you attitude. When I was handed my food I asked the original cashier what happened and he looked confused and just said he was sorry. Both seemed to want to blame the kitchen and didn’t see overt concerned. No offer of compensation, really annoying. No option for white meat with Teriyaki, really?

Best of this kind of food around. Good variety of menu options and better food quality than places like L&L Hawaiian. Oversized portions are plenty to satisfy the most gluttonous. They have draft beers, syrupy BBQ sauce, Hawaiian fruit drinks, Sriracha, and Coke products(we all know Pepsi is inferior). The interior is cool, calm, and interestingly decorated, but the a.m. shaded outside patio seating with water fountain is my favorite.

Loco Moco all the way! Came here with some friends. Alright food, however I wish they’d give a little more meat with their dishes. I like that you can combo it up. But I stuck with a staple & got the Loco Moco.

There aren’t many Hawaiian joints around town so when I stumble across one, it’s a blessing. I love Hawaiian food. It’s very comforting and almost everything is delicious. Da Luau guys the spot when you have a hankering for Hawaiian cuisine. The two of us split two plates consisting of kalbi, coconut fish, island chicken, poke and spam musubi. I enjoyed the meal. The kalbi was pretty delicious. Tender meat and flavored wonderfully. The poke tasted fresh and had a good texture. The spam musubi was also pretty great! The fish was ok. It was crispy but was a little bland. The coconut sauce wasn’t my cup of tea. The island chicken sounded great(battered fried chicken thighs) but it was a little overcooked. But overall I enjoyed the meal. This is a clean restaurant with great service. There are a couple of TVs on the walls so you can check out the games. This place also has a happy hour everyday. EVERYDAY! Including weekends! From 3 – 6. $ 2.99 beers! Give da luau a try!

I was like craving something Hawaiian, and of course I Unilocaled it and found this Hawaiian Grill. Went to see their website and I was able to look at their menus. Menus are pretty straight forward just like other restaurants where they have descriptions and everything. I ordered the lava plate; basically, the lava plate comes with Chicken, Spicy Pork, and Beef BBQ, and two sides of your choice. I opted for their steamed white rice and macaroni salad. I also ordered the chicken wings, and coconut fish on the side. The gal said the food should be ready in 15 minutes. I was like, impressive. I was on my way to this place and the parking lot was never busy, place is located in a tiny strip mall-ish where Mahi Mahi Grill, Calif. Fish Grill are located. I walked in; I was never greeted, even though there were two gals in the floor plus one gal in the counter. I was like that’s fine; I was not here to hear their greeting but to fill up my stomach-craving-Hawaiian-food. But then again, I was standing on the side pretending I was looking at their menu, but deep inside, I was still waiting to be greeted. Not until after 2-ish minutes when that other gal greeted me, well, that’s when I said hello to her. And so I paid my order, took it at work. I like smelling food, catlike, before taking it in. I was like, ohlalala. The BBQ’s smelled really really delicious. So I assumed, it would taste just like how it smelled. And oh boy, was I wrong, I wasn’t. My meats were delicious, juicy, tasty, tender, and meaty. I soo loved the spicy pork, it was not too spicy, it was perfect. The rice was not the best rice, it was so dry. The macaroni salad didn’t taste that good. I’ve had better ones at some other places. The chicken wings however, were fabulous. The coconut fish was good, I just didn’t like the pineapple sauce that came with it, a simple soy sauce would have been fine. Overall, my first time encounter with this restaurant was fabulous. Though customer service needs improvement, meats were perfect. Be hospitable. Thrive.

Fatty meat? Of course. It’s not da kine without the fat. I go for the spicy BBQ pork with double Mac salad. The servings are smaller than before, but the sauce is unbelievable and they grill it till it’s crunchy. Loco Moco can be hamburger, spam, or Portuguese sausage. Super size it with all three meats and you will be my hero.

I don’t know about you, but when I think Hawaiian, I kind of think of overflowing plates of food. Whereever I go to get Hawaiian, I usually get some sort of plate that’s around $ 10, a little pricey, but worthwhile because you get it for two meals. My sister ordered the chicken katsu w/grilled veggies and the mac salad. I just got a simple ahi poke taco because I wasn’t feeling that hungry. We got to go, and didn’t really open our food until we got home(we really must stop doing this and start checking out our food)… we were surprised at how little there was! My sister managed to eat everything before I even finished my one little taco. Mac salad — meh, doesn’t really taste like anything and doesn’t have flavor. Chicken Katsu — meh, too overdone Grilled veggies — tastes frozen Ahi poke taco — ahi poke was good, taco shell seemed old and not very tasty. My dog enjoyed the shell though… Chips with salsa — grossest salsa I’ve ever had, tried a little and I wanted to yak, smelled like it had gone bad too. I enjoyed my Ahi poke but that was pretty much it, portions are small for a Hawaiian joint.
