Took my 13yr old son here after a youth basketball game. Kids are welcome and we sat upstairs played shuffle board and darts. Food was great and our server was outstanding. Sons soda was out and few min later s fresh one came without asking. Well done. Food was very good and Homemade fresh. We will be back!

I truly wanted to enjoy this place as I love my beer and would really like to see Forest Grove have some nice restaurants in it. I think I might come back here for the beer but that’s about it. I have visited three times now as I always try and give places a chance. The first time was enjoyable the beer was fine the english pasties were new and flavorful but everything took quite some time. The reason for part of this is because I was told the food is made to order. Great I love to hear that but the service was rather slow. The second and third time were much worse. The food was still decent but nothing to write home about. The service on the other hand was non existent. My wife showed up 20 minutes before me which was fine as we were shuttling our kids around so I told her to order for me. Well I got there a little late and they just got their order in and the table finally got cleaned. Sadly the waiter who was different then the prior two times was almost never seen after taking our order. We never got our drinks refilled and the beer I ordered was drank and I was never given a chance to order another. I like the food its fine the beer is okay nothing great as they dont have a great selection of beers that aren’t crap. I can’t be forgiving about service though as I am paying for great food and even better service. Also one last thing to note. Seating for families is very sparce dont go with more then 4 unless you dont have minors in your party as most of the seating is at the bar.

I love this place. When I first heard that it was coming into town here I was excited, I love British food and I had high hopes for this location. They lived up to every expectation. I have been here multiple times now and every time the service has been excellent, the food has been delicious, and the place itself is great to be in. The restaurant is fairly quiet, only loud when certain groups are there but even then it’s not that bad. It’s always clean and the service is impeccable, I’ve never felt like I waited too long for food. The bar is just as good, the bartenders are attentive and the drinks are delicious. The televisions are tuned to whatever sport is on and the most interesting and the ambiance is classic British pub. Long story short, go to this place if you want some great British food. I recommend one of the pasties, they come out hot and delicious.

Ordered fries with the«English» dip, was corrected and offered to upgrade to potato wedges. Potato wedges were eh, but the dip was great. Bangers and Mash were decent. Service was accommodating yet parochial.

It is the best brash British Pub in the North West. If you want fresh shredded cheese on your salad then you should bugger off. They have great Pasties, Bangers and Mash, a very cheesy filled Mac and cheese, and other sorts of great British foods. If you go to a pub and expect a mixed drink then you should go back to the asylum you escaped from.

This place is tons of fun! The pastie was quite tasty and the salads are also great. We like to go here often. Basically whenever possible, we go for dinner. The guys who run this place are super friendly and actually remember people who have been in before. The beer selection changes as things get used up and as the beer from UK sometimes takes forever to arrive on a boat. Ask what is currently available.

Owner helped us, a British guy who was rushed, rude and brought dirty glasses with lipstick on it. Greasy and unimpressive food and poor service, I question how clean it is.

I have to tell you, I really didn’t know what to expect when my wife and I decided to try the place out. We had lived in the Grove for a year and had not felt inclined to frequent. However, the food was incredible, the service was great and loved the atmosphere. I had the pasties, and they were awesome. My wife had the English Dip and loved it as well. We will be coming back again and again to this place as there were so many appetizing dishes on the menu, we had a difficult time deciding what to order. If you are troubled by some of the other folks reviews — decide for yourself. Some people serve no other purpose but to trash other people. I mean, c’mon — some of the reviews I’ve read are just blatently stupid. My wife and I LOVE this place.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in a town of great places to eat. I go to school at Pacific, and if I feel I want to go out to eat, this is always my first choice. I’ve never been unsatisfied with anything I’ve eaten here, and I’ve tried quite a few things. The sausage rolls and Scotch Egg are great choices for appetizers, or even as a small meal for one person. I often order a pasty as my main course, which features the same delicious dough as the sausage rolls and the best gravy I’ve ever had. But the real deal-sealers are the items in the«Traditional Supper» section. Every time I order mine with the soup of the day, which has always been different but fantastic every time. The meatloaf, mash, cottage pies, and mac ‘n’ cheese are excellent and feel like they came right out of my mom’s kitchen at home. The bangers are a little bland and the chips are thick and leave something to be desired, though. The staff is exceptionally friendly to regulars and newcomers alike. The lively atmosphere from the bar flows throughout the entire restaurant, and combined with the good choice in background music make for a joyful atmosphere. The server won’t be rushing you out the door with the check, you can just take it down and pay at the register whenever you’re ready. The orders can get ever so slightly on the pricey side(at least for college student standards), but the ample portions are worth every penny. Every time I eat here, the next meal I have afterwards is always disappointing, because it’s NOT King’s Head.

A friend of mine from work told me that he and his Girlfriend stumbled across this place one weekend and that he really enjoyed it, especially the Scotch Egg. Years ago I used to go to a place in Santa Monica, California called«Ye Olde King’s Head» and loved it, so I then looked this place up, here on Unilocal, and found many very good reviews. I then decided, since I love a good English Pub, and a delicious Scotch Egg, that I should give the place a try. On a lovely Thursday evening my Girlfriend and I, with great expectations, decided to make the drive from Beaverton to Forest Grove to experience The King’s Head Pub. Upon arrival we found the place to be quite small, mostly a bar with a very few tables in a separate room. We sat down at a table and were quickly greeted by a very nice and friendly server, who gave us menus. I ordered a Guinness, assuming that it would be on tap at an English style pub, but was disappointed to be given a pint can instead. I ordered the Scotch Egg and we then looked over the menu. The menu is fairly small but filled with a number of English pub food items. They have a «baked» Fish & Chips, which I ordered and my Girlfriend ordered the Cottage Pie(Shepard’s Pie?). The Scotch Egg came out first and was a little disappointing in flavor and texture, too much sausage around the hard boiled egg, without a crusty layer on the outside, and the sausage could have been a bit more spicy or had more flavor. The Baked Fish & Chips and Cottage Pie came next, and were also very disappointing. I assumed the baked fish would be fairly light and flaky, but what came out was a block of Cod fish that was very dense, very greasy, and burnt on one side(as if fried in a pan); the Chips were also very greasy and appeared to have been reheated in some sort of frying pan; although the Tarter Sauce was tasty. I did not try my Girlfriend’s Cottage Pie but she was also quite disappointed in that as well. The servers were friendly and attentive, for most of the meal, but what seemed like a very long wait for the check and payment process ended the meal. I don’t think I will return to The King’s Head Pub again any time soon. If I want an English Pub style atmosphere I’ll head to SE Portland and The Horse Brass.

Always fantastic, the atmosphere is just right and the food always hits the spot. Not only that, but the owner and workers are great. My favorite dinner spot and bar in Forest Grove.

In Forest Grove I found myself dreaming of being transported to a small friendly pub just across the pond. My heart yearned for great food and great service, the kind of place you could really just hang up your coat, have a beer and watch the game. Not only did me and the man get great service, but the food was AMAZING. The kind of food I imagine I would get from my long lost(never really existed because I’m not English) grandmother in Manchester. I had some delicious Shepard’s pie with melty cheese and beef and some yummy bread pudding for dessert. I’m involuntarily salivating while writing this review. Check them out! Great owners as well. Much love!

Friday night, 6:00. Wife N. and I are pondering«cook in» or «dine out». So I looked around a bit and found The King’s Head and it’s…wait…isn’t that where Grendel’s is? Well, it’s more like«used to be.» New owners Les and Wayne took over the place a few months back, and with them came what appears to be a completely revamped and quite the authentic menu. Les warmly greeted us on our way in the door and guided us to our table. I started with a(Imperial — 20oz) pint of Boddington’s. I’m quite familiar with it, though up to this point in my life I’ve only had it in the imported cans. It hit the spot and did not disappoint. Wife decided on a Long Island Iced tea(which followed with me ribbing her about how British a cocktail that sounded… NOT). But it was reasonably good. Each of us ordered an appetizer: I ordered the Scotch Egg and she ordered the Welsh Rarebit(Welsh Rabbit). A Scotch Egg is a hard-boiled egg, encased in sausage, breaded and then baked(or fried — The King’s Head bakes theirs). The sausage was sourced fresh from Portland and they added a few of their own spices to it. It was excellent, and served with whole-grain mustard. Very good for the $ 4ish. I’ve had a few around Portland and this was far and away the best. Neither Wife N nor I have ever had a Welsh Rabbit. Think big thick slices of bread, toasted, then smothered with a savory beer-cheese sauce, accompanied with some lovely sliced green onions. This was not Nacho-cheese-and-bread. The cheese was complex and deep and the green onions complemented it quite well. Next we shared a plate of fish and chips, which Les delivered split for us(nice touch!). Most fish and chips is battered then deep-fried, but here they bread and bake it. It was a nice, crisp, but not greasy fish and was flavored nicely, along with the house-made tartar sauce. Honestly, British food has a reputation for being a bit… umm…bland. But I really didn’t get any of that here. This is a great upgrade to what already was a decent British-style pub to begin with. Everything was flavorful and well-made, and we’re looking forward to returning for some pasties. And another Boddington’s.

In the forest of mediocre food… this place the pinnacle of home cooked goodness. Me and my other half were a bit skittish to stop in for dinner. I read the good reviews, but it doesn’t look like much from the outside. However, in a land filled with chain restaurants and Mc this and that… this was a welcomed little spot that I thought would be promising. In short: WECAN’T WAITTOGOBACK!!! My other half had the Scottish eggs. He loved them, the taste and uniqueness. We shared the baked fish and chips and a ploughmans«lunch»(they have it under the apps… so they call it platter). Fish was great. Tasty and better than fried(can you imagine that?)/what I expected. Ploughmans was plentiful and the wonderful staff gave me refills on my hot & crispy bread. Had a few drinks… they make a mean martini…(well, at least one of the bar keeps do!!) If you are like me and want good, homecooked food, go there. If you want frilly food with garnishes and fancy atomosphere… there are plenty of spots in hillsboro/portland that maybe down your ally.
