where to begin? on friday june 24th2016 i had contacted an old friend that i haven’t seen in a few years, so i suggested tazzina just simply because it’s near my home but i had not yet been there… suffice to say .i’m glad that we went… the bartender /waitress meagan was gracious and friendly and read us a list of amazing specials as well as keeping our glasses full i had the caesar salad(as did my dinner partner)…with an amazing home made dressing i then had the zuppa di pesci which was stellar and my friend enjoyed the truffled gnocchi(equally amazing)…now the prices aren’t cheap .yet they will not shatter the old piggy bank by any means… and after all who can really put a price on an amazing dinner… with great service and atmosphere… and chef/owner jason zukas was also very charming… so if you haven’t eaten at tazzina so …you won’t be sorry

The food was great– everything we ordered was delicious. The reason I would only give 3 stars is because of the service/wait time. We waited a while for drink menus, and for our order to be taken– but being that it was. Saturday night it wasn’t really a problem. Once the salads/appetizers came, one dish was missing. We were told it would be out in less than a minute. 10 minutes later, everyone was done with salads so we cancelled that dish. We then waited an hour for our food. Again, we were told the food would be out in 5−7minutes, which turned out to be 30 minutes. They offered to send a few desserts to the table, which we appreciated but again, had to wait about 20minutes for those. The owner was walking through the restaurant all night and never once stopped at our table to apologize for the wait.

The food is good but nothing to go crazy about. The entrees are overpriced and the décor needs some improvement to make it feel more inviting.

Jason: In response to a bad review most owners/managers would apologize for the bad experience and perhaps offer a round of drinks or maybe some dessert. not try to justify why his staff was having a bad night. Frankly I don’t care. I was not«bashing» your restaurant as I CLEARLY stated how much i enjoyed dining there during my first two visits. I was simply describing what happened exactly how it happened. Pretty sure walking out of a place after sitting around being ignored for 25 minutes merits a one star review

Really glad I tried this Italian Restaurant! It’s located in a nice area in Metropolitan Avenue. Everything from the beginning was just great. They welcome you with one of the best grilled pita bread strips, accompanied by an olive kind of dipping sauce. I love olives, so thumps up for that! My friend and I opted for the truffled gnocchi as appetizer. It tasted so good that we were thinking of ordering it as an entrée. But we decided to try the other entrees. I went for the oreccchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage, and although I am into creamy sauces, the combination and flavor really left me more than satisfied and happy. Good portion size too! My friend went for the special of the day, which name I can’t remember but seems to be really good! Nothing left on the plate! And of course, to close the deal, we needed to try dessert. Usually, we will split a dessert, but I saw other tables having different kinds that I could not help myself, yeah, we ordered two: nutella lava cake and«coffee and donuts». OMG, we both had them and although pants were about to explode(too much food), we had to finish it! Delicious!!! The gelatos that come with either dessert are just tasty and fresh! Jason, you are doing a great job… and you will see me again soon! Next time I am trying the drinks.

Had an amazing Birthday here in March with family & friends of 10. We made reservations for 845 but was not seated until about 930 which I felt was really uncomfortable because the space is really small. So standing by the door for so long feels a little weird. As the party was seated, our waitress was beyond a sweetheart when it came to catering with this crowd of customers. Everyone favorite was the fried calamari dish sooooo good that 4 orders were made. The regular salad that they have pretty gross. The dinner was the show of the night. Everyone ordered pretty much fish, steak or pasta and the chef knows how to cook. I ordered the grilled salmon with vegetables. The most flavoring grill charcoals salmon. I was smiling how flaky & pink that salmon was cook to perfection. We sang happy birthday with the brownie ice cream dessert. I really like this place the bonus was meeting the chef at the end of the night his food is amazing and I will definitely be back again with a way smaller crowd lol

My ricotta blueberry pancakes were moist & fluffy but slightly burnt on bottom– but i like it that way. The chipotle margarita is a definitely must try ! Definitely will come back for prefix dinner on tues /wed or another nt for dinner. Dessert jutella lavacake & different gelatos(espresso/hazelnut/pistacchio) — leave room of you can

I had been dying to go back to Tazzina ever since they closed in Glendale. ITWASWELLWORTHTHEFRIGGINWAIT!!! Went there to celebrate my girlfriends birthday in early February. Greeted warmly upon arrival and we could sit wherever we wanted(wasn’t busy as we were going there when they first opened for dinner). Service was great and attentive as well. Appetizer Truffled gnocchi: THISHASTOBEORDEREDWHENYOUGO. DONOTDISOBEYTHISORDER!!! They are so nicely cooked in a light truffle sauce with prosciutto and peas and taste amazeballs. Entrees Spicy shrimp alla vodka:(the menu said lobster alla vodka but they were out so they did shrimp for me instead). I asked for not too spicy and it was perfectly cooked! Highly recommend this dish. Rigatoni with Sunday gravy: came with a nice size meatball, sausage and ricotta with the rigatoni and sauce. Very good but the lady was jealous with my dish! Lol! Dessert Yeah right, try getting to this portion! Hahaha. Overall, it is a great place(again!) and we will be back for other special occasions. The prices are a little up there but well worth the quality!

We dined here last Saturday evening and had a terrific meal. Our reservation was for 7:00PM and — despite the frigid temps outside — the restaurant was packed. We arrived a few minutes early and(understandably) had to wait for a table to become available. We may have waited at most 5 – 10 minutes past our reservation time but that was fine. The bartender came out to us and asked if we’d like to order a drink while we waited. We politely declined but it was nice that she would come over to us to ask. As for the interior, it’s not a huge venue and the tables are on the smallish side. That being said, we didn’t feel like we were on top of the next table and we were able to carry a conversation without feeling like the neighboring table was listening in. The music, too, helped by providing a little«cover» so that you couldn’t easily hear or be heard by those right next to you. The walls & deep red paint made for a cozy and warm environment. Soon after we sat down, our server brought out a plate of warm, grilled pita bread cut into easy-to-eat strips, accompanied by an olive tapenade/oil. I’m a huge fan of olives so I loved it, especially with the smokiness of the pita bread to balance out the saltiness of the olive. For appetizers, we had the beet salad and a crab cake. The beet salad was awesome and well balanced with delightful little goat cheese fritters, some grapefruit, and hazelnuts topped with arugula and just enough balsamic dressing. The whole thing was well put together. If I had a solitary complaint it’s that the beets were diced a little too small for my preference and made it a little tough to stab with my work. No biggie though — I just my knife to help guide it onto my fork and make for faster«loading». The crab cake(a special that evening) was accompanied by a delicate tartar sauce smear and crispy slaw with a nice bite to it, to offset the pungency of the crab. For my main course, I had the chicken parmigiana which I have to say was some of the best I’ve had recently. The cutlet was just thick enough and not overly breaded. The mozzarella/provolone combo was wonderfully salty and perfectly melted on. The arrabiata sauce was the perfect sidekick and I love the perfect spiciness of it. I’m not a fan of sweeter marinara sauces so this was right up my alley. It was sizable but didn’t make me feel gross afterwards, especially since I polished off the whole plate! My wife had the oreccchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage. It was a lighter dish than mine and just fine in my opinion but it couldn’t stand up to the punch and heft of my chicken parmigiana. I would have enjoyed well enough if I were in the mood and hadn’t already been raving over my chicken. For dessert we shared a nice apple tart that was topped with cinnamon. It was neither too heavy nor too sweet and satisfied our sweet tooth. The dress code here is casual so you can get away with wearing something nice if you’re celebrating something or come dressed in comfy jeans if you just want to be more relaxed. We saw couple wearing their Valentine’s Weekend best and others who were in much more casual attire. None looked out of place however. The pricing is also on point and the menu is diverse enough to offer something for everyone. Our server(whose name I forgot to grab) was attentive, very knowledgeable about the menu, and very helpful. He easily rattled off about 6 – 8 specials for the evening but didn’t make us feel like we had to go for any of them… even though the crab cakes and dessert he described did entice us to try them. Tazzina, we hope to see you again soon!

Tazzina Started really well! The restaurant was full, but my reservation via OpenTable was saved and we sat right away. Food was really good, even though it took a while to be served. But the initial 2 wines bottles that I chose from the menu were not available so I had to go with the house wine. Also they seemed to be short staffed so service was quite slow, but still very attentive. Overall was a very good dinner, for a reasonable price.

Great spot in Forest Hills! The service is super attentive and quick! Our waitress was knowledgeable and very friendly. The hostess was adorable and very welcoming. Came here for dinner and each plate was perfect. The short rib polenta was out of this world so much flavor, the lobster a la vodka. on point, the burrata to start was delicious. We ended the meal with every desert on the menu, which was totally necessary. I dream about Nutella cake with ice cream. Also, for a cocktail the Goodfella is so good if you’re a whiskey drinker. Overall I love this place and it’s definitely my go to when in Forest Hills. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED

There is quite literally nothing negative I can write about this place. The food was absolutely amazing, the service was friendly and on point, and the ambiance was chill. We tried a whole lot of dishes(I don’t want to butcher their names); a couple of chicken ones, a couple of pasta ones, and a few different appetizers. We also tried pretty much every dessert on the menu. Everything was awesome. All-in-all we had a great time. 10/10, would recommend.

Went here with a group of 8 for my wife’s birthday dinner on a Wednesday night. It was not packed luckily so we were able to park our baby stroller next to our table without issue. The menu options were great and it was a nice bonus that they had 3 course prixe fixe options. Food was on the plus side but nothing was a must have. The only thing that was a(slight) negative was the speed of service. I understand that it takes longer for a larger group but felt the pacing was a bit lacking especially since we did have our baby with us. Overall, it was good birthday dinner and they even sliced/served the birthday cake we brought without charging us an additional fee(I’ve been to some businesses where they charge a cake cutting fee) I’d recommend this place for a decent Italian meal at a great price especialy if you go on a Tues/Wed for the prixe fixe. Just note that it isn’t the best option for families/parents with children under 2 years old.

The food was good. Chicken parm I don’t think I ever had a good chicken parm. Solid and huge portion. I also got gnocchi alla tazzina it wasn’t as good as I thought. It was too greasy for me. Atmosphere is nice: really busy though. I went there at 8 and it was still packed. Because of how busy it was, the service was a bit slow. Wasn’t really a big deal because the waitress was very nice and attentive. I have 4 stars because the of the time I got my food. I think it took at least 30 – 40 minutes. Gnocchi was a bit of a miss for me. Not worth t for the price. Chicken parm? Definitely should try. Also amazing drinks.

Seriously amazing meal. On weeknights they have a prix fixe. $ 30 for 3 courses. Not gonna lie it was the best deal I have come across in a long time. Portions were big and food was top notch. The food was as good as any Italian I have had in years. First course Gnocchi with Mushrooms — I don’t like mushrooms but I love gnocchi. There wasn’t a mushroom or gnocchi left in my bowl. It was great Caesar salad — not just a salad. Everything was great and you could taste how fresh it was. Fried seafood — giant portion but the spicy aioli stole the dish. These are the little things that make Tazzina not your typical Italian place. He could have put red sauce on the plate and it would be a very good dish. The spicy Aioli made it amazing. Second Course — Linguine and Mussels — very good. Simple dish that was far from simple. Chicken dish — I tried a bite and my cousin loved it. Pan seared pork — amazing. The pork was perfect and the sauce was spicy deliciousness. Dessert — Nutella Lava Cake — 5⁄5 the cake was perfect and the gelato that come with it was a perfect complement to the warm lava. Panna Cotta — typically my favorite Italian dessert. It is simple and fresh. This was as good as any I have had. Can’t wait to come back.

Chef Jason keeps surprising me with his inventiveness and creativity. The ricotta ravioli cacio y pepe is fabulous, light and tasty, couldn’t get enough of it. Freshly made pasta, just wonderful, worth a trip just for that dish, tho everything I’ve sampled has been excellent. Looking forward to my next visit and trying something new. Caesar salad is consistently perfect in every way. No room for dessert tonight.

This place is a hidden gem. When I got there they were under staffed and the place was poppin. The bartender Nicole came from behind the bar to greet me. The owner competed on CHOPPED. That caught my attention right away. The bartender name was Nicole she also competed in battle of the bartenders. She was Great and her personality matched the drinks she made. I had the Sicilian Sunrise if you love tequila get this drink it was delicious. For me appetizer I had a beet salad which was delicious. My main course was the linguini frutti di mare which had mussels, clams, calamari, and shrimps in it. This came in a spicy tomatoe sauce. That was one if the best pasta dishes I had in years. If your in queens do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Never thought I’d ever find this awesome place! Tucked between all the other mediocre stores and restaurants along Metropolitan Avenue, I assure you that Tazzina is not your typical American/Italian restaurant found in Queens. The atmosphere and interior décor serve multi-purposes — whether it’s casual, comfy and cozy, or elegant and romantic, you won’t feel out of place or under/over dressed. The food here is definitely something to brag. The Herb Roasted Chicken«Under A Brick» is freakin’ good! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! I’d recommend Lobster alla Vodka for any pasta lovers who like spicy as well. Besides PT Restaurant in Williamsburg-Brooklyn that serves similar spicy pasta sauce, Tazzina is the only place where you’d get to taste this sauce. To wrap up the night with something sweet(besides your honey ;)), I’d go with Affogato and Panna Cotta. Plus, extra star for attentive/friendly service, and awesome music playlist!

This is an amazing place to eat at. The waitress that works there are amazing. They treat you with respect and you get a warmth feeling. The food is amazing. I’ve never tasted octopus and shrimp the way the seasoned it. It was probably the best appetizer I ever ate in my life. The entrée was amazing. A bit too oily for my partner. But overall the food was great. The dessert was amazing as well. We got the nutella lava cake and for someone who doesn’t eat dairy product much, this cake and ice cream was the bomb. The place was very clean as well. The ratings for: Food 8⁄10 Service 10⁄10 Cleanliness 10⁄10 I will definitely return to this place as it was a great experience. I never tasted any appetizers the way this place makes it and it can easily be one of the reasons you guys return as well.

This is a great spot along Metropolitan Ave. My best friend has been going to Tazzina ever since it was in Glendale. She highly recommended the restaurant and I can see why. I have been to this nice restaurant twice already and I love it. The first time it was a sit down dinner. My best friend made an rsvp and we were treated well. The staff was exceptionally friendly and knowledgable. I believe the restaurant had just opened and all were on their A game. I was impressed. We were greeted upon entering by Sandy. What a great guy and waiter. We waited a few for our table to be ready. The décor is very modern with an ode to classics. Very nice. Our waiter was great. Upon ordering, they brought us a plate of flatbread with a crushed olives spread. Omg deliciousness. We ordered for the appetizer the char grilled octupus. It was delectable. Immensely flavorful and tender. Did not know that octupus can be as great as that. Chef Jason Zukas set the bar high for the rest of the night. And did he deliver. Yes he did! We ordered drinks. We got the bamboo lounge and the sicilian sunrise. Awesome drinks. The sicilian sunrise became my best friends favorite. It was strong just the way she likes them. On the other hand my favorite was the bamboo lounge, sweet and strong. My best friend as per her usual ordered the braised short ribs with polenta and I ordered linguine neri with shrimp and calamari. It was delicious. Omg so good. We were very happy we came for the opening. Of course we ordered another round of drinks and unfortunately had no room for dessert. Ive heard the desserts are amazing. I believe it. Our experience was amazing. It was a pleasure to finally meet Chef Jason Zukas. It was a great beginning to a wonderful night. Now for last night my second time there, we ended the night at Tazzina, as per my suggestion. :) Great times. We wanted to try the watermelon sangria and what better night than ladies night at Tazzina. We tried to rush there since the restaurant would close in an hr. We made it. We were immediately greeted warmly by Chef Jason Zukas. It is always a pleasure. He is such a great and hard working guy, such a great chef. So we sat at the bar this time. We ordered the watermelon sangria and omg was it refreshing. I was enamored. I honestly believe it is the best sangria I have ever had. So fruity, strong yet light. If that can be said in one sentence. Ha. And it was Chef Jason’s own creation. Wow amazing. We had eaten a lil prior but we wanted to eat at Tazzina. We had room. So we ordered apps, the char grilled octupus and grandma’s meatballs. Within no time, the apps were served for us to enjoy pipping hot. That is great service. Omg the char grilled octupus was once again oh so tender deliciously flavorful and with the addition of the tomatoes was out of this world. Then we went for the grandma’s meatballs. It had a dolop of ricotta cheese and also 2 slices of bread. It was so melt in your mouth good and flavorful. The sauce was delicious and the ricotta added a great touch to the dish. Beauty is love and you can tell Chef Jason Zukas puts love into what he makes. The dishes are beautifully presented. You definitely have to try Tazzina. I highly recommend it. Its a must.

«Closed??? What do you mean closed???» Imagine my shocked face when my wife told me that our new spot Tazzina version 1.0 had closed. It must have been a mistake they were so good. Now imagine my relief that they were only moving. Cue Happy Dance. Then picture my elation that they had finally re-opened and in time for my wife and i to enjoy an anniversary dinner. I like Tazzina because it always made me feel like I was at home. They pictures hanging on the wall, the good music, the loud atmosphere(hey, we’re Italian and we’re super loud), the friendly service and most importantly the food is always amazing. Luckily this version of Tazzina is even better than the first. My one and only complaint is that I picked the night when the changed the menu so all my carefully planned meal choices were laid to waste. It’s really more for time conservation as i have been know to look at a menu forever. With the help of our waiter I was able to make a few choices quickly. One note about the bar, they have stepped up their game tremendously. I had one of the best Negroni’s I’ve ever had. The Knickerbocker wasn’t too shabby either We had the following: Baked Clams Oreganata: Simply divine. And the sauce/broth they were in was so good I would drink it with a straw. Broiled Octopus: Coked perfectly and had great flavor, I would have loved a little bigger portion. My wife had the Fluke Francese and it was amazing. Perfect;ly cooked and the sauce it was in was again straw worthy. I decided on the tripe. Before you judge you should have it. This was cooked exactly like grandma would have. Braised to an unbelievable tenderness and the bacon added a nice dimension of flavor to the dish. we finished our meal off with The Gelato trio that was 4 because we couldn’t decide and they were heavenly. I am glad that Tazzina is back and so glad that once again my wife and i were welcomed back to Chef Zukas’ home. Simply amazing meal and we can’t wait to come back again. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a great meal, made with care, do yourself a favor and come to Tazzina.

My brother and I took my Mother and Aunt for dinner on Mother’s Day, and Tazzina provided us with a great meal and a day that we will remember with happy memories. They had no problem in accommodating an additional guest in our party, and were very patient with us as we went back and forth with the menu, unsure of what to order as everything sounded terrific. Our waitress was a funny little thing who was very quirky and pleasant, and who obliged our repeated requests for picture taking until we got one we all liked. We all shared the octopus, grandma’s meatballs and one of the special appetizers of the day, the trout salad. While the meatballs were certainly the most abundant of the three appetizers, I have to say that the trout salad and the octopus were particularly excellent. The trout was topped with a breaded, poached egg that when cut open, served as a very rich and creamy dressing. Excellent! We all ordered different entrees and were able to do a bit of sampling between us. We ordered the branzino, the short ribs over polenta, zuppa di pesci and short rib gnocchi. Everything was great. I personally had the gnocchi and ordered it because I had heard that the chef was particularly skilled at making gnocchi. And he was: I enjoyed this version more than any previous time that I have ordered it. But, I also realized that I don’t think gnocchi is really for me. Had I had to do it over again, I think I would have ordered the lobster penne. But, that it a matter of personal preference and in no way reflects the quality of the dish. Unfortunately, we were too full to enjoy dessert but I hope to return soon.

Forgive me for saying I was not as blown away as everyone else. 1st, food was very good although under-seasoned, and aren’t we a bit cocky with no salt and pepper on the table? Out of a group of 7, we all needed a bit of salt which was not a big deal. 2nd, portions were kind of small. We’re a group of 7, we order 3 apps to share, meatball was great(don’t tell my mom), coldcut and cheese platter also great. Octopus also great BUT, ONEFUCKINGTENTICLE??? Are u serious? And God Forbid the waiter informed us this wasn’t enough for the table to share. We each got a 1″ piece… For $ 16? That aggravated me. 3rd, I’m not sure what’s up w this wait staff, they LOVE clearing the tables. Twice they snatched drinks which were not finished from my wife, once we caught them in time to stop them, the 2nd time we didn’t. They did it w dishes too. Our cold-cut and cheese app platter still had a few slices left, they just came and took it, didn’t ask if we wanted to finish… Just snatched it off the table. Summary… Food was fixed a a little salt. Portions are a bit stingy. Keep an eye on your glasses and dishes or they may be snatched from your grips. Despite my complaints I still think Tazzina should be given a shot. Overall it was an enjoyable evening.

For our friend’s birthday(Happy Birthday Nako!!) we decided to celebrate it in Queens and have dinner at Tazzina– an Italian American fusion restaurant located in the Forest Hill area. Parking: There are plenty of street parking around the area, and there is also valet parking available from Thursday to Sunday. but if you are planning to get here by public transportation, then you might run into some problem if you don’t want to take the bus(Q54). The closest Train/Subway station is the Forest Hill station and it is some distant away from the restaurant(16+ blocks) Seating: A nice medium size restaurant(around 35 – 40 seats) that has a very romantic yet cozy vibe to it. Candle light lite dining area with dim lighting makes everything feel so warm and comfortable. We came into the restaurant at around 8:30pm on a Friday night and the place was full(luckily reservation was made in advance). We were brought to our table without too much of a wait. Our waiter was professional and very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us some good recommendations. At the end, we decided to go start with the Zuppa de Mussels and the Char Grilled Octopus. and for our main course, we went for the following: Zuppa Di Pesci– Clams, mussels, shrimp, calamari, sea bass, tomato broth, garlic bread($ 30) Veal Chop«Tutto Bene” — Pounded breaded bone-in Veal chop, arugula, red onion, tomato($ 40) Lobster Alla Vodka– Penne, maine lobster, vodka, chili, cream($ 32) Spaghetti & Meatballs– fresh chitarra pasta, san marzano tomatoes, basil, ricotta salata($ 20) Gnocchi Napolitano– baked gnocchi, tomato, ricotta, mozzarella, basil($ 19) Chicken Parmigiana– Panko parmigano crust, mozzarella, aged provolone, arrabblata sauce.($ 20) Every dish tasted great but we especially enjoy: Char Grilled Octopus– I would never think octopus can taste this soft and flavorful but they can in Tazzina, wonderful flavorful and texture, the grill add so much flavor and depth to soft slimy octopus. MUSTTRY! Zuppa Di Pesci– they basically bring the ocean to you in this dish, seafood so fresh and refreshing along with a very clean tomato broth all cooked to perfection. put some fish, clams and shrimp onto the garlic bread and top it off with a bit of the tomato broth and you got yourself a perfect bite! MUSTTRY! Lobster Alla Vodka– It’s a little sad that I’m lactose or else I’ll be licking the plate clean. What’s not to love about this dish? Penne, lobster and vodka, yes please! For dessert– we had to try the most recommended Coffee and Donuts and the Nutella Lava Cake. Both are great but if I have to choose one, I’ll go with the Coffee and Donuts– something so simple but yet it work so well, the donut is filled with cannoli cream and the whole thing is fried, you get this donut that’s extra crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the cannoli cream awaiting to be release. Take a bite with that espresso gelato and you’ll understand why this is a favorite among customers. The dessert actually took a little longer than we anticipated but while waiting, our waiter came over and gave us some complimentary house made limoncello and it was delicious, what great gesture and service from the restaurant! Price: it’s expensive but not unreasonably so, you pay for fresh and well prepared dishes so to me it’s definitely worth the price. Overall: My friends and I all had a great time at Tazzina, the restaurant had great ambiance, service is on point, food just delicious! I look forward to visiting Tazzina again to try out their short ribs that’s been recommended by so many as well as getting a picture taken with chef Jason!
