JAX Tavern

Always good food, cold beer and great prices. Jax has only been open a year and while a little inconsistent at first, their wings and burgers are fantastic. BBQ is good and beer prices are the best in the city, especiallly if you enjoy craft beer. They have all the locals… Braxton, rhinegeist, etc. But like most places anymore, they have great servers and some that are less than engaging. that is becoming the world we live in. Most of the less desierable Unilocal reviews appear to be service related, maybe I’m more forgiving having worked in the business. I know the GM Bill and understand its tough to staff a newer restaurant with the best servers who are going to otr, banks, liberty and other busier areas. But have never had a bad meal at jax and kids love it too. Easy to get to right off 275 but you won’t stumble upon it. not the closest place I could go to in fact and pass a lot of sports bars, but worth the drive for me. Love the beautiful granite top bar and relaxing patio. Saw blessid union of souls there several months ago and they are coming back next week. They were incredible. One of the cleanest restaurants I’ve ever been in with quite comfortable and diverse crowds. If you live in tri county or even if you don’t, give it a try.

So this use to be BW3. This is my first visit to Jax Tavern. The restaurant was recently remodeled and now has a stage where live bands perform. They had a nice list of musician who will have upcoming performances there.
We ordered drinks from the bar. They wet not strong at all. It took a significant amount of time before we were acknowledged or brought menus. The food order was also slow in coming. The food was brought out for one person. The waffle fries were not hot at all. The second order came 15? minutes later for the second person. The wings were spicy garlic. They were salty garlic without much spice. The chicken quesadillas were very good. I will try it again maybe they were having a bad night. I will try something else off the menu. Overall the restaurant seems to have a steady crowd of business as I pass by he location frequently.

OMG. What an experience. Never again, I promise. I come in and order wings right after another guy at the bar and a short time later another guy ordered at the bar. Both got there food but none for me. I asked the lady that was helping out the main bar tender Rick. She checked and no food available. I am so done with this place. Wings are great, service absolutely sux. I ended up leaving with no food. I always thought I was a nice guy, I think I have been treated like crap several times at this place. Can’t go back, regardless how much I like there wings.
Wow. How do they stay in business.

You can tell these guys are trying. I was here a few months ago and they are definitely getting better. Decent food. nice atmosphere. And GREAT service. The manager himself tool great care of us I will be back.

Best Dirty Martini I’ve had in awhile. It seems as though most places don’t know the formula but Jax has it down. I’ve had 1 the last 2 times I’ve come here & I haven’t been disappointed once. I ordered a side salad w balsamic vinaigrette & Hot Traditional Jumbo Smoked wings & let me just say — this is my new favorite wing spot. You won’t be disappointed with the scraps or mini wings that chain wing spots dole out on Tuesday’s. Jada was my server today & even though she’s soft spoken (I appreciate that) she’s very attentive. I’m pleasantly surprised with how this old Bw’s (constant disappointment) has been transformed into such a fine establishment.

Jax Tavern is located right across from Starbucks on Smiley Avenue. It takes up the space previously used by BW3’s. I came in with my boyfriend yesterday when they opened at 11. The server was very nice! And our food came out quickly. My reasoning for giving Jax only three stars is the food itself. I got six boneless Hot Honey BBQ wings, six boneless Teriyaki wings, and a plate of waffle cheese fries. While the sauces on the chicken were good, the chicken itself was disappointing. Very dry. And the waffle fries tasted okay, but there was only cheese on a couple fries. It reminded me of the frozen wings and fries my mom heated up for me when I was a kid.
All in all, Jax seems like it has the potential to be a good restaurant. They have many wide screen TVs and a large bar. But they are a restaurant, not just a sports bar, and their food needs some improvement. I feel like this is a good place for families with young kids.

I honestly wanted to rate Jax 2 stars, but the staff was so nice, that earned them an extra star.
I debated between the wings and the burger. I originally went in for a burger, but I just can’t pass up a good order of wings. I had to try them! I ordered the 10 piece buffalo/​medium.
Pros — I love that they include celery and bleu cheese. When wings were becoming popular, almost every restaurant included this automatically. Now they offer it as a way to tack a couple more bucks to the bill. Not this place. They’re included!
Meaty! Boy, their wings do not disappoint if you want some with good meat on those bones! They were cooked thoroughly. Possibly too thoroughly. More on that later.
Service — The staff were all very nice, which is certainly enough to make me come back to try something else. Everything was very timely. Not too fast, and definitely not too slow.
Cons — The wings seemed a little burnt, and when I saw a couple more wings with some blackness on them, I became unsure if they were burnt or if that was seasoning stuck to the wing. For me, these were way over seasoned. I’ve had a lot of wings over the years, and I’ve never had anything as salty or salt/​peppery as these. This may have been the first time I did not completely polish off a batch of wings. They were just too overpowering.
The waffle fries were also seasoned, but that was counter productive. The fries should just be very lightly salted, so they offer a nice contrast to the wing. Buffalouies back in B-​town has this down to an art. The fries and wings complement each other perfectly.
If I go back, I hope the burger rocks, because I am not jumping into another batch of those wings.

Expected this place to disappoint but it did not. Mainly because I am used to going to the old BDUBS that used to be in the building. They turned it around.
Looks great, stage inside for bands to play, even had trivia the night I went! Super great drinks specials, a spot for any good televised sporting event. The menu selection was your basic bar food, but better. Service was great as well!

We wanted to give this local spot a chance– we will be returning to Buffalo Joe’s. The service was AWFUL even though the place was dead. We ordered shrimp and the server waited until she served the food to tell us they were out of cocktail sauce. Food was mediocre at best.

Didn’t take long for this place to fall apart. Place was ~20% full and I was told a table would be a 20 minute wait. Bar was open seating. Plenty of seats at the bar, so I sat there. 3 bartenders walked passed me no less than 15 times over 15 minutes. No one said a word to me, nor would make eye contact. When I asked for help I was told the were short staffed. No attempt to help me in anyway. No one seemed to care that I walked out.

Stop by for lunch after having written off the former BW3 that was here before. $.69 wings on Tuesday (10 min) were very tasty and heavily sauced. Typical bar food, friendly and attentive service. Work down the street and will stop by again to try something else.

While it is nice to see another lunch options for this Forest Park/​Winton Woods area… I really wish we would get a lot more healthier options! Café troubador is the only healthy place in vicinity. But back to Jaxx,
Jaxx is another addition to all the other non-​healthy options. Been here twice, both due to office group lunch that had to be quick. The food is average to low quality bar food. Hence the ²⁄₅ rating. The service is good. The place inside is ok and very open. Could be a good sports bar if it had better food. And it seems like the nice staff is trying to get it going. Several items just seem frozen. Not for me… But best of luck to them and hopefully do better.

Jax is located where a bw3’s use to be in forest park. We decided to go on a Saturday night. The place is nice looking décor on the inside. Flat screens and a gas fireplace. Nice tables. There was maybe 8 tables filled in the place so only about a quarter full. The menu is pretty close to what you would get at bw3s. We had our 5 year old and 10 month old with us. There only seemed to be one waitress. She was a nice young girl running around from table to table. It took a while to order and to get our appetizer. We tried the pickle chips. I thought they were really good. Piping hot. Had to wait for them to cool. But seemed like we should of had twice the amount for the price. My burger was pretty good. I was starving. My 5 year old had boneless chicken fingers. And waffle frys. They were average. I’m not sure why this place was so empty. Another waitress showed up closer to 7. There was not to many more people coming in. I’m not sure this place is going to make it unless they advertise. Pretty sad it could be a nice place to go to. Maybe it gets more people when there is a big sporting event.

Their wings are outstanding, their service is prompt and professional. Overall appearance is excellent and clean. I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone. I will definitely return.

Food here is mediocre at best. Staff is clueless and never seem to know what’s happening. Extra long wait for room temperature wings? Drinks are overpriced and lackluster. Went on a Sunday to watch the football game and they only had 2 of the games on all 16 tvs. A total of 6 occupied tables and 2 booths occupied on a football Sunday! That should have told me everything I needed to know. Asked if they could change 1 TV to the Eagles game and was told they couldn’t. Won’t be back!

This place was just OK. The food could have been better, could have been worse. The same goes for the décor.
When I walked in I asked for a beer list and I was told «Our manager doesn’t like to give this out because it’s old.» REALLY? How lazy is that? It would probably take them about 5 minutes to make a new one.
Like I said. okay place. Not great. but what are you going to do for Forest Park.

This place is just a place to get bar food, and not even good bar food. The happy hour prices on beers are good if you’re going there to drink. But if you’re going there to eat find another place.
My wife got the cod sandwich and the cod was a pressed piece of fish that looked like it came out of a machine. I had the chicken wrap and all of the chicken was at one end, and the first half of the sandwich was all lettuce and cheese. Our friends had the Reuben sandwich, and the pulled pork sandwich, and both of them were unremarkable.
It was a Friday night at around 6:30, and the place was only about one-​fourth full. If you want to go there, I suggest you go soon.

We have been to this restaurant twice and really like it. Beer is on happy hour in the food is really good and pretty cost-​effective. Definitely will go there again

Could be great. Management seems to be the problem.
Food and drinks come out a little slow and sporadic.
Pretzels great.
Burgers and wings very good.
Flatbread was great.
Beef nachos poor. No seasoning on the meat.
Servers are very friendly.

The burger was dry and had zero flavor
The wings were bland. The bbq sauce wings were decent, but nothing to write home about. The hot sauce wings had no real flavor and were pretty awful. The waffle fries? Did I mention it looks nice inside? The waffle fries were terrible. I wouldn’t recommend, nor will I be back. 1 star and 2 thumbs down. By the way my bill was 20 bucks for that garbage.
