Most students at Fort Gordon get a chance to go here. I wanted to go so badly, but unfortunately it wasn’t in my curriculum. Hence, it took me four full months to coordinate my schedule with their hours(Tu-F 0800 – 1600). Luckily, I worked it out… and indeed, it was worth it. Much of this museum is very dated. I’ve been to newer military museums like the National Infantry Museum at Fort Benning and the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico, and this just wasn’t in the same category. That being said, Signal has been around forever… afterall it was the start of what is now the Air Force’s weather monitoring system, and everything that is military aviation(not that I’m bragging…), so it’s kinda understandable that the museum has been around for a while too. I spoke with the curator during my visit, and he is doing a decent job updating it. Also, a gentleman gives a fabulous and entertaining history of Signal to the Soldiers who come in for a tour and interjects references to particular things that are on display at the museum. No doubt, his engaging talk is what allows the students to take more away from the displays. If you’re on post, definitely worth a gander. If you have any Signal pride, you can’t miss it.
