My boyfriend and I are on vacation from Illinois and we are huge sushi fans and this place was a complete let down. The staff was friendly but the food was below par. They do however have large portions which is a plus but the quality is not good. We did get shrimp fried rice which was average but pretty expensive, $ 18, and it didn’t come with that much. It did come with miso soup which was actually very good. The place is also very small and cramped. Overall we were really disappointed.

Sushi rock, a Ft Lauderdale classic for decades now. I used to eat here with friends often while living nearby and we still try to stop by when in town. Highly recommended. Just as good now as it was in the 90s.

Decent ambiance, average quality sushi, and highly overpriced. One roll and 15 pieces of tuna/salmon sashimi was $ 60. Location is so close I want to love it but i’m just not impressed.

Mediocre sushi. The rolls were actually pretty bad for sushi standards. The service is decent. Lighting in the restaurant is weird. dark with black lights. Overall I would not recommend this place for sushi unless one is desperate for sushi. The yakisoba also tasted kind of bad and salty with dry chicken. The Michael Jackson roll was the only food that was at acceptable standards. I would not recommend the south beach roll(fishy tasting) or the dynamite(bland). Don’t get me wrong about fishy taste, I love fish and sashimi is among my favorite foods. It’s a bad type of fishy. Disappointed in the food here with average service.

Service was okay on a fairly busy Friday night. The inside isn’t incredible but that’s not what’s important here. The Food was brilliant though! Had the red hot chili pepper roll, wallflower and they were lovely. Would definitely go back for more and make this place on las olas our local sushi bar.

Amazing place for sushi lovers! The service is really quick and perfect. We tried Magic Dragon roll and Sashimi dinner and they were both excellent. The presentation was really nice.

Their cucumber rolls are very light and refreshing and I also recommend getting hand rolls to try! Also, the mackerel is very good.

Food was extremely tasty! Poor BJ, our server, was running from table to table! He was attentive and very cordial! Highly recommend this place!

This place is not a particularly good date place cause the layout of the restaurant is a bit awkward and it’s very tiny. There’s small tables around a central sushi bar high top seating area. It gets a bit noisy from the music and people talking so you’ll have to shout a bit to carry a conversation. But they have some very unique rolls so it’s worth a try. We started with the Moonshine coconut lemongrass sake which is sweet and milky. Very good flavor. Then moved to a Sunomono appetizer. The octopus was fresh and the sauce was tangy and refreshing. Then the Gyoza was well fried and the filling was better than usual. I had the Strawberry Fields Forever Roll which had thin slices of strawberry on top and inside was eel, avocado, green apple. It was definitely interesting. I love eel and I don’t mind sweet tasting sushi rolls so I loved it. My friend had the Mack Daddy Cucumber rap, 3 fish inside with avo and asparagus. It was refreshing and a good healthy option.

I was rather underwhelmed by the sushi here. They have a large selection of rolls, sashimi and cones but I was disappointed to find out they don’t have Tamari(gluten free soy sauce), it’s a staple in the sushi restaurants back home so I guess I’m spoiled! My friend and I shared a roll that flavor wise was great but the fish was warm which make me really uneasy about eating it. Room temp raw fish just isn’t a good thing in my book. I’m not sure if this is customary or just a fluke but it was a turn off for me for sure. Our server, who never shared her name www nice but it took about 15 mins to get our check which was annoying since we had metered parking about to expire.

Oh little sushi rock I love you so. I lived in lauderdale most of my life and I have been a fan of this little las olas place for years. When visiting recently I was excited to be in the area and go again. Did I mention it’s a little place? It is… But always packed, so you know it’s good. We got a table late on a Sunday night after a short wait. Staff is very nice and helpful and always seem to manage multiple tables and a lot of action gracefully. There are lots of vegetarian options which is one of the things I love about it. Also all menu items are named after rock bands or singers. it’s just fun. The food is great and fresh, the prices are very fair. I went with the slim shady, avocado salad(omg so much avocado– share This with someone!) and shared my date’s very delicious pad Thai(sushi rock’s take on it anyway) —also delicious! It’s at the east end of the las olas strip so after dinner we had a great walk up and to the other end and back.

Nice little sushi restaurant with good menu of standard rolls and their special rolls. Overall good sushi at decent prices. Interior a little dark, with a rock theme. As out of town visitors the reviews were on point which helped. Service was ok, nothing to brag about. Just good sushi.

I started off with a salad which was good… dressing was very fresh. My father had the lobster tail roll, which I tried and it was really good, but WAY over priced for a roll. I had just a spicy tuna roll tempura style. I have had this roll many times before and the tuna in the center never gets fully cooked when doing it tempura style, but when my roll came it looked like tuna fish from a can. It was also not spicy at all. The service was good though as my drink was always full.

Usually when a sushi menu says a roll is spicy, you can barely taste the spice(think Spicy tuna roll), but not the Feelin’ Hot Roll. That roll is seriously spicy. Like that hold water in your mouth for a few minutes spicy. I warned you! Even so, it was really tasty, as were the Lady Fingers(tuna entrée) we got. I live the vibe here because it’s high energy, with great music and lots of people having a great time, as compared to a lot of sushi bars that are more traditional. I think the prices are pretty standard for sushi in Florida, both food and drinks. When having a sushi craving in South Florida, definitely check out Sushi Rock Café!

This little place packs a big sushi punch! When my girlfriends and I arrived in Fort Lauderdale, hungry and ready for some fresh sushi in Las Olas, Sushi Rock seemed to be a great choice. Inside, Sushi Rock isn’t much to look at. Regardless, the diverse menu and creative rolls certainly make up for it. My friend and I shared three rolls(one cucumber rap, two showcase rolls)… Fabulous: Crab, avocado, orange caviar, and sesame in rice vinegar with a drizzling of sweet miso sauce. –We ordered up this rap without the orange caviar(I’m not a fan of fish eggs in general). This roll was super bright, really flavorful but still extra light. Red Hot Chili Peppers: Spicy tuna with jalapeño, scallions, & tempura crunchies i/o topped with even more tuna. —Spicy but not overly molten. This role had just enough heat to keep things interesting. Extra ups for the sushi chef for not overloading the role with crunchies! Blondie: Spicy kimchee yellowtail with jalapeño, scallions, & avocado i/o rolled in yellow tempura crunchies. —This was my least favorite out of the three but it was still solid. The kimchee could have used a little more kick, in my opinion, and the texture was pretty soft overall. Sushi Rock pretty much rocks, so if you’re in the mood for a few great maki rolls, definitely drop by!

They get minus a star for the wait(no reservations allowed) but other than that, this place is top notch for me. I love the atmosphere. It is a very small, loud place that plays late 90s alternative and pop music(I’m a late 80s baby so I grew up listening this to music). It is a fun place to go with friends to enjoy GREAT sushi and have some fun hanging out. They serve everything from small and simple rolls to large and very creative rolls. I always order the Blondie — its hands down my favorite roll. They also offer large boats for groups which is great if your rolling several people deep. The sushi is fresh and delicious every time. The service here has always been great for me, the staff is always moving very quickly and are super attentive. I like to think I am a pro with chopsticks but truth is I like to drop them — A LOT. And there is always a replacement pair in my hands within seconds. Depending on how hungry you are this place can get a bit pricey, just like every other sushi place in town, but its well worth it for the food and experience.

My husband Ed and I decided it was a sushi night, so we headed over as quickly as possible to beat the evening rush.(This is not our first visit to this restaurant, however it is my first review for Sushi Rock.) We arrived around 7pm and were able to land a seat at the sushi bar, which is actually our seat of choice at this particular restaurant. Shortly thereafter the entire restaurant filled up with an overflow waiting line outside. At this time of the evening on a Friday night, the crowd is mainly 20 – 30 somethings on their first stop out for the evening. Spring break is also in full force, so it was SRO for this tiny place. Ed had the Red Hot Chili Pepper roll and Ikura, and a house salad and Blonde roll for myself(see pics). For the both of us, dinner was great across the board. The presentation wonderful, and the fish tasted very fresh. The service was also just right. Overall this is a terrific neighborhood sushi place and our preferred sushi house in all of Fort Lauderdale. We can always rely on the sushi being fresh, and the food preparation and taste being consistently good. The restaurant holds up to its name with rock music playing in the background. There is limited pay buy phone parking in a lot around the corner on 15th, with minimal street parking.

Poor service. I really wanted to love this place and I plan to give it another chance based on all of the great reviews, but I had poor service, my cucumber salad was basically cucumber and vinegar and my sushi rock roll had such big pieces I was more concerned with being able to chew it than taste it. It took about 5 minutes to be greeted, and this is after intentionally making eye contact with the server multiple times. She took my drink order and then forgot about it until I stopped her and asked if I could order. She never checked on me and I soon after asked for my tab. Again, the sushi rock roll had massive pieces which were difficult to eat. The fish was extremely fresh and the asparagus added a nice crunch, but it was more work to eat it than it was enjoyable. I ended up just eating the insides and not the rice just so I could get it down. Thanks to Unilocal I’ll be back based on reviews, but if it wasn’t for Unilocal I wouldn’t be.

On the busy, «I’m-rich-and-need-attention, so look-at-my-car-as-I-drive-like-an-a-hole» part of Las Olas Blvd, nestled next to a tattoo parlor, is a tiny, super crowded, delicious sushi restaurant. There are very few parking options nearby, paid or otherwise. You may be thinking, «It was probably a Friday or Saturday night.» Nope! This was on a Monday at 6:30pm! PS– You won’t be seated until your entire party arrives, and you’ll be asked to wait outside in the wind and aroma of urine-soaked vagrants, no matter how averse you are to horrific smells and no matter how long you spent coiffing your hair into a perfect ‘do. There is just no spare space inside to wait for a table. I definitely recommend calling ahead or getting a reservation. Once all qualifications are met, and a table frees up, you will be seated by a very nice, working-like-mad waitress who needs to be cloned. I think there were only two or three waitresses who were serving the entire restaurant(not counting the bar); they were HUSTLING! I was a little surprised that we weren’t offered edamame as we sat down, but no biggie. Rock music playing, energy high, cramped seating — you have about two seconds to order if the waitress stops at your table, or else you’ve missed your window and she has to be on her way to the next table. Either be prepared with your order before you sit down, or understand that it may take awhile to place your order if you sit there with your menu open, undecided. The overall energy and atmosphere felt rushed, but they never deliberately rushed us through our meal. Side note: I was impressed that the menus were well-organized, clean(none of the usual brown, crinkled, soy sauce-laden paper), and they were easy to read. I immediately ordered seaweed salad, which didn’t disappoint — they even had a spicy option! Nice touch! After being informed that«crab» on the menu was actually«Krab»(aka«pressed monk fish and mystery seafood made to look like crab») and that«snow crab» on the menu was REAL Crab, I decided to upgrade the Krab(crab) in my order to Crab… I did it more to avoid processed fish than I did for the actual flavor, but I’m still not sure it was worth an extra $ 4 per $ 12 roll(33% price increase). For my «entrée,» I ordered a few of their Cucumber«Raps,» — rolls named after a singer or band(cute!) — which consisted of sushi elements wrapped in cucumber skins instead of rice: This is my favorite type of roll! It tastes delicious and feels healthy. I opted for the«Fugee» and the«Redman.»(You see what they did there?) One(I don’t remember which) was like a philly roll with crab, sans rice; and the other had masago, tuna and avocado. I enjoyed the philly-style roll more than the other. Both were made with high quality, sushi-grade fish that melted in my mouth like butter. Alternating consumption of each was like a salmon, tuna, avocado and crab symphony; conducted by the crunch of fresh cucumber; harmonizing with a pleasant«pop» from orange masago and a crescendo of ponzu. My taste buds were singing. It appeared they had a plethora of wine, beer and sake, but alas I did not partake in libations this evening. This is also the first sushi restaurant I’ve been to where they offered a choice of desserts after our rolls were devoured. I wanted to see their offerings, but I’m trying to abstain from dessert right now. It would’ve been like putting an alcoholic in a bar and asking her to «just sniff» all the liquor. Not awesome. At the end of the day, I’d definitely go back to satisfy a sushi craving! Next time, I will make a reservation and take a cab. Sushi Rock gets two fins up and one crab leg down.
