Good, solid ramen! Humongous portions of ramen! The chicken katsu is really nice also. Good tasting food + good service = I will visit again!

Certainly won’t disappoint! Great service, small regular affordable type of Ramen restaurant. HUGE portions but pork belly is not that crunchy fatty pork belly we love(like at Menya Sandaime) and noodles don’t seem to be made in house but I could be wrong. I do like that you can pack your left overs togo and everything is very flavorful and thought out. Very delightful staff. TIP: Cash only, with no ATM– very inconvenient if you come unprepared.

Good solid ramen. Nice noodles, thick and smooth broth. Was not a fan of their bamboo shots but other than that very good. Good pork katsu curry. Great small place when you don’t want to leave town.

The Story: From time to time my brother would crave ramen. This is his favorite ramen joint and i personally enjoy it because it is not as packed as the other ones. Food: I always opt for the Shoyu Ramen. They have weeknight specials and their bowls are huge! A large bowl is enough for me to hate myself for filling up my tummy too much. Price: Ramen is pretty average price. I would go on a weekday to get more bang for your buck. Décor: Seats about 25 – 30 people. Small place with homey décor. They also have a manga section. Service: Quick and prompt. No Complaints there. Parking & Finding the Place: You can park in the municipal lot and walk here. Sunday parking is free. If not, they have an app for parking in this town =) Additional Thoughts: Cash Only!

I thought it was good, although I’m not much of a ramen expert. I did find the broth to be overly salty, it left me PARCHED.

I just recently decided to start Unilocaling again so I don’t recall my first time here, but I enjoy this inexpensive ramen house especially during cold seasons.(Make sure you bring some cash as they only take Cash. Like really?) My favorite so far has been Champon with Curry over rice combination. A portion is just. a bit too much for me to finish them all. I do eat a lot and for me to say the portion is huge. trust me– you will be full if you pick this combination. All in all, a decent ramen spot. I do not wish to give 3 stars, as it deserves rather 3.5. But if I could not give it 4 so I am only giving 3.

This place is the bomb. I like it way more than Menya Sandaime to be honest. Their ramen is not only flavorful– but plentiful! Ha! Their curry though– wow it is to die for. It is as good as the super tasty curry at Mitsuwa. Their appetizers are great aswell, the sausages and grilled squid are my favorites. The service is friendly and fast. CASHONLY!

Had the batten ramen — very flavorful broth. Decent amount of noodles and good amount of pork(lean also). It might be nice to have corn & fish cake included in this option as well. Also had the gyozas(good for an app) and a taste of the katsu curry(crispy and tender cutlet; good). This might be my fav ramen place so far in NJ. Cash only and although there is a ginormous muni lot in the back, during peak meal times, parking can be a harrowing experience. Will return.

I had the miso ramen. Ok, like I said in my previous review I sort of like the miso ramen here. It was like what I’ve had before, I sort of like it. Soup is miso, noodle not bad, chashu wasn’t good. This is an average ramen, average ramen shop. But I still come come back once in a while. There’s something about this average ramen, nothing special, but I come back. This may be the king of nothing special average ramen.

I was disappointed this afternoon. I always enjoy this place, but today I cannot believe. We waited for a half hour for our food and they told us they forgot our order. We waited another 20 minutes and food finally came out. But this time for 2 orders of miso ramen. One came out with pork meat, but not another one. We did not complain, but disappointed. I don’t know what they are thinking. Maybe this is where good place become disappointment.

The Ramen was incredibly HUGE. I love that they really fill up the broth. It’s not ALL noodles either, they use lots of veggies and meat to keep each bite brothy yet fulfilling. The staff was very friendly and answered our questions well to how spicy their«spicy» dishes were going to be. I’d enjoyed this spot as it also has a nice atmosphere and you’re not crammed, like other spots locally where your dinner comes with a side of hearing other customers slurp up their food. So far I think this is my favorite local Ramen spot. I’m not a Ramen expert, yet, so I can’t tell you if it was out-of-this world from an expert perspective, but hey; I’d say these noodle bowls were pretty banging!

This is my second time here and got the Batten Ramen with fried rice combination for $ 13. The broth was saltier than I remembered. A little too salty and couldn’t finish my food even though I was ravenous. However, my coworker said the spicy seafood ramen was excellent! Space is small so wouldn’t recommend coming with a big group. Cash Only! Also it’s been a year since I’ve been here and the kitchen staff is all non-Japanese except cashier… Maybe it’s loosing a little bit of authenticity.

The place is called Batten Ramen so you would think most people go here for the ramen, but their ramen is pretty average. Honestly, if there’s anything you should come here for, it would be the curry! Shared katsu curry and grilled squid. The sweet soy sauce that comes with the grilled squid is so good… and the squid is perfectly cooked and lightly charred so you get that nice smoky grilled taste. Katsu curry doesn’t look mouth-wateringly delicious, but you’re in for a pleasant surprise. Portions are also pretty big and you’ll leave stuffed like a thanksgiving turkey. Service is also just OK, but I mean once you’re seated, look around. You’re not at a 5-star restaurant. It’s a hole-in-the-wall with young staff. They’re not really trying to win you through their service. If you want great ramen, I’d still say Menya Sandaime has the best in the area. If you do make a pit-stop here for food though, I would highly recommend trying the curry.

Batten is an average ramen place in fort lee. You don’t come here for the ramen, you come here for the japanese comic books(manga) and the glorious curry. Their ramen is fairly lack luster, noodles are decent but the broth is lacking in flavor and leaves much to be desired. The chashu is over cooked and way too chewy for the most part. The only good thing about batten in terms of food is the curry. They might as well just change their name to Batten Curry and serve ramen on the side optionally. It is hard to get ramen right. However, with options like Menya couple of blocks away, it’s hard to justify eating ramen at Batten. Good curry, interesting interior, subpar ramen.

I can’t finish a regular ramen portion here — which is crazy! But it’s seriously huge. I really like the Batten Ramen best. Also a sucker for the salmon rice ball as it is just the right amount of salty for me. I have tried(and not cared for) the miso ramen as it is a LOT of miso flavor and I just cannot handle so much of it. Curry is good too. Considering I cannot finish even the ramen, it’d be silly for me to order curry with my ramen — but darn it’s really cheap here so I can easily rationalize it. The biggest drawback for me here is that the service experience is hit/miss. On our last visit, we were seated in the back(past the bar, by the door) and it took us 5 minutes to find someone to ask for our check. That type of service drives me nuts in the worst way possible. The servers are exceptionally nice, however, and they do deliver the food promptly. Still, I fully consider Batten Ramen a great alternative to Santouka Ramen. They are by far the 2 best ramen places in northern NJ and the parking situation at Batten is MUCH more pleasant than the battle royale that is the mitsuwa parking lot.

I LOVETHISPLACE. IT’s DELICIOUS. It was so good. I had an excellent experience here! But why not a 5? 1) It’s Cash Only and 2) you have to pay for parking in the lot(meh. I am from Northern Virginia!) Anyways, let’s continue. Batten Ramen has this ‘lunch special’ thing going on from Monday-Friday. We went on FRIDAY and had their ‘Katsu Curry + Miso Ramen Combo’… We ordered — * Fried Chicken(appetizer) — this was so good. the chicken was just melted in my mouth. they said it was one of their popular side dishes/appetizers so gave it a try, so good! * Katsu Curry+ Miso Ramen — the lunch special was actually for ‘Katsu Curry and Batten Ramen but I switched it out for Miso Ramen. ANDITWASBOMBDOTCOM. The Katsu Curry was SOGOOD. The crispy katsu and the thick curry combo was just perfect. *Jjamppong Ramen — I was kinda of skeptical about this one. Because being Korean, I had a lot of jjamppong and I didn’t think it would be that good but I was just like ‘whatever, I want spicy’ …uhm, I think one of the best items on their menu! so good! And guys, their portions are HUGE. So generous!!! I love it(because I eat alot!) GIVEIT A TRY :)

Not bad. More of a 3.5 star for food but I’ll round up because service was great and the inexplicable wall of manga tickled me. The thing that stands out here is the ramen portions here are massive. I was mislead by the pictures which made the bowls out to be pretty shallow. Yeah wrong, I could have stuck half my arm down those bowls. My boyfriend got the spicy champon which was 50% cabbage and could have fed both of us, but I was stuck with my own slightly less intimidating bowl of miso ramen. The broths here are milder in flavor and cleaner tasting than the ramen from Santouka over at Mitsuwa, which is nice if you want something lighter. I appreciated the thick wavy noodles. Chashu was a little tough. I also got a Katsu curry which was decent but overly sweet, I definitely tasted big hits of honey in there. So the food is pretty good, and I’d come back if I’m in the area. Menya Sandaime has my vote for best ramen in NJ though. Tips: Cash only. $ 2 off Monday’s. Come with another person to share. Come alone and read some manga if you don’t want to look lonely.

Even though it is a Ramen place, I love their Katsu curry. The Ramen is good, seems pretty fresh and authentic and for the price it is definitely worth it, but their curry is sort of the best in the area. The place is small and only accepts cash, but so does Mitsuwa. If you’re in the mood and want some good Ramen and curry then this is the place to go. I got the Shoyu Ramen and my husband got the Seafood Champong with the side of curry and the curry definitely overpowered both Ramens. But if you are deciding between the Shoyu Ramen and the Seafood Champong I would definitely choose the shoyu, because it has bolder and deeper broth flavors than the seafood champong. Overall, it is a quick and good place to go for lunch(if you have cash).
