My family of five traveled there this past week and despite the fact that our food didn’t arrive for approximately one hour, the shrimp n grits were very tasteful. The place had a very local Vibe feel to it. However, my wife and crab legs and they didn’t seem that this place really knew how to cook them. It seems like it’s a popular place where a lot of locals hang out. If you’re sitting outside, don’t expect to be served in a timely manner.

Strip mall location with the typical tired signs in windows, pseudo-beach environment with asphalt instead of water surrounding it and the usual shorts-clad waitstaff scurrying about hoping to appear«beachy,» it seemed more than a little contrived. There is a nice seafood selection on the menu with shrimp the centerpiece. But, our food for four came out separated in time with the last person having only the shrimp of a shrimp and scallop combo platter because«we didn’t want you to wait!» We sent it back anyway because the shrimp was not cooked and the beans and rice were cold. It was one of those places where they probably do not know how to do it right so why bother getting excited. Nonetheless, two of our companions were pleased with their food-but I consider them easy graders. Chalk this one up to experience and I explain it with the hypothesis that this is the dream of some would-be restauranteur starting a nautical life after relocating from Kansas, Kazahkstan or some such land-locked place.

Great fresh seafood! We have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. We have had the gumbo, the Po Boy, the bacon wrapped shrimp, as well as the shrimp and grits… all have been DELICIOUS! Their pies are also very tasty. We truly enjoy this place and can’t wait to be back!

If you are looking for good down home southern food then this place will not disappoint. Do not be fooled by the droopy strip mall this gem of a restaurant is located in. Do have the gumbo and the fresh shrimp and andoulie sausage over cheesy grits. My buddy had the gator bites and said they were best ever.

Unilocal helped us find this place, and the guidance was sound. Young, friendly and energetic service. BBQ shrimp and shrimp PO Boy were both excellent. Guess I’ll have to come back to try the chowder. Too many good choices on the menu.

Great food! We had corn chowder which was awesome and the butterfly shrimp. Best fried shrimp ever! Both were fabulous! We will definitely be back here during our SWFL stay.

Love the jambalaya! Lots of meat, shrimp, chicken and sausage, served with yellow rice. Just the right amount of heat. Add a garden salad. — Perfect combination. All day happy hour too!

Food delicious, drinks good, friendly and comfortable. I think the waitress was new as my chowder was served with my meal rather than before and that also happened to the table next to us. Also our main dishes could have been a little warmer. I had naked shrimp, hubby had fried oysters and scallops. All seafood was fresh and tasty. We’ll come back.

What a great surprise. Unassuming in a modest shopping center, old and worn looking. The food and service were very good. Best fried shrimp. Lovely soft shell crabs. Attentive and knowledgable service. We will be back…

Loved the food! We came right before close and still received great customer service. We sat outside which was great cause we could smoke and enjoy the nice weather. Food portions were generous and filling, prices were decent.

Dinner with large group. Quick service timely drinks and great seafood. This place knows how to do seafood. Blacken grouper as good as any bourbon street joint.

This place was awesome! Our service was great and attentive(thanks Dylan!) and our food was out of this world! Peel and Eat shrimp in Sunset Butter is a must have! Po’Boys and Catch of the Day Sandwich(Red Grouper on Christmas Eve!) were spot on! All the sides were great and we loved everything!

This is a great casual restaurant with an extensive menu. Here’re my highlights: Dylan-amazing waiter. Very friendly and accommodating. Stone crab claws-small but fresh. I was so anxious to try them I forgot to snap a picture. Oyster and scallop po’ boy-amazing. Fresh ingredients huge portion. Shrimp and Grits-great dish with good flavor. Just enough spice and an ample portion. Overall, it’s a great casual spot to grab some fresh seafood.

This place is awesome! Went there this past weekend with the gf and we ordered the gator appetizer, shrimp & grits, and a shrimp & oyster po boy. The food was fantastic. I’m hesitant to order that type of food outside of New Orleans because I’m typically disappointed, but I was anything but. The drinks there aren’t cheap, around $ 8, but they are very large and they don’t skimp on the alcohol. Definitely worth it in my opinion(try the Shark Bite, but only if you’re not driving)! Then, completing the 5 star rating, the service was great. Our server was very helpful and when he heard it was our 1st time there offered some great recommendations. The second drink I had was a bit sweet for my taste, and as soon as I mentioned it, he immediately grabbed it and made another one. Definitely completes the experience. Highly recommended spot, and I’ll certainly be back! Also, if you have a dog, bring him/her with you! They allow dogs on the patio, provide water, and even offer«doggie meals»

Went here on a whim on our way home from the beach. Cool little place on the end of a shopping center. They have an outdoor patio as well. We just went for apps and drinks. Had the fried shrimp and soft shell crab. Both were decent. The rest of the menu wasn’t too impressive. It was okay for what we wanted at that time.

I have eaten here many times. I would usually get the Po-Boy sandwhich which is basically a fried soft-shelled crab on a bun with some spicy mayo on it. Delicious! The restaurant itself is pretty basic. Very beachy feel to the décor. Great place to stop in and grab a bite to eat.

Here is my 2 cents on the food. I was here after a quick stop in costco. It was early 11AM. I was the first customer of the day. I ordered the in house made sweet tea. It was fine just not outstanding. The menu was very long. It took me a while to peruse it. I found my item jambalaya. Not very many places make jambalaya. If they do, it is not too good. This was good. almost as good as mine. It was full of shrimp, sausage and chicken. They used a lot of white chicken I prefer dark meat. It was spicy enough for me so I did not have to add extra hot sauce. It is the way jambalaya is suppose to be made. Most likely too much for floridians taste buds. But that’s their loss. My only concern was the celery. It was a bit too crunchy. But they make it fresh everyday due to it popularity. I arrived when they just open. Oh yes they serve a lightly toasted garlic bread with the jambalaya. So you can slurp up all the juices. Anyway it was wonderful dish I see why it is the 2nd most popular entrée on the menu. Oh yes a thumbs up to Louis my server he did a great job.

Salty Papa’s get an average score. After three visits, our experience had one high point, one REALLY low point and everything else was just okay. The high point was the Creole Shrimp Jambalaya. Very well done — great taste. The low point was the Hot Pepper Shrimp. Be Aware: this dish has a very strong vinegar taste. I don’t mind vinegar when it’s part of a well-seasoned dish. I could handle only one bite(all I tasted was the vinegar). Yuk. We tried other dishes and they all fell in the the ok range. Nothing to complain about but nothing that would have you coming back for more. The location is uninspiring: a hole in the wall place at the end of a tired strip mall. The service was adequate(just barely). Our server took our order, brought our order and brought the check. Nothing extra.

Get the shrimp and grits. It amazing! It has sausage and a good amount of shrimp. And the pink sauce is amazing… The other highlight is their sweet potato fries. Love em… The crab and corn chowder was okay. Would have been better with a little more crabmeat.
