This is our favorite Mexican place in Fort Wayne. The retried beans are homemade and I’ve never had anything that wasn’t delicious. The service is always very friendly. You may have to wait a little longer for your food than other popular Mexican restaurants in town, but I think that’s a good thing. It means the food you are getting is actually being cooked for you, not spooned from a steam tray.

Stopped in here today and had a Chorizo burrito lunch special with rice and it was amazing. Best chorizo I’ve ever tasted and for the low price, just unbelievable. The gentleman providing service was exceptional. This is a diamond in the rough right here. I will be back.

I stopped in for some chips and salsa, partly because I read a review saying how fantastic it was and mostly because I had visited this place once before about ten years ago. As I remembered it, their salsa was one of the best and most unique I’d ever tasted. The salsa used to be warm, slightly chunky and almost had a roasted flavor to it. It was so tasty you could eat it like soup, no chips needed. You know it had to be good if I still remembered it from 10 years ago! Now I must admit that this visit was slightly disappointing. First, my car and I barely made it through the parking lot due to the man-hole sized put holes that were virtually unavoidable. Then as I walked in, I saw not much had changed since I’d walked through the doors a decade ago-peeling paint rusty doors, white-ish tile floor, cheap tables and chairs and a sparse and generic décor. It goes without saying that this is certainly not a place you go to for the ambiance. Nonetheless, I went for the salsa. It had undergone a change from what I recalled. It was no longer warm and toasty. Though not as wonderful as I was hoping, this version could give most other Mexican joints a run for their money. It was a nice consistency with a medium bodied tomato sauce base teeming with chunks of diced white onions, fresh cilantro and a moderate amount of heat to keep things interesting. Chips? …meh. Yellow corn and warm but with a less-than-fresh taste. And the costs for a rather small order of each: $ 4.50! A bit too high for the value. As I look back over my review, I know I won’t be back. It wouldn’t even be worth traversing the pot holes.

First the good. The pastor taco was fantastic. This place also has fantastic salsa, l can honestly stay it might be the best salsa I have ever had. Now the bad, I ordered four tacos and two sandwiches which took almost 30 minutes to receive. Secondly the chicken Torta and the chicken taco were terrible. I mean horrible. It was boiled unseasoned chicken, they did nothing to it. Dry flavorless chicken. When 50% of my dinner sucks I can dare say I will not return. Even for that bomb ass salsa. Damn what a shame.

Been here twice in the last week and got the chile relleno both times. This place is a diamond in the rough. Forget all the chain Mexican places. This place is for real. Perhaps it’s the location. Not in a very friendly environment as far as being noticed from the road. Try it once and you will make every effort to come back. Watch the parking lot though. It has potholes that could swallow a small car.

La Fogata is a great, authentic Mexican restaurant. I really enjoy stopping in here for a burrito lunch — cheap, quick, and incredibly delicious. Blows a Chipotle burrito out of the water. I don’t know a whole lot about the rest of the menu, but based on the carnitas burrito I would be willing to try anything they serve.
