The food is fantastic. Can’t go wrong with pork and rice. Fried plantains were not fried long enough for my taste but still excellent.

Great food. Not badly priced either. The mofongo was fantastic… Especially with the shrimp. Disappointed that we couldn’t order pasteles… But everything else was great. Definitely will be stopping by again soon.

Food: 3 stars. Location: 4 stars. Value: 5 stars. Since this review requires a single star value, 5 stars it is. That rating is based on bang for your buck in terms of price. That said, here are the critiques: the later in the day you go, the drier the protein tends to be. If that bothers you, either go earlier or be prepared to drench your meat in beans and hot sauce. Since this is a place that advertises a «lunch special» it’s best to either go early, or else be forgiving. So if it’s on your way for a quick lunch or dinner or take-out, and you’re looking to spend under $ 10, and you’d rather not visit a fast food chain, give Tropic Chicken a try.

Wow so we start the day watching the stock market drop a 1000+ points, so we thought we could use a good cheap lunch. So we find this place on Unilocal. It is worth the drive. À real home cooked feel with amazing flavor. We both got the $ 4.95 meat, rice, and bean option. They have all 4 major meat types available, 3 types of rice and real pintos. I am shocked by the amount of meat that comes on it. We suggest there green hot sauce to add to the flavor. It’s is a nice quiet dining room and the staff was very friendly. It has now become our new go to place for great quality comfort food. They have Faygo! This the place!

This place is off the hook. Best chicken around. The sides are amazing as well. Great service and atmosphere. Try it and you will be hooked.

Great inexpensive lunch option while downtown on a bike ride. Will definitely be coming back. The chicken was fall off the bone tender. Very generous portions.

I want to love this place so bad. The two times I have had the chicken here, it was dry. I mean very dry. Now in their defense both times I have shown up it has been within a hour or so of the place closing. The sides were fine, but I must say that this place charged for water. I understand everybody has to make a buck, but I was choking down the dry chicken and could have used a cup of water… for free. The price is great for what you get though(food wise).

You can’t beat the $ 5 large Togo box with your choice of meat, choice of beans or lentils, and choice of rice! This is the type of Togo food that makes me speed to get home. If I could snitch a lil in the car I would, it’s that good. The empanadas remind me of a place in Puerto Rico, I crave them. This place is a must try, the employees are always very friendly, and the food is FAB!

The best chicken I’ve ever had!!! The food here is incredible and very affordable. I stop whoever I’m close. Bonus, now open on Mondays!!! Empanadas are great. And the daily specials have me eating incredible food I wouldn’t normally order.

Great food, very friendly service. I went lunch and they had the option of ordering off a menu or picking from a buffet style options that were hot and ready. Don’t confuse the food as Mexican, because it’s not. As the name Tropic Chicken suggests, it’s Tropic. They offered a variety of chicken options as well as multiple rice dishes plus fried yucca and plantain! Yum! I will return.

Cheap good food. The person at the counter was great and helped us figure out what to do. The roasted chicken was fabulous, and just as good the next day too!!! The chicken, beans, and rice meal was only $ 4.50 and worth every penny. Plenty to feed most people, except a growing 14 year old boy, hence the whole chicken. I had the mofongo and it was okay. Never had it before and probably wont get it in the future, but worth trying.
