My boyfriend and I dropped in before a movie on Saturday and split the Badass Bacon Waffle. It was so delicious we decided to come back Sunday before we left town. Cool vibe, amazing food and great service.

I was excited to try this place out after seeing their great reviews, awesome outdoor seating, and especially after finding out that they’re related to the Meddlesome Moth in Dallas. We came here kinda late both times, around 10pm, with the intention of getting some coffee and dessert. They were one of the few places that stay open late(until midnight) and was within walking distance from where we were at. Being the piggies that we are, we «felt bad» about just getting the sweet stuff, so went for some food too each time. The food here is pretty decent so far. Our waiter from the first time was attentive, friendly, and made the effort of answering our questions regarding some of the dishes. The second time was a different waiter, and he seemed like he wasn’t too fond of working there that late(still an hour before closing). Our biggest disappointment was the desserts, the main things we were there for. Seemed like because it was close to the closing time, they either ran out of ingredients or just didn’t give a rat’s ass about making the dishes look presentable. Our desserts came out looking pretty damn pathetic(see pics). The flavor was good, but compare to other people’s pics on Unilocal,a lot of stuff was missing from ours. The second time we couldn’t get any dessert. My bf even made sure to tell our waiter that we were interested in some desserts after some appetizers and drinks. When we asked our waiter about the dessert 30mins later, he told us the kitchen already closed, wtf, there was still another hour before closing, plus ain’t they supposed to let their patrons know ahead of time for any last request??? It’s definitely a nice place to come grab a bite and people watch. I’m not giving up on them yet. Gonna try to come here earlier next time and see if things would be different.

New Americana… interesting experience Whenever I visit my parents in Fort Worth, they love to take me to new places in town. After a few years living in Asia, I was excited to see something new and refresh my palate. They chose Bird Café because it both fronts the new Sundance Square(new to me) and has historical roots. Hits: The fried duck wings melted in the mouth with an almost tempura-like thin breading, yum. The location is wonderful, infused with the energy of a growing downtown. The renovation/décor is fresh and modern yet pays homage to its aesthetic past. Misses: it’s almost comical, really, but when being seated(I asked to be outside so I could take in the fun atmosphere of the new square) the hostess took us to an empty section to the side. I asked if we could sit in the huge section directly in front of the café(only 3 out of what must have been 25 tables were occupied) — she ran inside to see if it was possible. Then when she finally came back she led us to the back, but since all the tables facing the square were empty(as was nearly the entire area), I asked if we could sit closer because of the beautiful view. She put the menus down, said«whatever» and walked away. Throughout our dinner we saw her do the same thing with two other families. Poor thing, perhaps her first day? At least our waiter was super kind. I can’t say I’d return for the food, but just a drink outside on the terrace taking in the sites of Sundance Square would have probably been the best option

We visited the Bird Café for dinner before a show at Bass Hall. We were seated on the patio by our request. The dinner got off to a rocky start. My wife ordered the signature cocktail and received the wrong drink. After we brought the server over to fix the problem, it was discovered that there was an old menu in circulation with the prior signature cocktail that my wife chose. The server cheerfully replaced the drink with a mojito which was good. We decided to go with a small plate selection starting with mussels. They were very tasty. Next we ordered seared tuna ‘on stick’. The were bland, tasteless and boring: a clean miss. Stay away from these. Next we had fish and chips which were very good. We like the Bird and we like the patio overlooking Sundance Square, however, this meal was very average and the service not quite as attentive. Not enough to keep us away, but well below past experience.

We were here on a Saturday evening when Sundance Square was buzzing and it was a beautiful night! We had patio seating which was quite nice except the table was too small for our party of 4. The servers would just hand off our dishes to us with not a care as to how it would fit on the table. That said the food was great! We had the shareable plates: Curried lamb on stick(a little over done for my liking) but good flavors, steak on stick — the salsa was to die for, sautéed asparagus coins and tips — unusual the way it’s chopped into little bits but very easy to eat, hummus and warm pita– delicious especially with the pickled cauliflowers, olives, fresh cucumber and cherry tomatoes served on top. Our son had the cheeseburger which was also great! My cocktail the — Verde was to die for– as the waitress described it, it was as if Jamba Juice made me a cocktail– fresh, yummy and healthy!

FANTASTICBRUNCH! I’ve walked by Bird Café for many years; it’s in the heart of Sundance Square; always crowded; not willing to wait in line! Well, after yesterday’s wonderful experience, all has changed! Ambience: we were seated out at their patio; perfect that was in capturing the whole scene: the sounds of conversations; the laughter of kids splashing in the waterway; and, the sight of families all dressed up for Mother’s Day Service: incredible waiter we had; never missing a beat; when we informed him that we have a 2pm performance to catch at Bass, he magically made our hour time spent at Bird Café like three Food: I love, love, love their Bird Creole Benedict: holy cow: stacked split muffin, fried green tomatoes, poached eggs, crawfish étouffée, all smothered with their cayenne hollandaise — so tasty, so many textures, not heavy whatsoever This was my first but will not be my last! Cheers!

Long story short. I didn’t love it but I didn’t hate it either. This could easily be a case of maybe it’s me and not the restaurant. I’ll never know for sure. The restaurant sits right on Sundance Square. We opted for the patio because I wanted to take in the sights and sounds of the Square. Our waiter was very nice. He was working both the inside and outside. You would have never known because he didn’t miss a beat. We started with the deviled eggs. It tasted very pasty. I was very disappointed by this. I had to add salt to give it some type of flavor. My boyfriend seemed to be okay with them. I passed and let him finish the rest. Our entrée came out shortly after the appetizer. I opted for the burger with the white BBQ sauce and my boyfriend chose the fish and chips. The burger was very flavorful but messy. The bun was very soft and fluffy. I also enjoyed the buttered pickles on the side. The French fries were so-so. They were kind of chewy and limp. I also ate one of boyfriend’s fish pieces. It was nothing special. Again, he was good with it and I wasn’t. Finally, our desserts arrived. Again, it was okay. It was just okay. There’s nothing that would make me say to someone«oh you’ve got to try this place!» However, it’s not a place I would say stay away from. Check it out for yourself. Would I come back? Probably not.

Their food is different than what I usually eat. I’ve been here three times, and each time I’ve had something different. The ambience is nice, a darker mood setting(which I am a fan of). The back of the menus tell you the history of the old building, which used to be home to the Flying Saucer, before it moved down the street. It’s also bird themed. If you look closely at the bar it has a bird seed type finish to it. The first time was at Sunday brunch, and I had a table reserved. I ordered the Mother & Child reunion, and it was amazing! The jalapeño gravy is what makes it. They were good enough to substitue fried potatoes instead of grits. My second trip there was on a Saturday evening, and while there was a bit of a wait for a table, my guest and I opted for the bar area, where there was no waiting, and full service. My guest had the rabbit pot pie, and I had the roasted chicken. The cauliflower purée on my chicken was senstational, and I haven’t eaten cauliflower since I was a child. My third trip there was on a Friday afternoon. There was no waiting and I got a table fairly quickly. That time I tried their hamburger. Whenever I go out I try not to get the hamburger, mostly because for many years it was my default. However, after seeing it in pictures, I had to eventually get it. I added bacon to mine. It was stupendous, and honestly, the second greatest hamburger I’ve ever tasted.

Probably THE most enjoyable patio on Sundance Square. A perfect lunch spot to get the right amount of sun. With Alabama Shakes in the background and a delicious meal in front of you, little else matters in the world. I’ve been been here several times and never been disappointed. The menu changes seasonally but you really can’t go wrong with any selection. A must try for a date, small group, or a solo indulgence.

My husband and I visited Bird Café for the first time on Friday. My husband had always wanted to try this place and his birthday seemed like a perfect time. We did have a reservation. I think that’s largely the key here… get a reservation. Otherwise there will be quite a wait and possibly a service issue. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the greeter and given a five minute wait time. The atmosphere was inviting yet classy. Within a few minutes we were approached by a young lady who led us to the elevator(my hubby had just had surgery) and upstairs we went. I was delighted at the charming décor and ambiance of the room. No children and everyone was dressed nicely. The tables were placed a bit close together but that didn’t bother us too much since the room was quiet and cozy. Very soon after being seated the server arrived and took our drink orders. He explained the menu and the style, which is a sort of family style with the shared dishes. We requested the hummus and pita bread to start. After approximately 10 minutes the hummus arrived with warm pita triangles. The hummus was delicious, adorned with greek olives, tomatoes, red wine vinegar soaked cauliflower, The bread was most impressive being soft, warm, and seasoned. The hummus itself, although yummy, was not much different than any other but that’s understandable… hummus is hummus. He then returned to take our order. We got the shared spaghetti squash and rabbit pot pie, and the non shared chicken with mashed cauliflower and asparagus. First to arrive was the pie and squash. The rabbit pot pie was very good but not my favorite, however, my husband LOVED it and thought it was amazing. I’d never tried rabbit before. It’s actually quite tasty. Served hot in a crisp crust with hominy and collard greens in the sauce. As for the squash. I pretty much inhaled that stuff. It was amazing. Slightly sweet, succulent, the texture… so perfect. A few minutes later came the chicken plate, which we did share. The cauliflower was ok but definitely never a replacement for potatoes. but that’s the thing now. The chicken was divine. Tender, juicy, delicious. The asparagus… that was the star for me. I’ve never had asparagus I’ve loved more. Tender, buttery, drool inducing. Unfortunately they were out of the dessert I wanted so we decided to have none. The waiter boxed up each of our leftovers individually in boxes. He was so attentive the whole time. For two people, one drink, three shared plates, one not shared plate, and 20% tip the total was $ 80.00. Well worth it. We will go back again, and always will get a reservation.

Bird Café is located in the heart of Sundance Square, where Flying Saucer once stood many years ago. As Flying Saucer moved across the street to where 8.0s once was, this gorgeous building now hosts a great addition to the iconic Sundance Square. They have taken this antique building and transformed it into a modern, fun and classy joint. The artwork featuring birds is by local artists. Bird Café comes to us from the same folks who gave us Meddlesome Moth in Dallas. The Chef is David McMillian, who works at both Meddlesome Moth and The Bird. At The Moth, you get a huge selection of beers, while The Bird offers less beer choices and more wine choices. The lunch menu is fantastic. I have had many of their salads and sandwiches. On this visit, I enjoyed the egg salad sandwich and a cup of gumbo. I was very pleased with the gumbo. It was nice and spicy and thick. For dinner, similar to The Moth, The Bird offers shared plates and adventurous items not generally found in Fort Worth. The restaurant also has outdoor seating, overlooking Sundance Square.

I debated for a while in how many start to give to this place… The food was great and just for the food I would have given it 4 or 5 starts! The place is also very nice and in a great location! If it is good weather I totally recommend to go to their first floor outside area. Now, why am I only giving 3*? The service… Maybe we were just not lucky, but the waiter was just not professional. I have to say that other reviews here about the staff are pretty much what I experienced. We will come back just for the food! Hopefully, next time the entire experience will be great!

food was good, i just wish it were a tad more different from Meddlesome Moth(its sister restaurant in Dallas); it’s like they took an almost identical menu and brought it to Fort Worth. They’re a talented crew, surely they could’ve thought up and executed something a little different for Funkytown. That said, the food and overall dining experience itself~ can’t really complain much. FROMMAGEMUSSELS~ tarragon, blue cheese… rich but not overwhelmingly so, and the tarragon really perks up the mussels and juices. And, of course, bread to sop up all them juices… yummmmy. PORKBELLY~ tastes like a weird combo of japanese sukiyaki and korean pork belly with kimchi, but somehow it works. Came in a clay pot to retain the heat and let it continue to simmer while at the table. BONEMARROW~ the best thing that night. Capers and pesto on top really put the marrow over the top when it came to flavor~ really bold and something i’d definitely order again. The only off thing was the COLLARDGREENS~ it wasn’t that the dish(which included cornbread) was bad; in fact, it was done fine and would have been a welcome entry to any southern cooking restaurant. However, since it was done at Bird Café where the other dishes were really forward and audacious in taste, the collard greens come across a bit«vanilla», if that makes any sense. They have lots of good dishes, and so maybe its presence on the menu was superfluous.

When I lived in Fort Worth, two of the best days I had were on the patio at Bird Café. The first: the first ladies’ brunch with two women who would become my best friends in the city. I had the Mother and Child plate(last day on Earth caliber food), more than my fair share of our two pitchers of sangria, laughed til I cried. The second: a date with a boy I was crazy about, a dog, a lamb gyro with perfectly crisp greens, more than my fair share of his fries, lots of sweet glances. Bird Café is one of my favorite places in Fort Worth, and it might be yours, too. Get there and make some memories.

Holy Historical! So this restaurant sits right on the main plaza of Sundance square. The original structure was built in 1849 and most of it has been refurbished, but some parts of the original still stand. LIKETHEFREAKINGAMAZING, CLASSICWOODENCREAKYSTAIRCASE. My little nerdy, history loving heart had made my way up that staircase to use the restroom when I stumbled across its awesomeness, along with some beautiful stained glass windows. I quickly marched my rear down stairs and proceeded to grill the hostesses about the coolness of the staircase… they weren’t as intrigued and directed me to the history lesson on the back on the menu. So my curiosity was satisfied! If you’re interested you can read more there! I didn’t have anything to eat at the café, but I skimmed over the menu and everything looked delish; fancy plates for lunch, brunch and dinner. We just had a couple glasses of wine and admired the square, the patio at the Bird Café and enjoyed ourselves. The wine menu ranged from average to quite costly(holy kamole!) You can buy by the bottle, or just by the glass. I spent $ 8 for a basic glass of Pinot Grigio– La Fiera. We had our first glasses sitting on the downstairs patio and enjoyed our second glasses upstairs at the fire pit(I’d also found this little patio on my trip up that awesome staircase). Our waitress Misha was adorable. First of all she had awesome style and an awesome personality to go with it. I loved her red hair and her attentiveness to us as patrons. We spent some extra time visiting with her, up on the patio about her time with famous people that frequent the Bird Café. She took really great care of us! This place was seriously so cool. And it will be my frist stop the next time I go back into down town. I love love loved it!

This is my 2nd review for the bird café. I’ve came here for dinner and today I tried their brunch. I’m not sure about Saturday but Sunday’s are def busy! Tried to put a reservation in before you get in. It was about a 20 min wait for a table of 4. First we ordered drinks Bird mimosa, michelada, the dudes imbides, French press at medium roast. Bird mimosa: very strong hibiscus flavor Michelada: this drink has Bloody Mary ice cubes The dudes imbides: I’m not a beer person but I’m sure men would love this. Kinda taste like coffee ice cream Foods Badass bacon waffle: this was such a flavorful meal! The waffle has bacon on top, caramel apples, maple syrup, and this white creamy sauce I wasn’t sure if it was the Brie but it adds so much flavor to the waffles and great with the fruits! Mom ordered waffle carne asada: this comes with a good amount of meat! So if you’re looking for something sweet and meaty I suggest this! Mother and child reunion: fried chicken is good! Soft, tender! Jalapeño gravy was great with the chicken. I’m not a big grits person. Pork cheek hash: 2 eggs on top and everything else at the bottom all mixed together! Pork, potatoes, onions, peppers. I didn’t think I was gonna like it but this dish has so much flavor! I love the bird café! They have never disappointment me!

Beautiful building and patio on Sundance Plaza. Dripping with rich history. Cannot beat the location and the ambience. I approached from the Sundance Plaza under the amazing awnings. Stood there a bit, watching staff buzz past me. Finally was directed inside the doors, down steps to the right, to a hostess stand in a corner. Seating is confusing. Not a good set up considering the warm invitation from the plaza side. I wasn’t the only one confused, which resulted in hard feelings for a couple who stood a bit, then sat themselves at an open table. A waiter approached them. I would say the waiter was too abrupt, asking them to connect with the hostess. They disappeared inside for about ten minutes before reappearing happy. Unusual menu, featuring such items as steak & stout pot pie, sweet pea guacamole, and moth balls. I ordered a fresh basil-lime cooler, water, and the Wells Bombardier beer battered cod and double fried fries(«chips»). The basil lime cooler was absolutely perfect. It had a little bit of a refreshing snap to it, contrasted against a slightly sweet but not too sweet lime base. Any time fresh basil clogs my straw, I am a happy man. Recommended. The fish and chips were good. The portion of fries was generous; three long fillets of cod breaded with a thick beer batter. The flavor of the fish was good, I am thinking it was not farm raised as I could actually tasting fish flavor. It came with catchup and a standard no frills mayonnaise-based tartar sauce. The fish was a little on the greasy side, but not obnoxiously so. I ordered Mexican blueberry cobbler with Mexican vanilla bean ice cream on top. Absolutely delicious. The ice cream was so good that I had to ask what brand it was. After surviving this summer’s Bluebell ice cream famine, I needed a good ice cream fix. Spot on! The waiter stated it is a Mexican-based brand called Henry’s vanilla bean ice cream. It is a bit denser and richer than the average vanilla ice cream. Perfect. I was in the Sundance plaza area doing photography. I had a physical malfunction with my camera tripod. I needed an Allen wrench and the waiter just happened to have one. No kidding. A multi sized multipurpose Allen wrench set that exactly fixed my problem. Happy happy happy! I would give a five star, except they need to fix the problem with people walking in and standing around, not knowing where to sit. I watched several people walking into the patio, standing, look around, wait, then eventually walk out of the patio and move over to a competitor.

We decided to come here because of the good Unilocal reviews. I want to say my friends and I just don’t have the proper palates, or the food was too high-concept for us, or it was an off day in the kitchen, or SOMETHING, but this is one of the few meals I’ve ever had in my entire life that I could not enjoy at all. We ordered a bunch of things to share. Sweet Pea Guacamole: Not actually bad. The texture was obviously not quite what I’m used to, and there was just something weird about having whole peas in my guacamole, but not terrible. The moth balls: Surprisingly, really bland. Which was actually kind of nice because everything we had was so salty. These were a lot thicker in the mouth than I expected, but that’s on me for trying to eat a whole one at once. The deviled eggs: The yolk mix was delicious. The hard-boiled eggs themselves, on the other hand, had been soaked in what seemed like really strong soy sauce. They were weirdly salty and not pleasant. Chinatown Fried Farro: The worst offender of them all, possibly due to the fact that I’m Asian and I take a lot of pride in the deliciousness of authentic Chinese food. This stuff was really salty, and REALLY greasy. The farro shined with grease, not unlike the way a pimply teenager’s forehead would shine with grease if you rubbed a slice of pizza on it. The texture was also not as soft as I had hoped it would be, especially because the flavor(though maybe not as salty) is one you would normally find with noodles. We left with both our wallets and our stomachs a lot emptier than they should have been.

We had an excellent lunch at Bird Café. It was our first time in Fort Worth, so we wanted to eat somewhere on the Square. We made a reservation for 1:30 on a Saturday, and when we arrived we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile and shown to a table in their lovely, dark-paneled dining room with bird prints on the walls and Sinatra on the stereo. Our waitress was at our table instantly, bringing us water and menus. We ordered the Sundance Caipihrina cocktail to share: fresh lime, muddled blackberry, Ypioca cachaca, and blood orange. It was heavenly, we adored it. Strong and sweet and fresh tasting. For our entrees, I ordered the Chilled Cucumber Sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the Greek Yellowfin Salad. Both were excellent. The cucumber sandwich was especially delicious – it had avocado, sprouts, goat cheese and savory marinated cucumber and was served with fresh, housemade potato chips. The Greek Yellowfin Salad consisted of thinly sliced, seared yellowfin tuna on a bed of delectable greek salad greens, including fun extras like capers and chickpeas. We couldn’t decide which entrée we liked better. The delicious food, romantic atmosphere and attentive service all added up to making this a five star experience for us, and we look forward to returning and eating on their patio when it’s not 100 degrees outside!
