Have heard great things, but it hasn’t been our experience the two times we have visited. Briskit was dry and mostly tough. They offer ‘spread’ instead of butter for the baked potato. Slow service. Bright spot: Texas Toast was the best ever! With many great BBQ restaurants in the area, it’s good to cross this one off the list — no need to return.

The food use to be good but the manager is an ass, I guess he’s part owner too. Went there for dinner ordered an appetizer and food for 3 of us. Out came my husbands, and my nephews. My order didn’t come then I was waiting I told them to go ahead and eat then it became uncomfortable for them, and the manager /owner was the one serving the food in the kitchen. I finally ask for the manager he came around the corner he looked at my table turned back around then all the sudden my plate appears. And he had the nerve to come out and say what’s your problem? In those exact words, then he says what the hell do you want me to do about it? I will never ever step foot in Sammy’s again after being treated like that he’s an ass!

The worst place to get bbq. Chicken tasted like it was a week old. Would not recommend.

First time here, and we’ll be back. Visited with friends who have been coming to Sammie’s for 30+ years at their original location. Causal and laid back, a must for anyone that wants some great BBQ. We started with okra and hush puppies. Both were pretty good, but enjoyed the okra more than the hush puppies. We had ribs, turkey, chicken, and sliced beef. The ribs were the star of the meal. If you order them, make sure to ask for extra sauce.

I wasn’t gonna, but I have to! I was so disappointed in this place. When you walk in you don’t even smell the pit«smoke» the smell your supposed to when you enter a BBQ place! The food had no smoke flavor the potato salad was the kind you buy at the store in a tub. The ham had marks as if it was cooked on a flat top grill(like the one you cook burgers on) not smoked, the wedge fries were soaked with grease! Their«BBQ sauce«was like brown water. The one good thing about this place is that our waitress was as sweet as pie and very attentive. When it was time to pay you go up to a glass window with a slot at the bottom to hand the money through and a small circle to communicate through that was connected to a side that was a bar. Defiantly will not be returning to this place at ALL!

Dude, the smoked pork tenderloin sandwich on TX toast. And wedge cut fries. So between downtown and my house there aren’t a lot of options. Enter the Belknap corridor. Edgy and other-worldly. The people next to me obviously chonged out their car before coming into to nosh some barbecue. First time I was heading home late I stopped out of curiosity and it was good. I stopped again shortly after for a late lunch and asked the guy next to me(an obvious regular) what to order. He came through in the clutch. The pork tenderloin sandwich was melt in your mouth good and the TX toast was the icing on the cake. Pickles and onions on the side. Fries were big thick cut wedges crispy and perfectly fluffy on the inside. And I don’t like wedge fries, usually. And I devoured them. The sauce is extra runny but not vinegar based. It’s sweet and smokey without tasting like corn syrup. And the big schooners are icey cold. Friendly staff. I instantly felt like a small town regular. And they have a HUGE party patio and a HUGE party pavilion out back with bathrooms.

Neither I nor my wife finished our meal. Far below the minimum standards for bbq. Not only was my meat dry, both sides were nasty. Staff was also ill-prepared for the lunch rush and management did little to help. Skip this joint. There are so many good bbq restaurants in FW that you could very easily find a much better spot to eat.

The family stopped at Sammie’s last Sunday after church. It was our second visit and we enjoyed our meals the first time. Unfortunately, the second trip was a big disappointment. Between us, we had sliced brisket, smoked sausage, bbq chicken, pork loin, ribs and fried catfish. Sides were onion rings, fries, coleslaw, beans, hush puppies and potato salad. Let me start with the meats. The fried catfish was excellent. I’d come back on the weekend for their catfish special. That being said, this is a bbq restaurant not a catfish restaurant. Meats: The brisket, ribs and pork loin were all very dry and overcooked or were leftovers that hadn’t been stored properly. My son said the smoked sausage tasted funny and ate only one bite. We didn’t even try the chicken so I can’t comment on it. Sides: the fries were house cut but so big(almost an inch wide and thick) that they didn’t cook properly and were just greasy, limp logs of semi-cooked potato. The onion rings are very thickly breaded(¼ inch thick or more) with soft, chewy breading not light, crispy batter. The beans were just bad, I don’t even know how to describe what was wrong with them. The coleslaw was very wet and not quite sweet enough for a sweet, creamy slaw(similar to the Colonel’s but not as good). The potato salad was pretty good. The hush puppies were very good. BBQ Sauce: Very thin but had a great flavor. It was a good dipping sauce for the very dry meat and would probably make a fantastic marinade. Didn’t float my boat as a bbq sauce though because it didn’t cling to the meat. Also, all of us that had the smoked meats didn’t feel all that great a few hours after the meal. Not sick, per se, but definitely didn’t have happy tummies. Did the place change ownership? It seemed very different from our first visit about a year ago. I don’t think we’ll be back unless its for the catfish.

Typical BBQ joint. Not too impressed this time. It is an old established and we have dined here a few times. Came in for a quick lunch which ended up taking about 90 minutes to 2 hours. Large softball team rolled in just after we sat down. That was pretty much the end of us for service. Only 2 wait staff who fumbled around although they were nice and apologetic. Super noisy as you would expect with 20 or so girls and sponsors. I do appreciate that they got all of the other peoples food out in an orderly and timely manner for the group. Then it was our turn. Unfortunately we lost the afternoon and though we would have quick service and be able to have a polite conversation for some business we intended with the other 3 people in our group of 5. It was just a bad decision on our behalf for what we anticipated. BBQ sauce is vinegar based not sweet southern style like I prefer. Almost a marinade. Just a preference not a conviction. The orders are large and fried so take your meds.

Ate here yesterday, it will be the last time. Turkey sand witch was not eatable. The slaw had no flavor. The flings, frys were alright, but onion rings were burnt. Sauce was like watered down catsup. And the bun. was tasted stale. The service was good and ice tea was good, very disappointing.

My first concern was when we walked in and place was nearly empty on a Friday night. Now I know why. Brisket was dry, flavorless, and nearly inedible. Ribs only OK, dry as well, and tasted more like ham. Sides not bad. Large portions and cheap, but despite good reviews on multiple sites, I cannot recommend this place. Why sell Corona, but don’t have limes(offered lemon!). Gotta be much better places.

I’ve wanted to try out Sammie’s for quite a while, and finally made it in. Compared to other BBQ joints in the area, it’s not bad at all. As I usually do when trying a BBQ joint for the first time, I got a 3-meat plate. This one had ribs, sliced brisket, and pork. A huge kuddos to them for the fact that none of the meat was dry or old, something that a lot of BBQ places struggle with. Also, while I understand it is a matter of personal taste and preference, I loved their vinegar-based(«sour») coleslaw. It’s very simple, but is refreshing and goes well with the meat. Their sauce comes on the side(as it should), and I liked it a lot. It is different than most, and that’s a good thing. If you want a heavy sauce, thick with corn syrup and artificial flavors, then bring a bottle of pre-packaged stuff from Kroger. This sauce is thin, not sweet, and I’m pretty sure that it is made from the drippings produced while smoking the meat. Hats off to them for that. I enjoyed it, and it did complement the meat very well. All the meat had a decent smoke flavor, though I would have liked to taste more of a distinct wood flavor, either hickory or pecan or even oak. There wasn’t much of that discernable. The BBQ beans weren’t bad, but they could be more flavorful. A little bit of that BBQ sauce and salt and pepper helped a lot. Unfortunately the pork on the menu is not shoulder, but is loin. It wasn’t overcooked and it had a good flavor, but it’s just not what I call BBQ. The ribs are baby back ribs, not spare ribs. That’s not a positive or a negative, both can be made into excellent BBQ, it’s just an observation. I love baby backs, and these had a decent flavor and were juicy, but were also a little undercooked. The meat was a little too hard to get off the bone, and some of it was even still pink near the bone(not smoke-ring pink, but not-quite-done pink). Overall I enjoyed it. I salute them for making sauce the old fashioned way. Today I’m just giving them a 3 because a couple of the things mentioned above, but I can see that possibly improving in the future, in fact I’d probably give them 3 ½ if I had that option. I’ll go back again sometime and give them another shot, though next time I’ll just have ribs and/or brisket.

First timer — and I won’t be back. Had rib plate with a hot link on the side, beans and«tart» cole slaw. It started out bad when I find that the tough membrane is still attached to the inside curve of the ribs, then it got worse. They were dry with no flavor, and the hot link was like jerky — hard, tough and dry. The sauce was thin, dark brown and sweet; the tart slaw was chopped cabbage in vinegar; the beans were non-descript. The service was good though.

Decent, simple, Texas-style BBQ restaurant! The food is your typical Texas BBQ — nothing spectacular, but the waiters here are friendly and courteous, so it’ll make your dining experience a pleasant one.

I was up the street at a repair shop so I decided to cruise for a place for dinner. I drive past this place, somewhat large restaurant on a «creek» and had a nice ambiance for a BBQ place so I stopped by. There is plenty of parking, there is an outdoor patio overlooking the«creek» which was kinda inviting in a way. The first thing I noticed upon walking up to the door is that’s it’s divided. If your coming from the outside in, the right door enters the bar with bar seating and TVs. The left door is the restaurant which has tables and such and 1TV. I sat down, it’s like many BBQ places, has the paper towels on the table. Now to the food: I ordered the rib plate and my friend ordered the sliced brisket plate. I ordered fries and beans.(Not baked beans, just beans evidently). I was warned by the waitress that the BBQ sauce was«thin» because they want you to taste the meat… lol… Well the ribs were very tasty, I think they prob weren’t heating optimally because they seemed rather dry but it didn’t detract. The brisket was wonderful and it was dry slightly but wow I really liked it and I find most brisket flavorless when not right so it was done right in my eyes. The sauce was really thin and couldn’t get it to stay anywhere. You know what I’m not concerned with how they feel about BBQ sauce, I want a nice sauce for my BBQ that I can actually use on the meat! The service: The waitress was very nice and helpful regarding the food, but she couldn’t remember to bring anything. I waited on everything but the food. I think I reminded her 2 – 3 times just for wet naps and a bowl for the rib bones. We were one of two tables on the restaurant side also. I still tipped her good, maybe it was an off day for her. All in all I’d stop in again although it’s by no means the best of breed in town.

I’ve heard of Sammie’s for a long time, and at the suggestion of a friend, we gave it a go for lunch today. We arrived right when they opened, and on a bank holiday, so there wasn’t much in the way of a rush just yet. The ambiance is classic Texas BBQ — wood walls, all kinds of horseshoes and stuff on the walls, and restrooms labeled as «Bulls» and«Heifers». Clever. And they flaunt the fact they have the 3rd coldest beer in Tarrant County. We didn’t opt for a beer since we were there so early, though. We inquired about their wings — we’re on the search for smoked wings — and the wings at Sammie’s are fried. So no wings on this visit. I went with the chopped beef sandwich and frings(fries and rings) on the side. Food was served up hot and fast. I found my sandwich to be small but good, but nothing really extraordinary. The bbq sauce is served up hot, and is runny, so be careful if you choose to administer sauce on a by-bite basis. The sauce lacked much in the way of flavor. The fries were good — super-thick cut, but I’d have loved them 100 times more if I’d brought my garlic salt. The onion rings were different. Imagine a hush puppy coating your ring — pretty good and really, really filling. Service was friendly. Our server was new and was happy to check on answers to questions she was unsure of. She got our orders right, and let us know of their usual AYCE days and times.

As a non-Texan, this place is mighty scary with bulletproof glass between the ordering counter and the cashier. And yet, you just know it’s the real deal old school ghetto Texan style that the locals love. If you’re a local, I’m sure you know about this place already. If you aren’t a local, I’d assume this isn’t the type of place you should go.

We started coming to Sammie’s back in 1962 when it was a small, drive-up, carhop place with a few tables inside. They have a large building now but that and a few extra items on the menu are all that have changed. .. the ribs are as good as ever! We only get ribs, baby-back ribs. They are not served with a thick, sweet, red sauce. .. Sammie’s has a dark, thin, worchestershire-based sauce, it is addictive and you won’t find it anyplace else. We get ours with«real», not frozen fries, tart coleslaw, Texas toast, and onions/pickles. They also have the coldest beer around. This is the only place that our entire family loves. All we have to say is, «Sammie’s?» And they respond, «What time?» And, all we ever get is ribs. Mmmmmmmmmm. .. getting hungry just typing this up. Might almost be time to make another Sammie’s run. There was a time when this was one of the best Bar B Q joints in Fort Worth. Those days are past. It’s still a good place to have a beer with some friends and hang out while listening to a band. The sliced brisket is fatty and dry and while the sauce is okay it can’t make fat taste good! LOVE the french fries, that’s about it. The service is very good usually and super friendly.

Sammies is good BBQ. Really good. The spouse and I were in Ft. Worth for some bidness and hit Sammies for a late lunch. There we a couple of old school pan head chopped Harley’s in the parking lot along with pick up trucks so you know right a way you’ve got a fun mix of folks dining and/or drinking today! The bar was packed(2:30 in the afternoon!) and the restaurant still had a respectable crowd, too. Freezing cold beer is one of the big draws for Sammies and when you add in the good food, you have a good BBQ experience. I love the bathroom doors, too… one marked Bulls and the other is for Heifers! The décor is kitchy Texas. All barn siding and red checked table cloths. So you get atmosphere along with good BBQ. Now to the food. The hubby had the chicken plate with 2 sides and ordered a side of Sammies superior onion rings. I am a chopped beef sandwich kinda gal. Both our dinners came out in no time and we tucked in. The chicken was tender and moist on the inside with that smokey barbque-y taste throughout. The dinner came with a big buttery slice of Texas toast, a slice of onion and a dill pickle. The sides of pinto beans and green beans were ok, just regular veggies. My husband loves the onion rings from Sammies and I must say, he is right. They are batter dipped rather than coated in bread crumbs and they are awesome. They are like a funnel cake but not sweet and full of onions… or something like that, but seriously, I’d come here just for the onion rings! They are fine! I had the chopped beef which can sometimes be an iffy proposition, you have no idea what you are getting. The chopped beef from Sammies is just large chunks of brisket, no mystery meat and it was delish. Very moist and served on a buttered toasted bun. Heaven. I had the sweet slaw for my side and it was just like mama used to make. They have a tart slaw, too. Sammies does the sort of vinegar based barbque sauce rather than the really sweet gooey barbque sauce so you get a slightly different taste from some other local bbq joints. They also have a great patio out back right if you get the yen to dine al fresco and a drive through right up front if you need it to go. The owner is very jovial and came by our table to talk about Memorial Day. My hubbie is a Marine Corps vet and had on a USMC T-shirt. The owner noticed and thanked my husband for his service. I thought that was awesome. He told us a couple of jokes, too. Gotta love that kind of customer service! Overall, Sammies is really good bbq and worth a stop by if you are in Ft. Worth.
