A small dive bar located along Magnolia Ave. they have a great selection of beers which is a plus. They have a little area for a pool table, they play great music and was playing a movie on the big screen on our visit. I’m not a big fan of cigarette smoke so this may be may deal breaker of coming back any time soon.

Perfect spot to grab a beer after a long day. Best Jukebox in the city hands down. Sometimes when it gets busy the other patrons are a little over the top. Bright side Next door has some bomb ass nachos if you accidentally drink too much.

It was very smoky, and the karaōke DJ didn’t respect the rotation.

They probably sell more PBR than any other bar in FtW, but the bartenders are awesome and still make it feel like a local pub. Its smoking, so if you don’t smoke or it bothers you, this is not the place for you.

Alright, I’ve sat on this for awhile now because I really, really liked this place and kept wanting to give it more chances. But now that I’ve stopped going, I feel like it’s time to review. I used to be a regular here, but things bothered me too much to keep coming. Despite that, I will start with the good: board/card games on some of the tables makes for a fun time with friends. They also play good movies on occasion. The music is pretty good. Their selection of beer is good and the drinks are also strong. What I consider to be a let down: it’s extremely smokey here. No, I am not a smoker, but my girlfriend smokes so I’m used to the smell. But in this place, I mean… I’m not even sure if it gets filtered out at all. Gives me a pretty bad headache if I stay in there too long. There is also a problem with service. Both my girlfriend and I have experienced slow and indifferent staff on numerous(and separate) occasions. I mean, one of the bartenders there will just straight up ignore you for awhile when she is talking to another guest. To be honest though, I’m not sure if she still works there as it has been a long time since I’ve been there. Overall, an OK place. I’ll probably be back at some point but it’s not my go-to in the Magnolia area anymore.

I recently had the pleasure of drinking at this fine establishment after my Wednesday night jazzercise class with Ft Worth’s aerobics guru Chaz Chesterson. Chaz was impressed with The Boiled Owl’s wide array of local craft box wine. Chaz, a hip-hop enthusiast, was mildly disappointed with the lack Two-Pack Shackoor(sp?) selections in the jukebox, but the ever so crafty DJ Chazzy Chess belted out a tearful rendition of Big Pune’s «I’m not a player, I drink Crush a lot,» leaving the local hip-happers in a state of blissful ecstasy. After this beautiful phenomenon we met a local«juggler» who impressed us with his ornately painted face and his enthusiasm for a little known circus themed rap duo of crazy clowns. He invited us to a gathering of jiggalos, but Chaz was not impressed by male prostitution so we politely declined. If you’re looking for a classy way to spend a Wednesday night or looking to impress your pals with your ability to select the right box of wine to accompany the evening, The Boiled Owl is the place for you.

I absolutely love the rooftop atmosphere!!! It has a beautiful view of the city! There is live music and he’s pretty good. They have special drink menu after 8or so. The waiters are nice for it to as busy as it is. The lighting is very romantic. Great place for a date night!

Two stall bathroom. Usually pretty clean. For awhile one of the stall doors broke so you had to do that thing where you hold the door closed with your foot while you go. The door is fixed now. The soap dispensers don’t dispense much so you get a little bit of foam and hope for the best. Love the bar though so it gets 4 stars for that. Rarely a wait.

I stopped in here last night at my sister’s request. We were out celebrating for her recent accomplishment and this was where she wanted to go. When I walked in I immediately thought to myself … now this looks like a comfortable, dive bar that the locals can hang in. It was just that. The bar was a bit smokey I thought because Fort Worth still allows smoking in doors, but it was tolerable for someone that doesn’t smoke. The bar was pretty packed as it was Saturday night. The group I was with snagged a booth and one of the stand up tables. We were able to hang out, have some great conversation and listen to some good music. Everyone was friendly. We didn’t order any mixed drinks but did have some beers and the bartenders were great to us. I would definitely come back here the next time I am in town!

Tried Boiled Owl for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. The crowd was very laid back, the live music was good, and they have a great beer selection. It did take a little while longer to get a drink than what I am usually used to(15 minutes) but they were busy so I can understand. They have a nice little patio in the front as well. Everyone was super nice on the staff, which is what I enjoy most about a good bar. No cover even though there were bands, but you could donate if you chose to, which was cool. I will definitely hang out here more and it will likely become a regular hang out in the future.

I’ve received some very judgemental and uninformed messages. In reaponse, «I never bother about that. Those who matter don’t mind, and those who mind don’t matter.»(Bernard Baruch). The only comment worth shareing; «That place is a dive bar» True, but we didn’t know that when we made the plans since we don’t frequent bars regularly. Thanks for sharing your opinion as a regular patron and have a great day.

We went there last night and had drinks and listened to music. It was too expensive and too stuffy. The bouncer asked me to stop screaming at the band. He said I was getting on their nerves. I’ve screamed at hundreds of bands and I always assumed they like it. I like it when the audience screams at MY band. This place wants you to conform to their ideals. If you don’t want to be told how to behave on the smallest, pettiest level, then don’t bother with this stuck up ass seat of a hole in the wall. Also they seem to have added some other people’s drinks to my friend’s tab. Either that or 5 beers costs $ 80 at this dump.

We came here while visiting a friend in town and we all liked this bar. It reminded me of bars I would go to back in Tn. I didn’t care for the smoke, but it wasn’t too bad. Local beers were good and reasonably priced and bartenders were friendly. I would go back!

One of my personal favorite bars. Low-key, dark, smoky(but not nearly as smoky as some some of the more melodramatic Unilocalers are saying). It’s divey, but also eclectic. It isn’t anything super special, but it’s a great spot for meeting good friends and a great bar to drink alone at.(People usually leave you alone/the male patrons here aren’t usually too creepy.) The patio is great when the weather is nice, but it does close down 10 – 15 before last call, so sneak inside and grab a table before the crowd follows. The bathrooms are usually v clean. One pool table, a few booths, tables, and two lounge corners. Just an all around great place to hang out.

My friend had heard good things so we stopped by one night — and stayed. I didn’t notice the owl memorabilia — but that might be a positive. In a tipsy state, my slight fear of birds could be more pronounced. My preference on bars is non smokey, my years in Dallas really spoiled me. Boiled Owl is super smokey so I definitely kept to the small patio off the front. They were hosting a high school reunion group this night, so I’m told this was WAY busier than normal. After I ordered my drink, the bartender also suggested an alternative in a super friendly and conversational way. I took her up on the suggestion the second round and was happy how it worked out. I guess I’ve grown used to bartenders just sliding over drinks to me without a word, but this friendly interaction really stuck with me! I’m down for another visit as we explore more of Magnolia!

Some nights I sit at home all alone drinking beer or whiskey and quickly realize I could be doing this same thing in the comfort of a dark bar with amazing bartenders and great movies on the TV. So I put on pants — walk down the street a few block and smile as I enter Boiled Owl and I’m hit with a strong waft of cigarette smoke and bad decisions. I feel like I am still at home… only there are friendly people around me… and I am wearing pants. I’m always surprised to see what’s playing on the TV’s…it could be Troll 2 or Hot Rod or Rambo or Anne of Green Gables… well I’ve never actually seen them play Anne of Green Gables… but I wouldn’t mind it if they did. If you want to get away from the spray tans and dude bros and want to be treated like family while enjoying affordable drinks… then you should definitely check out Boiled Owl Tavern. Incredible beer selection, the friendliest bar staff and an atmosphere that feels like home. I highly recommend the leather chairs in the front corner, they’re comfy and there is a brontosaurus lamp to keep you company if you’re alone.

First time to go and overall it was the basic hipster version of a dive bar. Kitchy décor, like a dog’s face on the head of Napoleon. Great drinks. My Cherry Vodka sours were spot on and two did the trick. I liked the Trivial Pursuit at the tables, it made for a fun time when conversation might have lagged. The only reason I gave it 3 stars versus 4 is because of the smoke. Its a smaller place and so any little bit was trapped in the entire bar. Restrooms were clean and service was dandy!

Meh. Run of the mill smoky dive bar, nothing special. Drinks were priced right, and the bartender was ok to talk to. I would not go out of my way to go here, but if in the area, I may stop in for another PBR. They did have a great jukebox selection of tunes. Place is low key, everyone minds their biz.

Stopped in tonight for their first official night of business to regular folk(like me!), located right next to Yucatan Taco Stand. Observations: Good Beer Selection, Super friendly staff, good jukebox, it’s on Magnolia and… wait for it… TRIVIALPURSUITCARDSATTHETABLES. That’s the most genius idea I’ve ever heard of. It’s changed the way I will heretofore look at taverns. Everywhere I go from now on, I’m going to be like, «yeah, you’re cool and all, but you don’t have trivial pursuit cards at your tables, so…» The only bee in my bonnet here is that it’s non-non-smoking(see what I did there? It means smoking). But so is almost every other place in this town. Maybe it makes me a difficult customer, but I’ve started to opt out of non-music venue places that allow smoking as my consideration number one or two because of, well, the smoke. It just is such a big difference. But your own mileage may vary on that. Anyway, but, but… trivial pursuit.
