awesome fruit tart. theres a chocolate layer on the bottom so the crust doesn’t get soggy. genius! pretty cheap too about $ 12 compared to whole foods fruit tart for about double that cost. donuts are not bad for the price. never tried any other cakes. fruit tart is the winner! keep stocking up the fruit tarts!

The french and sourdough baguettes are very good especially when they are still hot. I buy them hot and it’s nice that Safeway bakes them fresh several times during the day.

This review is just for the donuts, which aren’t bad. If you go in the morning, they’re plenty fresh, and there is a wide selection, but they’re a little dense for my liking. However, I’m a repeat customer based on the bargain-basement prices, and the convenience(I haven’t found anywhere else in Foster City to get donuts).

First of all it’s hard to find someone in the floral and bakery dept. that speak and understand English! My parents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past Saturday 2÷23÷13 and I ordered the cake on 2÷2÷13. Since it was a Golden Anniversary I specifically asked for Gold flowers and writing on the cake and I was told that they could do it no problem. The reason I went to this bakery was because I was told my many that they had delicious cakes and could decorate the cakes anyway a person requested. I called on 2⁄15 to verify they had my order and the person on the telephone couldn’t speak very good English or understand what I was asking. I asked for a fax machine to fax a sketch of how I wanted the cake to look but they had none so I had my my mother in law bring it to the bakery on 2⁄20. On Friday 2⁄22 I called around 4:30p to order some yellow roses and the florist couldn’t speak good English either and when I asked to transfer me to the bakery she couldn’t do that. When I did get a person in the bakery she couldn’t understand what I wanted even with the order in front of her so I tried calling the manager of the store and no one picked up so I started punching numbers for other departments and I finally got ahold of a person who could understand me, Henry in the meat department said the manager of the store had left for the evening but he would try to assist with my order. Henry went above a beyond by walking over to the bakery and talking to Su about my order and the biggest concern I had was not having yellow flowers on the cake which he tried to explain to her and I could hear the frustration in his voice when she wasn’t understanding what he was telling her. Finally after a few times of repeating it to her it looked like she understood what I wanted thanks to Henry. On 2⁄23 I arrived at the bakery around 8:30a to pick up the cake and when they opened the box I saw«YELLOWFLOWERS» NOT«GOLDFLOWERS» as I requested numerous times. Two women in the bakery tried to be smart by saying we don’t do Gold and I said then I should have been told that when I ordered the cake. I was upset and frustrated and my voice was getting loud, so the manager of the bakery dept. stepped in and said I can do gold flowers right now while you wait. Luckily I had more shopping but before that I went to thank Henry and told him the cake was wrong and he apologized. I asked what store manager is on duty, he said Eric so I went to customer service and asked for him. When Eric the manger came to see what I wanted he never smiled, never said hello, I had to hold out my hand to shake his and introduce myself. While I was explaining about the bakery and how upset I was at them getting the order wrong he never gave me eye contact and never said he was sorry. When I was done talking to him he said OK and walked away instead of walking back to the bakery to see what was taking place to fix my order and what went wrong. During my conversation with Eric I did praise Henry in the meat department on what a great job he did in trying to assist me. When I finally picked up the cake the roses were a tan color not gold but at least they tried. Something to think about, if you have a big event and need a specific cake that’s not in their catalog don’t order one from this bakery.

The ladies in this bakery rock! On several occasions I have requested custom icing on bday/sports team treats and these ladies have never let me down. I went in very, very last minute yesterday & they iced 48 brownie bites for me on the spot. Sooo helpful! Also the quality of the work & the taste/freshness gets kudos too! I highly recommend!

Who would have thought a chain store Bakery would be so good? I sure as hell didn’t! It appears to go really overlooked too with many people opting to go for the fancy shmancy bakeries when you can get something just as good(if not better) here when you do your grocery shopping. Although the Grocery store is pretty crappy the bakery section is quite the opposite for a few reasons: — Large selection of Breads, Cake’s, Cookies, Donuts and Pastries. — Very reasonably priced and if you are a clubcard member you also get additional deals. — Always kept pretty well stocked. More-so on the weekdays but if there is something not on display(during the weekend) they will almost certainly have more out the back. Just ask. I mainly come here for the fresh bread rolls or a sneaky treat for hubby but have been known to get the odd cake or pie from here when I either cannot be bothered to make it at home or just don’t have the time. The quality of a lot of the items are better than some of the other hyped up bakeries on Unilocal and for as much as a quarter of the price. I also love that you can order cakes and pies to be collected on any day of the week even Thanksgiving and Christmas morning! Which I have done myself and made cooking that huge meal so much less stressful knowing the dessert was already taken care of. Mmmm… Since writing this I’m now craving a slice of the yummy Strawberry Coconut Cake. It’s delicious!
