Had a chimichanga steak wife had a steak torta small side order of warm chips and salsa comes with the orders. Chimichanga came to table after approx 15 min after order. Chimichangas meat was vert tastey with Mexican cheese extreamly good beans and rice on the side. Torta the same meat cheese lettuce sour cream tomatoe .nice crisp on the bread. Also very good. Portions size neither me or my wife could finish to much food. Bill for all this was 20 $ with a tip. What a deal. Hope this place sticks around was very good for a little strip mall resturant, the one negative on this place is no bathroom not even sure if that’s code. But food was still good

Went here on a whim for lunch and didn’t really know what to expect. I was starving and in need of a quick, cheap meal. I’ve frequently driven past the strip mall this restaurant is located in and have never noticed it… I urge you to not make the same mistake! Upon entering, there was a menu on the wall laying out all of the food options. What struck me was how reasonably priced the items were and I wondered what I’d be looking at proportion-wise. When I was asked to take a seat for dine-in, I was kind of on the fence since I wasn’t expecting a wait service type deal and was hoping for more of a quick, counter service operation given the layout… but, the meal came out quick! The food was delicious. The burrito suizo dinner was beyond filling and left just enough for another meal via leftovers. The ingredients were fresh and the salsas and ranchero sauce were clearly homemade and not the same bottled ones you’ll find at some corner-cutting establishments. The chips and salsa(pico) that was brought out was equally as homemade and delicious as everything else. The waitress(who was also the cashier and working take out orders) never missed an opportunity to fill drinks and was able to navigate all of her duties even with a packed house. I can’t wait to come back and try something different… but, it’ll be hard to turn down that burrito suizo!

This is our go-to Mexican food place. There is not a lot of seating available, but enough for a few small groups of people. They specialize mostly in take-out. They have yet to make a take-out menu, so unless you know the place(or can look at the Unilocal menu pictures), you may have issues ordering. Our favorites are the chicken nachos and chicken quesadillas. We might like chicken a lot. ;)

What a nice little surprise! You never know what you are going to get when you stop in a little burrito shop. I was in Fox Lake visiting a friend and decided to stop in Carlo’s Grill for bite. I had a steak burrito and a cheese quesodita. I know very boring… but. I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. Very fresh ingredients and tasty. I would definitely come back.

Oh yeah. Hefty servings, spicy salsa, great prices. I love swinging by here the beans are oh so delicious. They also recently put money in the restaurant, it has plush seating n new menus. The owner Carlos is a very nice man too.

First time here. Moved here from AZ and haven’t had really good Mexican food in awhile until I came here!!! I had the chicken enchilada(the flavor on the enchilada was amazing) and I had the beef tamale. Very very good!!!

We as a family go there often. REAL food cooked and served properly. Family run business is always my choice. Keep local money in the community. Well done

I work near here so I go here a lot for lunch. The food is served fast and tasted really good. I recommend everything I have tried here which is their Mexican fried ice cream, tamales, chimichangas, and burritos. With the dinner option you get re-fried beans and Mexican rice. I usually don’t like that kind of rice and beans but at Carlos’ I eat all of it and love it. Whatever their recipe is they got it right! I get a vegetarian burrito with avocado and their tamales are made with pork. The best tamales I have ever had btw!

As a Texan, moving to Illinois has forced me to come to terms with the lack of quality Mexican Food I’ll find. It’s been a struggle so far but we’re getting through. With that said, Carlos’s in Fox Lake is the best Mexican Food establishment I’ve found up here thus far. Thanks to another Unilocal review, I went for the steak burrito combo. I wish that the burritos had been packed with some more extras as it felt a little thin. But the steak was really good and it came with rice and beans to complete the meal. The staff was really friendly when we picked the food up. They don’t have to-go menus or an online menu so I snapped a picture or two to try and help those who are ordering to pick up.

Seriously, if you’re within 30 minutes of this place and have a taste for Mexican. Go! Had the steak burrito dinner. 3 mini burrito with cheese and grilled onions, rice and beans. Unbelievable Guacamole. And the chips and salsa were great. The beef tacos were huge and tasty.

I agree with everyone who gave this place a stellar review. The salsa is as straight up fresh and delicious as everyone says. Chunky and full of flavor. I ordered the ground beef chimichanga, and my sister got the steak tacos — which she raved about. The rice was nicely flavored with chicken broth and the refried beans were terrific. My chimi was fried perfectly, not the slightest bit greasy. I got the regular size, and it was huge. Had a dab of guac on it. I’ll have to get an order of it next time. Unlike some authentic Mexican restaurants in the Round Lake Area, Carlo’s food isn’t spicy — perfect for the«American» palate without being bland. They do offer dishes that bring the heat, but I’ll leave those for those adventurous folks! Place is cute, clean, good parking. Can’t wait to go again and work my way through the menu.

I stumbled upon this little gem when I was hunting for a Mediterranean restaurant that used to be in the same location. The chicken flautas with rice and beans which were delicious and the flautas were made fresh to order. Liked the salsas and they could have been a bit spicier. The portions were large and I ended up bringing ½ back to work to lunch the next day. Free chips and salsa were provided while I waited for my food. Yummy. Couldn’t believe how reasonable the prices were. Will definitely be back. As for the bathroom issue that folks mentioned. That issues does concern me because the same sign was up when I went. It seemed very weird. Aren’t restaurants required by law to have facilities that customers can use? And if it was really broken, where the heck to the workers go?
