We had dinner recently on a weekday evening and our meal was satisfactory. The salad bar is well stocked with fresh ingredients. We had the fried pork chop and country frid steak, mostly to try something different. If you can restrain yourself at the salad bar, the portions are managable. The only flaw was that the oil in the deep fryer was slightly burnt. This can happen for a number of reasons, like overuse, insufficient filtering, using a lot of flour based breadings, frying pork and beef, and poor temp regulation. Mostly, after several days, the oil should be replaced because frying pork chops stresses the oil. And this was the special. By the way, the only remake on this is to clean the fryers and restart, and it is not a quick process. It was not bad enough to complain. The sweat potato casserole had added brown sugar. My dinner companion had asked that it not be covered with sugar. The white and brown gravies were good, the mashed potatoes seemed to be freshly mashed, but I have been deceived before. In all, it is worth another try on another visit to Frankfort. Just avoid a second trip to the salad bar. Eat well, tip well.

This place is great. Service was good and so was the food. We live close and came when they first opened and weren’t impressed. Much better now, especially the salad bar.

Food is okay but overpriced for what you get. Service is a hit or miss. Lacks atmosphere. The place needs something. Maybe a way to keep people fro walking out.

This is what a restaurant should be like. We came in on a Sunday right before noon. We were seated promptly and our server greeted us almost immediately. She was incredibly friendly and professional. The atmosphere was inviting(though just a little on the«too warm» side). We ordered our food and the server brought it out within minutes. The food was delicious and the portions were just right. My glass was never empty(3 refills). The price is on point. We will certainly be back here!

On our way down south we stopped in the Shepardsville location– good food and our waitress April was the best! Our glasses were never empty and April’s friendly service made a long day of driving seemingly melt away! Thank you Cattleman’s for serving good food and thank you April for the great service. When I come back this way I will make it a stop.

All together very unimpressed. The food was mediocre as was the service. The food was not flavorful, my steak was very chewy and tough. The only redeeming quality was the salad bar. But for the price to eat here I should at least get a steak fit to eat

I would rate this higher for the steak alone, but I can’t excuse the rest. We were shown to a booth… I’m a table guy but they were all taken by parties of a gazillion. The seats were still wet from being wiped down. Service was fairly prompt. We all ordered the special and an appetizer to share. Decent beer selection. Here’s where it fell apart… the special included a salad bar trip, okay. Our appetizer was already cooling on the table before we got back with our salads. Seriously, can you not wait to bring out appetizers until the salads are finished? Same thing with entrees. Listen, clear the table of salad and appetizer plates and give your customers a chance to chat and savor their course before shoving another plate in front of them! The steaks were cooked perfectly. I wished that was the only thing I ordered.

My burger was pretty good. I tried the Henry Bains burger. My only complaint about it was the smell of the tobacco onions. I kept getting whiffs of nasty, and I couldn’t figure out where from. It was the onions. They didn’t taste bad at all, but lord did they stink! I’m not sure what they do to them, but I burped them later and about gagged. As I said, they didn’t taste bad, they were pretty good, they just stink. My meat was cooked, but not to the point of dessication. The bun and the toppings were fresh and tasty. Now, they DID bring out some stale grocery store brand hamburger buns and called them rolls by way of table bread while we were looking at the menus. That had me worried and I almost didn’t order a burger because of it. I’m happy to report that my burger was on a fresh brioche bun, which is also good news for them because I would have sent that stale crap back to the kitchen. You can’t really bitch when its free, but I was expecting better. Even the Golden Corral can produce a decent roll for crying out loud, but I digress. Service was acceptable, and overall the meal was good. It was a bit on the expensive side, and there were quality issues, but overall my experience was good and I would go back for another meal there without fussing.

Here we go… There was no wait to be seated at noon on Saturday, which I guess should have told me something. The hostess was friendly enough and told us about the daily special while seating us. My husband commented about a strange smell in the restaurant. After ordering drinks, which by the way, the sweet tea was perfect, looked over the menu. The menu was as expected, although the prices were much higher than other similar restaurants in the area. We decided on $ 10 specialty steakhouse burgers all around. Another refill of that wonderful tea, and a generous bucket of sort of warm yeast rolls with cinnamon butter. They were needed for the rather lengthy wait for the entrée. It arrives! I was excited by the presentation as you have a large heap of well seasoned fries, a toasted bun cradled the mound of crispy bacon slices and blanket of melted cheese. So we put our lids on our burgers and took the first bite… Utter dissapointment! Under all that wonderfull was the hardest, most overcooked FROZENPATTY I have ever had the misfortune of tasting. We all agreed we should have went to steak and shake, at least their burgers are real meat.

We dined on a Sunday evening and took advantage of the 2 for $ 22 deal. For $ 22, we got 2 entrees both with 1 side and unlimited salad bar. I love that they have a salad bar as those are few and far between anymore. I was full before my steak even arrived. I ordered my steak Med. Rare and it was cooked perfect but it just didn’t have a ton of flavor, which was disappointing. The rolls here aren’t anything special, but they are served with cinnamon butter which saves them! For the price, I’d eat here again. Heck I’d eat here again just for the salad bar!

This place has a great salad bar, I don’t even like potato salad & theirs is great! Steak was good. Excellent sweet tea. Rolls need work but all in all a great place to stop. Super nice staff also.

I was traveling for business and happened to be staying across the street, the place was busy but I was seated immediately. The weekly special was tender tips with a side and salad bar. The salad bar was good, fresh and was always being refilled. The tender tips were very small and not tender, and also dry. The overall portion size was unacceptable 5 little pieces of meat that tasted more like liver than tender tips, thankfully the salad bar was unlimited to fill the void. I am not sure if I would return there during my stay to try anything else, but I was very disappointed in the taste and size of their special tender tips.

Everything was amazing. Food, service, and price was all good. The steak was cooked perfect and a great seasoning on the shrimp. The salad bar was a cheap add on and was good.

We ate at Cattlemen’s twice during the Derby weekend this past week. Being from TX, we didn’t know where to go and this place was right across from our hotel. Megan was a terrific, friendly server. The food was great and the prices a very good value. I expected a «chain» type restaurant, and yes it was a casual atmosphere but still very nice and clean. If you want good service and good food, go there.

We had excellent service and prices are reasonable for steak house. We had the Friday special which was Bourbon Glazed steak. Also included one side and salad bar. salad Bar is very well kept, was impressed with quality of salad bar. Nothing had been sitting for too long. Would highly recommend this place and will be back. Oh and we got Rolls right away and no issues getting them.

Service was mediocre at best and the food was horrible. My filet had the consistency of cardboard with too much black pepper. Will not be back.

Don’t believe the negative reviews! This place does have a «roadhouse» atmosphere but the food is definitely on par with the finest. Waitresses are very attentive but at times seemed harried but very friendly. Strip steak was fantastic and cooked as advertised(read the menu descriptions: these are what you would expect from top grade national Restaraunt). Saturday night is noisy and busy: seemed family friendly. Bourbon steak glaze is good and rolls were actually memorable. Silk pie is YUM!

I have reviewed this place before and loved it there. I thought it was the best service and they really knew how to take care of you. Well I have a warning for those who patronize this location. Do not let John be your server. Last night went there with my Family from Chicago for my birthday. I did this knowing this was the one place I have not had bad service at any time in the 12 previous visits. Then there was John. Well 8 minutes after being seated we got the fly by Hello be right back. 3 minutes after he took drink orders. The drinks came in a bit of time and we were promised rolls. Drinks came, rolls not so much. Went to the Salad Bar(which is still so well maintained, very happy with selection and cleanliness) and finished salads. Still no rolls. Still no John. After seeing about 6 other tables get rolls we flagged John down and said that they just got slammed and the rolls would be 20 minutes. I question this explanation as there were 9 tables empty in my view from my comfortable wooden chair. We let this slide and then I saw 3 more table get rolls. The entrees then came out and we asked about the rolls again. He said he would have to check because they take a LONG time to make. I mentioned the other tables and pointed to them, and he went silent. My neice got apple sauce and was given a soup spoon. A 2 year old given a soup spoon. We asked for a smaller spoon and he actually said that they only have 2 teaspoons for tea and he would look for one. Two tea spoons for an entire restaurant. Then he brings a dirty tea spoon(which looked like he pulled it our of the dirty dish rack) and sighed(yes he sighed) when we brought this to his attention. He came back again, yep you guessed it, dirty spoon. The third attempt I think he actually looked around and found a clean one. We were there for a little over 90 minutes which is not too bad for a social group. I think being lied to by our server really messed up the celebration as it was mentioned several times throughout the remainder of the night. I will be back to this location but I will be sure to make sure John is not my server.

Overpriced for what you get. Salad is extra. And place seemed dirty. Steak tastes frozen. I would not go again.
