Steak ‘n Shake

This is definitely one of the better Steak ‘n Shake locations I’ve visited. We did come here at a non-​busy time (6pm on a Wednesday) which might skew the review, but had a great experience. We were seated immediately, and our server was very attentive. The food came out very quickly which was appreciated, and we were in and out of there under an hour. Food was hot and fresh, and the milkshake was delish. Place was clean. Would definitely come here again!

Restaurant is unclean and poorly run. Chili was served cold and returned to customer by staff after microwaving, product was outside of the bowl. Food was marginal. No supervision of staff was observed. Staff did not remove used tableware after customers departed. Washroom was a mess. We will not return.

If you must have a fast food hamburger, this is the place that you should try. The service is great, the servers are friendly and take your order without writing it down, they do it from memory. The place is always clean inside and outside, no papers or trash littering the area. Decorated in the style of the 50’s and the staff in uniforms that are clean and tidy. Now, about the food, the menu is extensive with burgers, hot dogs and other wonderful sandwiches and dinners. They have just started to serve breakfast as well but they are known for their burgers and shakes. We have tried different things on the menu like their chili and the vegetable beef soup. They have various types of chili such as Cincinnati Chili which is worth a try after you try the burger or get both the burger and chili to make a chili burger with onions and cheese, delish. Speaking of delish, the shakes and malts, yes malts, are divine. The list of shakes is endless and they will add more flavoring if you ask, more chocolate, SURE, no problem. If you want your shake thick or thin, they will accommodate you, unlike the watered down shake that you get at the other fast food chains which are tasteless and colorless, you know who I am talking about. Now about the burger… you will see your burger being placed down on the grill, fresh burger meat, not frozen, used along with the shoestring fries and the shake is the best burger meal any where. Do yourself a favor and give this burger place a try, it is better then most. No, it is not a ten dollar hamburger but it is a fast food burger served hot, freshly cooked and it has a good taste to the burger. Get the Meal Deal, it is the double hamburger, fries and a drink, the price is right. People, this is not fine dining so try not to be so picky.

I’m from San Diego but visiting family and ate lunch here today. I hadn’t been to a Steak and Shake for years, and while the food was good, the service was exceptional. A special call out for our server, Cam. He was polite and engaging, thorough and made the dining experience fun.

This place is really hit or miss. My friends and I used to go here after high school football games/​events because the food is good and it’s one of the only places open late, but depending on the waiter you have sometimes the experience is really horrible. Last time we came here, we had a party of 6 and they forced us to squeeze into a booth because they just cleaned the tables and didn’t want to inconvenience themselves. The waiter, who’s name was Rich, was openly rude to us, slow on serving us even though the place wasn’t busy (it was about 10:30 at night) and he gave us cold fries. There’s been other times when we came here though and the waiter was super chill and funny. It’s really hit or miss with this place but I’m sad to say mostly misses, which sucks because I love the food.

This is a great Steak and Shake. When I’m in the area, this is my go-​to place.
The service is great! The food comes quick, and the waitresses are very friendly. The waitress I had had a smile on her face, and she felt like she liked her job.
The steakburgers and shakes are really good! The double garlic steakburger is heaven. The garlic and the parties make the whole thing perfect. I also tried the Double Fudge Brownie shake. It was filled with chocolate, and it tasted really good! The ice cream here never disappoints!
All in all, this is the best Steak and Shake I have been to! I will be back!

I am addicted to the Nutella shake! I went for the shake, and my husband wanted the fresh baked cookies. They were out of both.
This isn’t the first time. Maybe you should call first.

We walked in to eat breakfast at 8:35 in the morning and the place was so dirty. Asked the waiter for silverware and he gave me a spoon. Time before that I got hair in my food.

I like this place… decent food, good prices, service is good… but, they need to get into the 21^st century! Wifi is needed! plug sockets along the walls are needed for electronic devices! The top management needs to think about this stuff.

I’m not sure if this places qualifies as ‘fast food’ when it takes 15 mins. for the server to come over to your table. I was seconds away from getting up and walking out the door to a cleaner and better operating establishment further down south on La Grange. I agree with the other reviewers, this place appears to be run by rejects from Boys Town. Very unprofessional and no management supervision in sight. On our last visit, the dining room wasn’t all that busy but some how our server managed to mess up our drink order and then one of of 3 food orders. Even though my kids like this place, I think it will be a long while before we go back.

I don’t expect much from the food when I come here, I just do when my pockets are a little heavy and I need to feel bad about myself. Steak n Shake is the only restaurant I know that actively employs the socially disabled, but I had this waiter named Bort. All I can say is… he tried so hard. However, I can only tolerate so many sexual advances, regardless of the mental state of the employees. He served my friend applesauce with a soup spoon. A SOUP SPOON. I can’t handle that. I’m never returning to this location as long as I live. I’m too afraid to see Bort again.
Also, I recently asked if I could simply get my fries in a to-​go cup, and he simply ran away without giving me so much as an answer. I’m thoroughly upset with this location and this franchise.

This place is run by kids. They are in the kitchen making loud comments about customers and taking their sweet time bringing out your food. We witnessed our server on more than one occasion go get herself a beverage to drink and go in the back room to drink it while our food sat in the window getting cold. The manager seemed to care but had no control over the staff and you could hear her complain out loud while all the customers turned their heads and tried to enjoy their food. The cooks clothes were filthy and left the bathroom wiping his hands on his apron which he wore to the restroom. The place needs a deep cleaning as it smells like an old dirty cafeteria that cannot get clean anymore. It really a shame the place is nice and close for us and buy judging the food at other locations would be a great local place to visit for an economical meal if not for the poor management.

Nothing about this particular location, but the late night greasy spoon of last resort. Ugh.

Love this location! I’m a Steak n Shake fan and this one does it best. A great indicator of a good Steak n Shake is how they serve the chili, is it a solid glob, or does it have a half inch of grease floating on the surface? They do it right, even though I live much closer to the Tinley Park location, I drive further to go here. TAKE A HINT TINLEY PARK LOCATION!!!

I take the kids here for 2 – 1 ice cream between the hours of 2 – 4 pm. Kids like the ice cream. I like the burgers a little. The fries are ok. Service is usually good and the place is clean.

Just your average greasy burger, nothing special here. The food is usually delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Be prepared to wait longer for a shake though. Don’t bother ordering guacamole with your salad though; for the $ 1 extra you get a tiny plastic container with maybe 1.5 teaspoons of guacamole.

Love the way the management practically massages me while I eat, they’re always so attentive, so lovely, so sultry…
Steak N’ Shake is a chain, but this Frankfort location is done right: The food is hot, the ice is cold, the bathrooms are clean, the servers are smiling, and the best part: It’s open til’ 1am. Just like every fucking location in Frankfort! But for some late munching, this SnS delivers quality and promptness. Hell, one time they gave me some soggy fries, I asked the manager (Mike) why they were soggy, he said the potatoes were ripe, and quickly replaced them with fresh, straight fries that were oh so synonymous with Steak N’ Shake.
It’s like Cheers without the booze. Really.

Reasons to come here:
The fries are good and they are open late, really late.
There must be other reasons. Let’s think.
The ketchup is fresh
Good supply of oxygen
Excellent view of traffic on LaGrange Road
The ice is frozen
If it is really really late, you will be glad they are open. Otherwise, I would recommend Culvers.

I tried this place because it was a chain that I could not find in California. I saw the commercial and was interested.
I order the chicken fingers meal with fries and a drink. It is a little more expensive than other fast food places, but I liked the food.
The chicken tenders were not dry like other places. They did not feel oily in my hands and i was pretty moist from inside. I was actually surprised. The fries were probably the best part. They are like shoestring fries. Very thin and easy to eat. I can see a baby eating them very easily. They came in this cup that looked the bottom of a paper cup. I thought that was pretty cool.
If I lived in Illinois, I’d come back again.

Mediocre for a fast food establishment, the seating time is pretty good for a Friday night and I was greeted and seated immediately. The facility appears to be clean and in order. The food is okay and has decent taste, flavor and proper temperature; however it looks like they could up their portions size just a tad. They are very friendly and courteous.
