For ages and ages and ages, this section of the world was dry as a bone. Fellow would check into the local mistake, and realize there was simply no legal way to wet his whistle, guaranteeing a long thirsty East Texas night for the faint of heart. Thank God, that recently changed when the county went ‘wet’. Now, even us out-of-towners can relax with proof that God loves us, firmly grasped in our sweaty hand. «Fat Dog!» — As if saying the name wasn’t a toot, the place has a very good selection of most types of liquor and the grape libations; A surprising selection of wine, in fact. We saw a far greater selection of Becker Vineyards offerings in Fat Dog than we did at an earlier stop at another ‘discount’ store in New Braunfelds. And the prices were in line with the ‘discount’ store, as well. Speaking of prices: The savings are even greater if one presents his/her ‘Dog Tag’ and pays the tab with green cash or debit. The isles are wide enough to maneuver your shopping cart without undue fear of a costly crash, or an errant bumping of a spandex-clad isle hog. The lot is concrete paved, well-lighted and easy to access and exit. Okay, it’s not the biggest liquor store you’ll ever visit, but how often does the name of a store visited evoke a smile?(Okay, other than Vickie’s Secrets!) «Fat Dog!» Either the«First Oasis»; or the«Last Stop» before the Wilderness.

Tyler/Smith County is a dry county. So where do you go to get liquor? FATDOG! It’s like spec’s or twin liquors anywhere else. You can get a «dog tag» to get discounted prices.
