We were staying across the street from Cooper Creek Square and saw a notice for a wine and cheese tasting. Well, heck! says I! I like wine, and I was a bit peckish. And since I had just wiped out on the mountain and lost all my skies and poles, I thought this might be just the thing to take my mind off of my bruised body and fractured ego. The place is small but the space is maximized, there was enough room to have the samples and chat, and there are a few tables to allow for a private conversation whilst enjoying a sip and a nosh. For a tiny little spot, they put together a marvelous tasting! Two different kinds of cheeses to accompany two different wines, as well as some fine chocolate and a wonderful surprise — walnuts in the shell marinated in sugar water. WOW! I never would have thought that would have made such a great compliment to wine! They offer great discounts on bottles and cases during tasting hours, and the wares sold in the store are phenomenal as well. The ladies were friendly and knowledgeable, and I’ll be damned if I didn’t have a hard time leaving. If you’re in Winter Park, you should go!

Chill tasting room in downtown Winter Park in Cooper Creek Square. The owner, this witty and charming older lady, is always very friendly and personable every time you go in. Usually, she’s drinking a glass of wine and enjoying herself too while she entertains, which I have found to not be uncommon when visiting wineries! She recently sold her vineyard in Palisade and sad to say, is not making any more wine.(frowny face, indeed!) She did tell me, though, that she is stocked up with her previous vintages of the Cabernet that she made 2003 — 2006, and is pouring free tastes of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Verso is now carrying some newer wines from other smaller Colorado wineries that you can try for a $ 5 tasting fee,(you only get to try 3). This winery is a cool place to stop off and kill some time if you are in downtown Winter Park. It’s in my top 10 places to stop at every time I make a trip up to WP.
