Worst experience Ordered Egg biryani, asked 2 full eggs not to slice and got a 3 quarters of egg sliced. Don’t know the difference between veg Manchurian and gobi Manchurian(undercooked). This is not made by Indians this is Nepali restaurant and I advise don’t expect Indian type biryanis and flavors.

Sorry. best i can do here is «meh…» Lanb was dry on the smaller peices of the kabob and I think the chicken was worse. The rice was perfectly cooked and the Corona did not come with a lime.

Bad buffet, good dinner… Chicken was smelling yuck. horrible fruit salad. Veg curries was also bad. Not a place for lunch… never try lunch buffet… I tried mutton kurma, and dhal makkani for dinner, which was good… Nan bread is the best, softest and taste the best…

We’ve been coming here several times a year for a decade for dinner(never lunch buffet). The dining room is pleasant, not too noisy. A good place for a couple’s night out. Don’t think the menu prices have gone up in at least 5 years. A combination plate(really a platter) is enough for 2, about $ 16. Get appetizer, big entrée, rice, and naan. Most entrees are in the $ 12 range. Lamb is always good, Biriani is excellent. Mango lassi and iced tea are excellent. I think the same gentle nice man has served us for a decade. And no, he doesn’t stink. It is not a rush, rush, noisy place. There always seems as much takeout as sit-in customers, they enter pathway to the side rather than through dining room. Portions are large without costing $ 20 each, a rare find. Never a bad preparation, though some dishes we didn’t care for.

Checked out this restaurant based on the Unilocal reviews, and I was not disappointed. It is located in a strip mall, and the outside looked underwhelming, but don’t let that fool you. The food is some of the best Indian I have eaten in this area, and I’ve tried my fair share of Indian restaurants. I ordered the Aloo Saag and asked for it to be made spicy, and unlike many restaurants that hold back on the spice, they really came through. The raita was thick and creamy, and freshly made. The portions were large enough that both myself and my boyfriend had plenty of delicious food to take home. I am often disappointed with the quality of other Indian restaurants, but this one is on the top of my list to check out again the next time I’m in Frederick!

My friend and I stopped in for the lunch buffet. I was super excited because they had matter paneer on the buffet and that’s my absolute favorite Indian dish and it’s almost never on lunch buffets. The problem was that all of the food was watery. I had the vegetable korma, chicken tikka masala and the matter paneer and there was so much liquid on my plate that it was making my naan soggy. It was almost like they were trying to stretch the sauce by watering it down. It had an ok spiciness level, but whatever they did to make it so liquidy cancelled out most of the flavor. I’ve never had to add salt to my Indian food before today. The samosas were ok. The naan was really fresh, but a little undercooked. We were sad because we wanted to love it, but it just wasn’t happening. The staff is very nice though, it’s a shame the food isnt.

Very good food. Tandoori chicken was tender and flavorful. Naan was some of the best I’ve ever had.

I have eaten from the buffet a few times. Each region of India has it’s own very distinct style of cooking. Having lived there for some time, I can say that the cooking here has a strong Nepalese influence. I can’t personally classify this as a pure Indian restaurant. I have had most of the vegetarian offerings and nothing really took me back to my time in India. The naan was okay. The pakoras were good. Samosa was not. Overall, the food is okay. Nothing spectacular. Not bad. Just middle of the road average. If you want pure Indian flavor I would look elsewhere. The place is clean and the staff is nice. Not so sure I would have a spoon of the mukhwas by the door on the way out. Looked to have been there for a while.

I love love love this place! Everything is always bursting with flavor ! The naan is super fresh too. Their goat is just so tender! Really I don’t think there will be anything bad I could ever say about this place. This hole in the wall is right up there with the best of them. Try the rabbit saag! ANDTHEMANGOLASSI!

As far as Indian Food goes the Clay Oven is probably my absolute favorite in all of the Mid-Atlantic region. Hidden away in a small strip mall in Frederick MD the clay oven offers a very affordable lunch buffet with all the classic dishes, and a few others. This establishment is owned by a husband and wife who are extremely nice, and very accommodating to your needs. I wouldn’t eat at any other Indian place in Frederick as long as the Clay Oven is around! If you want great Indian food with Great friendly service then you want the Clay Oven.

I love Indian food and when I moved to the area I was so excited to see this place just down the street. My husband and I have gotten take out from here a few times and it has gotten better each time. Some of our favorites are the Samosas. We have had the veggie and chicken and both were great. We also love the chicken tikka and chicken marsala as well as their soups. Another grrat thing about this place is how fast the food comes and they are always friendly!

Awesome Indian food. Very clean, nice décor. I’ve been for both the buffet and regular dinner, and both experiences were positive. My only complaint is that it doesn’t seem overly friendly in here. The owner isn’t very talkative, and considering the place is small enough to where there doesn’t really need to be a wait staff(he usually comes and takes drink orders and food orders himself), so having a more upbeat personality would be welcoming. But at the end of the day, it’s all about the cuisine. And Clay Oven hits the nail on the head with that. My personal recommendation would be the Butter Chicken curry. Certainly a gem in Frederick, and I’d recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Indian food. I just hope they continue to do well considering they don’t have the most desirable location in the world. But I’d still go out of my way to go there. Overall, 5⁄5

Unpretentious place with good food. This was my first time eating Indian food so I decided to go with what many reviewers recommended. So I had the butter chicken and although it was good, I don’t know why anyone would rave so much about it. It could have been just a tad bit more tender and that may have made the difference. It was in a spicy. creamy sauce which was good. Someone said the garlic naan was a must so I tried that but it was kind of blah, and almost no taste of garlic whatsoever. My husband had a lamb dish that he liked although he probably should have ordered the spiciness down one notch. We both loved the basmati rice — not like regular rice at all, almost a bit sweet and so delicate. I’ve made basmati rice before at home but it has never tasted like that! I have always wanted to try a mango lassi and I finally had my opportunity. Now THAT was delicious! It was rather small, though. We are from NJ but my husband works in MD during the week and the Clay Oven is less than a mile away from his apartment. I would definitely go back and try other items, maybe even the buffet. We went on a Friday night and my theory is that service and quality are never as good on weekends as weekdays just because restaurants are busier. Not that the service wasn’t good — the staff was very pleasant and the restaurant was not too busy at all but I did see a few people picking up orders so maybe that’s why the naan was disappointing and the chicken in the butter chicken tasted just a tad overdone.

First time coming here. Two of us split the butter chicken and the lamb curry. Took recommendations from Unilocal and the food was great. Portion didn’t seem too much but We ended up having left. This place is definitely authentic and you get to listen to people talking in, I’m assuming Indian the entire time.

I ordered takeout(through Unilocal) and LOVED it! I have had all sorts of Indian food — some good, some not so good, some cooked by Indian friends that was delicious — but this blew them all away. The garlic naan is out of this world! Vegetable samosas and chicken tikka makhani were delicious as well. I also had gulab jumun and mango lassi, neither of which I have ever tried before so I have nothing to compare them to — but I can tell you they were both very yummy. I would absolutely eat here again — and probably will every time I am in Frederick!

GETTHEBUTTERCHICKEN. Then order something else just to try /share it, but you’ll wish you ordered 2 butter chickens. Thankfully, their portions are large enough to share with 2 or 3 people. Their naan is also awesome. The garlic and coconut ones are amazing. The owners are nice and appreciative of the business too.

Came here for dinner and was happy to find an Indian restaurant I really enjoyed. The place itself is a bit rundown and could use some sprucing up, but the food is great. We got the paneer chili and malak paneer and both were very tasty. The portions were good and we had plenty to take home with us. The dishes were very flavorful and had a good amount if spice and went well with the yellow rice and naan. Will definitely be back and look forward to trying the buffet.
