Android and Google have a great application called Dealmap. It is a GPS based system that finds where you are and searches for restaurants and local businesses near where you are at that moment. The businesses market with dealmap to provide mobile coupons. It is pretty cool. I wanted chicken last night. I don’t really have a preference between KFC and Popeye’s-I just wanted drive through fast food Chicken. I pulled out the droid x2 to find the nearest chicken place on Unilocal, but remembered the dealmap application and thought a coupon might be nice, and lo and behold, there was a deal on dealmap for KFC just blocks away. 8 piece family dinner for 14.99. The drive through line was long. We ordered and got to the window, I started to show the cashier the coupon on the phone, which has a code on it, and not only did she not have any clue, she was rude and insistant that I was wrong and that the coupon had to be printed out. «I need the piece of paper» she kept insisting. She was surly and dismissive. In her case, it was apparent that SHE was right, and the customer was a moron. Thats how she treated us. Finally I asked for the manager, who simply stated that they did not participate in that program. So– The corporate or marketing department at KFC worked to have this mobile coupon and GPS direct you to a location that: 1) has no clue about the program or the coupon, 2) Treats you like an idiot and 3) does not do what would have been the right thing– to honor the coupon and call corporate to ask why they have not provided info about this. Off to Popeye’s we went– I refused to complete the order and pay full price with such horrible customer service. Popeye’s for chicken from now on. Might be a bit pricier without a coupon, but at least they treat you like you have some brain cells.
