My family has been using Kicks since 2010. My daughter is a few months shy of earning her black belt but has to have a foot surgery in December. I have to say that for a curriculum that includes spending a few minutes each day on building character and teaching the kids the way to be a good person that they let their money– loving– greed stand in the way of common sense. On Oct 19th I informed the manager that my daughter has to have surgery and that she was unable to wait until the spring as she hoped. I was directed to get a doctor’s note stating the date of the surgery and that her activities would be limited, which was delivered the very next day. Unfortunately, this measure was simply a delay tactic to keep me from issuing my notice that we would have to end our contract because tonight when I went in to complete the paperwork, I am being billed through December 15th(her surgery is December 8th). Essentially, I will be paying for her to train thru mid-January even though she will be unable to participate in sports until her issue is resolved. Apparently my doctor’s note was for nothing because I am still being required to pay for what I can not use. It makes me very disappointed to be treated this way after so long. When my daughter returns to karate practice once she heals, I will be looking for a new place. I am sure in the grand scheme of things the $ 140 they are getting from me for the extra month isn’t going to help them as much as it would help me with the medical bills I am facing. I won’t forget this callous treatment from a place I have patronized for so long, I encourage others to consider the character of this business before allowing them to lecture your own children.

Update*** In the interest of being fair, I wanted to update both my last review and my business rating for Kicks Karate. Bad news travels fast so I feel it’s my responsibility to make good news travel with equal speed. I was very happy to hear from not just the school manager today but also the COO of the company. One good thing and one great thing came of the communication. First, the good thing. In a world that becomes more automated every day, it was nice to hear from a person who genuinely cares about the business that he works for and who understands the meaning of being a value to his customer. Jim, the COO, reached out to me and informed me that he was aware of the issue and was now working to get it fixed. It was a breath of fresh air to have someone offer a solution to an issue rather then focusing on the problem and pointing the blame finger. Something I guess I expected. Anyway, I wanted to say a big thank you to Jim and Adam for their continued efforts to make Kicks a better and safer place to train. Now for the Great thing. Tinted windows are currently on the way! Thanks again guys for caring about what you do and for whom you do it. You are appreciated.
