I love TJ Maxx, but I was very disappointed with the manager at this particular location. There was a $ 300 linen wingback chair on the floor that I just loved. Unfortunately, there were some black marks on the back of the chair. I tried to wipe them off and I wet my finger and tried to see if maybe it was a simple scuff mark, but it wouldn’t come off. I really wanted the chair, but I am of the school that if you are going to pay full price for something brand new, it should look that way. Usually, in this situation, I would expect the manager to give a discount for the issue. When I presented the chair to the cashier, he agreed that the chair had an issue and that the manager would probably give me 10% off. When the clerk summoned the manager to the front, he looked at the back for one second and said, «looks like it just got scuffed and it will come right off.» As he was saying this, he was rubbing the marks and they were clearly NOT coming right off. Then he tells me, «well, it will probably be against a wall anyway so it won’t matter.» Really? Um no, the chair was supposed to sit in a bay window. So I finally just got down to it and asked, «will you give a discount for it, or am I supposed to take it all the way home, try to clean it, and then bring it back if it doesn’t come out?» His answer was yes, That I should get this big chair home, try to clean it, and then stuff it in my car again to bring it all the way back if it doesn’t come clean.

Very nice store. I don’t know if it’s the way the light reflects off the floor and walls or something but the flourescent lighting is almost welcoming, not harsh. Clothing is hit or miss. There’s an abundance of Juicy Couture which would’ve been great in 2003. 11 years later, not so much. Accessories are much better. Marc by Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Minkoff, and Michael Kors can be found. However, my fave score was a Nationals snuggie for $ 4. Can’t wait to take it to chilly spring games!

So, here I come again for more bargain finds and cheap thrills. I was able to find a nice 1000 thread count sheets for $ 9 and its not made in china! I found some plushy towels that were Egyptian cotton for like $ 7. I love shopping here because I dont feel like Im in the hood were everything is on the ground and thrown everywhere and some perfumes arent bolted down so I can sniff the scent to see if I like it or not. Lines are never long. The managers are nice unlike Germantown where the red headed manager once excused me of purposely taking an item off the shelf knownigly that the price was wrong! boy did I give her an earful on that! But yes, here you will find hidden gems! You just gotta look!

Imagine a world where mere mortal women, of all sizes, can dress exactly as they choose without worrying about their finances. Imagine a world where every woman is a fashionista, where every woman actually dresses and looks like a woman. This is that world — Well, as close as we mortals will ever achieve. TJ Maxx has pieces to suit every taste and every budget. Lets be real, budget does HAVE to enter into the mix, albeit much less than you can imagine. Yes, if you want to wear couture go to Neiman’s, a boutique, or to The Faubourg Saint-Honore’ district in Paris. If you want to wear designer pieces, get yourself here. Same designers, less money. Note — designers pieces, not couture! I was so sad to see yet another book store close, but I’m happy to see that the corporate heads of TJ Maxx realized the untapped niche in discount designer clothing for Frederick. This location is about the same distance from me as the Dulles location. The exception is the traffic factor which makes this a quicker trip. Head and shoulders above Ross and Marshall’s(both of which I enjoy a browse through from time to time). It’s just a totally different echelon of shopping. The store is clean; the merchandise is clean, complete, and organized; the staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. I’ll be back often. I’m trying to restrain myself to once a month, but I can’t be trusted on that. Yes, Neiman’s is still my favorite place to shop, but with discounts like these I will be here much more often.
