What happened to this place? Used to be a great place to get a really decent local beer and a great dinner. Now there’s hardly anything on the menu, and what’s there is just awful looking. The Cobb salad is a Cobb salad based on the name alone; certainly the ingredients don’t make it one. On top of that, they decided to have live entertainment right during dinner time(literally 6:00 — 9:00). Who wants to eat dinner with their significant other, barely able to hold a conversation due to the noise. This place used to be awesome. Now… I won’t be back… even though the beer is still pretty kick ass!

Great food. Try the cream of asparagus soup if they have it and the scallops were delicious. Hubby had strip steak. Service was good especially with Valentines weekend.

We stopped here on the way back from a road trip and are considering making the 4 hour drive from Virginia Beach more often! We started with the crab dip and ciabatta bread, which was amazing! I am a crab cake enthusiast, so while in Maryland I obviously indulged in a crab cake sandwich. Best one I have ever had! My boyfriend had a buffalo chicken wrap which he inhaled so fast, I was unsure if he actually ate any. He topped that off with one of the house beers that we can’t remember the name of, but the flavor was so distinct, I could pick it out of any tasting contest. I highly recommend Barley & Hops to anyone in the area or stopping by.

Second time here with the same result. We won’t be back. The food looks pretty on the plates, but service is graveyard slow and the food is mediocre at best. There were 5 of us for dinner and the place was not full, yet it took over a half hour from ordering for our meals to all arrive. One came early and one person had to wait. Two meals were tasteless salads, which were largely machine-chopped bag lettuce. The flat bread appetizer was more like a tortilla covered in huge gobs of cheese with some pieces of chicken, tomato, and red onion. The veggie burger was what you find in the frozen section of a grocery store and bland. The fries were over-cooked. The last time here we had burgers and fries. Again, the fries were heaped and just not good. The burgers were OK but overwhelmed by the buns. There are numerous better options in the area for a burger. The place looks nice and the beers were about the only saving graces. Applebee’s across the street has better food. This place wasn’t the worst but again, there are so many other places to go in the area, we see no reason to put up with the slow service and mediocre food.

Beer was really good, menu was limited. Food was ok. I ordered the crab cake and it was good. Very loud atmosphere. I expected better food choices because I’d heard such good things. If you like fried American fare, burgers and the usual salad selection, you may like it. Very little vegan, nothing with quinoa, limited fish and veggies. Service was very good.

Like another reviewer reported, I got sick after eating the fish tacos. Wish I’d seen that before I chose this restaurant. Friendly service, but so far no reply to the food safety issue I reported to them on their website form. I will never return.

The happy hour! The bartenders are so friendly and 50 cent wings on Thursday?! This place could totally be one of those pretentious places because of the look of the place, but it’s not. The food is also excellent!

Flat soda, ice cold fries, mediocre beer, and a sick husband after eating the fish taco. All that for $ 70. Yeah, won’t be coming here again.

I think this is underrated due to location, as it is in the Target parking lot. It is consistent and the prices are good. Great happy hour prices if you can go during that time and sit in the bar area, which isn’t crowded. The restaurant is kid and couple friendly– I like that tables aren’t on top of one another. You can hear yourself talk but don’t hear everyone else. We have always had good service. My favorite is prime rib nights. They have outdoor seating in the summer but you are in a parking lot so don’t expect a view.

Stopped in fora quick beer after we had dinner. I thought the place was decent but nothing I would go out of my way to come to again in the future. Beers seemed a little bit high priced. Appeared to be a locals hang out. Server was friendly. Seemed like an old pizza place that was converted into a microbrewery.

Went to listen to Bodine Brothers, who were great! Liked that they had entertainment from 6 – 9, good for us older folks! Food good! Service needs a little work. But I will say bartender stepped us and ended up taking very good care of us.

This is a great place to eat. Ordered the fried shrimp and it was amazing. The batter was overly done and the shrimp were a good size. We also had the veggie quesadilla but added chicken to it. Bother were very very good. The beer is great too. We had a pumpkin beer that was amazing. The only complaint is the noise. It is a very open place and can get very loud. Because it’s kid friendly there were a lot of kids and one was screaming bloody murder. The dessert made up for it though. Some type of chocolate cake that was so rich. Definitely will go back.

After a hike in Harper’s Ferry, we were looking for some good beer and American fare and this place delivered. Definitely order the Cajun Crab Dip! It had all the right flavors with a side of happiness. Felt big for just the two of us but is probably the right size snack for 3 people. My husband and I split the Bayou gourmet burger. It arrives undressed so you may want to top it with something… It was pretty unremarkable by itself, but adding the Chipotle ketchup to my burger made it a winner. Our server, Jake, was the best! He made a great beer recommendation, delivered our burger on two plates(since we were sharing), and was always checking in with us at exactly the right times. Beer was good, price was reasonable, and service was perfect. We will definitely be back.

Stopped in on my way home from Richmond. Oakley was our server and if you go, you have to request him. He was very knowledgable of their beers, food and the ingredients used in both. He made our experience such a fun time. I had the crab cakes and my girlfriend ordered the diver scallops. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. The only downside to my meal was the side of fries, they were a little oily. But I have to say that the whole experience was fun and tasty. The FSKIPA is very good and the Tuscarora red is amazing. I had to get a growler of the red to take home.

I rounded up from 3.5 stars. The beer and ambiance is very good(4 stars) and the food is ok but not great(3 stars). Sampled the sausage stuffed tomatoes, blackened chicken salad, and a burger. I look forward to trying more of the menu, but mostly the beer.

Had a couple of burgers the other night at BH and we were not disappointed. Had the Tuscarora Red Ale, which was nicely balanced with malt flavor and mouthfeel. Had a solid finish. I’ve had a bunch of their beers, but this one was something one could drink a few of and not get palette fatigue.

Super service from Tina who did a great job and was very friendly and attentive. I loved that she understood the humor and gave as good as she got. Awesome service. I had two of their excellent beers with my meal. A fab dunkelweizen and a terrific lager. Both were awesome and reasonably priced. For dinner, I went with the 10 ounce sirloin. Cooked as I ordered, medium rare, it was a good cut and was quite tasty. Loaded baked potato was cooked right and the broccoli was nicely al dente. Good meal, good service, excellent beer. I will look forward to returning to Barley and Hops one day soon!

We have been coming here off and on for 10+ years. The service & food have always been decent. Today was a different story. The service from our waiter«Mike» was on point. He was very accommodating. If the review were based on his performance alone, it would be five stars. My son and I had decent food, no complaints. My husband ordered the prime rib special. He specified that it was to be medium rare. When it came out, it was most definitely not medium rare. My husband cut into it & had to saw to get off a pieces that ended up tasting like rubber. Mike came by to see how everything was. He could clearly see that my husband was not eating/enjoying his prime rib & asked if everything was ok. My husband told him that it was over done. Mike said he would be right back. When he returned he told us that the kitchen told him that they had to cook the prime rib to medium… something that they maybe should tell a customer before they order??? He offered to bring out another order or replace it with something else. My husband politely declined. Mike offered to take the meal off of our bill & we accepted. He came back a few moments later to update us that the cost had been deleted from the bill. A manager never came over to apologize or see what they could do. They left it up to poor Mike. Not cool. I made sure to tip Mike for our entire meal, as everyone should do when dealing with this sort of issue. We will not be back. P. S. On a snarky side-note…They don’t know how to spell«vegetable» correctly…& this added to my annoyance.

Two and a half stars. Plentiful lot parking. Service was mildly absent, but the beers were okay. A couple screens near the bar, and the partition separating it from the restaurant booths blocks most line of sight. The house salad portion is hearty, and the sirloin steak was seasoned well and cooked to requested temp. Unfortunately, my salmon was pretty overcooked, and seasoned conservatively enough that the lemon wedge couldn’t salvage it. I like skin-on mashed potatoes, but these needed more flavor. I’d be willing to give them another chance with any of the following: crab & shrimp stuffed avocado, sausage stuffed tomatoes, cream of crab soup, Swiss pub burger, pan roasted diver scallops, Ossabaw Island pasta, BBQ platter.

We had a really great experience the first time at Barley and Hops. I’ve driven past the place so many times and thought it was something comparable to Applebee’s but I was definitely wrong! We were on a mission for soup and salad. Ended up getting the spinach dip app which was really good and the taco salad was great. It was HUGE! Our server was also fantastic and seemed really knowledgable about the beer. We just had our second Barely and Hops experience. I realized I had not completed my review from the first time so this is a twofer! I wish I could say our second trip was as nice as the first but alas, I cannot. The food was meh. All 3 adults were slightly underwhelmed with the food. Random items were unnecessarily spicy, flavors were just all over the place and both the fish and shrimp were on the soggy side. Also, our server was a small blonde girl with a crappy attitude so that did not help matters. It was just a really weird experience. Not what I was expecting after our first trip. Anyways, I’m sure we will go back at some point but I’m not exactly in a huge hurry to do so.
