I came here pretty often when I lived in the area, and it was nice to stop in today. I love that you can shop around and then pop in here for a drink/snack. Its conveniently located on the corner of William Str. Even when the line appears long the service is quick. They also have a ton of indoor/outdoor seating since they have expanded. Additional bathrooms are located in the new part. I noticed they have Foode salads/snacks in the fridge which look delicious. Normally I get the iced coffee grande, but I felt like trying something new. I got the seasonal blueberry cobbler latte over ice. My mom got the monkeylicious. The monkeylicious is one of her favorites. I wasn’t super impressed with the blueberry drink. It didn’t taste like cobbler, but had a funny taste to it. That being said I asked for it over ice and with rice milk so maybe that changed the taste. The pear smoothie and iced mocha have also been good in the past. I saw a veggie/carrot/fruit drink advertised that I want to try on my next visit. They also have a big water bowl for dogs if you want to sit outdoors with your pet. I like that it offers food from local stores and that the staff are as unique as Fredericksburg. Great place for serious and casual coffee drinks alike.

The iced late is every bit as good as it was twenty years ago when I lived nearby. Kennedy and McKenna were very pleasant and attentive. If you kinda like coffee, this isn’t the shop for you. The coffee here is fantastic. I highly recommend it. A coffee connoisseurs paradise. Jeff

Ultra-awesome double macchiato. Ultra-awesome café breve(which I can’t always find). Friendly staff, sweet with our kids and fast service. What a great little spot! Great décor, too — we thoroughly enjoyed our visit!

I’ve been coming here for every bit of 20 years. The coffee is excellent and staff is always friendly. It’s a quaint spot in the heart of downtown but not very comfortable seating. It’s a cozy place with uncomfortable seating, and that’s the only reason why it isn’t getting 5 stars. The coffee alone is 5 star quality!

It is an amazing coffee shop that even non coffee lovers will enjoy. It is in a fun little part of the downtown. It has smoothies, food, and the usual. A great on the go and nice dining to sit down. It would be nice if they had cashew milk as an option.

This is probably the only legitimate independent coffee house in the Stafford-Fredericksburg Area. Service is fast and the coffee drinks are hot and made to order. Much more enjoyable than Starbucks with a laid back vibe. Love the free wifi and the mix of college students and Fredericksburg locals. Good place to send an hour over a cappuccino and pastry.

Very nice place and coffee was very good. I had the Chai latte and it was perfect! Good location and very comfortable atmosphere. Price was as expected along with good service. I would recommend this to anyone who does not go to Starbucks.

A warm chocolate croissant and the hot chocolate with the delicious whipped cream made in house made an otherwise cold and rainy day a treat for my toddler and me. The toddler was so intrigued, I think she may crawl up the counter and place her own order next time(probably for all the M&M cookies and hot chocolate). The ambiance was well-suited for relaxing after a long work-day, getting a little break with the family or listening to music while studying or working on site. It has the good aspects of a Starbucks type of café without the boring predictability and standard layout of a chain café.

The sad thing about my review is that I have been going to this coffee bar for years. I just recently encountered the owner’s wife in which she is one of the owners as well. I have never in all my years of being in sales which is over 20 years encountered such a rude and and unpersonable person owning an establishment that focuses around customer service. this day and age with the way the economy is how can anybody especially an owner of an establishment be so down right rude and mean. I have always supported small business to the point I average over $ 1,000 a month at this coffee shop. It’s such a shame that she is so rude that I am thinking about getting my own espresso machine and just make my own drinks at home to not deal with her. How sad is that for the coffee is 5 star.

A local favorite in Fredericksburg, Hyperion fulfills the criteria for the quintessential neighborhood coffee house. The only thing missing are live events and local art posted on the walls. Free wi-fi and ample seating for laptoppers, casual gatherings, and regulars Fresh pastries baked in house(the daily coffee cake and bacon/cheddar scone are noteworthy) as well as support of other local vendors such as sandwiches prepared from Foode a few blocks down the street Excellent location located at the heart of the historical downtown district on a semi-hill overlooking the Rappahannock River, excellent for a pitstop while strolling through the old city or a place to perch oneself on the patio to see and be seen. Friendly service and charming interior– the spacing and partitioning of the the main counter and the adjacent seating area strike the perfect coexistence of intimate and spacious. In terms of the coffee drinks, it all comes down to the baristas. I have no doubt they have quality product but how to turn those beans into the perfect cuppa depends on the experience and fastidiousness of the barista. Too much of either can lead to attitude and pretentiousness whereas too little leads to inconsistency or worse, failure to deliver the intended end product. I would have to say based on the age and general temperament of the baristas, they err on the side of inexperience with good intentions, so if you’re itching for a serious cup of joe, don’t expect the best but mixed/flavored drinks can be more forgiving. The perfect example is my go-to drink whenever I am in need of a caffeine fix downtown, the mocha. I’ve had enough fine examples to be self-admittedly snobby about the fact that I prefer high quality chocolate rather than chocolate syrup pumped out of a bottle since I prefer the chocolate to take a backseat to the expresso rather than a coffee dessert beverage. Hyperion does something seemingly blasphemous but with a tinge of genius in that they steam chocolate milk to make their mochas so that the chocolate is already infused within the milk and is not as cloying as using chocolate syrup directly and I’d like to think that the rapid heating of the chocolate milk alters the flavor to produce an almost caramelized chocolate flavor distinct from its humble origins. Not the best mocha but definitely an improvement from the standard. In conclusion, come for the people-watching and ambience, stay for the mochas.

It’s good smooth coffee. The line is a little long. But overall good.& got a vanilla almond latte so it was naturally good. If I am in town any time soon I will be coming back

Hyperion is a great spot downtown to get a good cup of coffee or tea. I don’t usually get any of the fancier coffee drinks but I hear they do those very well too. The location is great and when the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoy your drink. They also have a big selection of pastries but really its the variety of quality teas that I come back for. To comment on the review at bashed Hyperion for their café au lait: café au lait is just coffee with warm milk added to it. So they gave you what you asked for. Perhaps you should have asked for a latte or a cappuccino? Anyway, they are very helpful so if you just explain what you want in the drink, they will gladly make it for you.

This is probably my favorite place in Fred. It’s a perfect place to treat yourself to one of their baked goods or sugary coffee drinks and sit outside and people watch. Sometimes I go to grab my regular weekday coffeee too. Better than Starbucks for sure. I love the atmosphere as well. I love Hyperion even more now that they banned smoking outside!

Drip coffee, Sumatra, very good. Surprised. Staff girl looks like Zoey Deschanel. Killer eyes. Café on ideal corner(sorry Starbucks, best location is taken!!). Layout is cool. 3 steps up to the back«study center» or quiet zone. Plugs everywhere, at convenient heights and proximity to actual usage. Non smoking THAT’S HUGE! Thank you! Tons of outdoor seating to ppl watch. WiFi of course User; hyperion Pass; baseball Etiquette signs to ensure mellow atmosphere. Even a PARENT/CAREGIVER sign saying ~parent your kids & keep em quiet~ They’ve done with a coffeehouse what every other coffeehouse should take note of. Relaxing, quiet, social, bright, dog friendly, fun and cute staff. Loss of * bec they need more flump furniture like old leather couches and grandpa chairs.

I am usually a generous Unilocal reviewer, but was very disappointed by a recent visit to Hyperion Espresso. My wife and I each ordered a café au lait. However, instead of adding espresso with whipped milk, the barista simply added regular coffee and then dumped the whipped milk in. The disappointing result was a tasteless, watered down version of a café au lait. Perhaps this was a mistake? When I noted the problem with the café au lait, the barista looked at me with an annoyed expression and said he could top it up with regular coffee. Yuck. Although the atmosphere seems pleasant(it was full of university students), I would go elsewhere if you’re looking for gourmet coffee. Maybe I should have ordered a regular drip coffee instead. In any case, I would avoid the café au lait as this place does not know how to make this(nor cares). Next time I’m in town, I will go to Starbucks or FoodE instead to find high quality coffee. Residents of Fredericksburg and visitors looking for good coffee — you deserve much better than Hyperion in terms of service and coffee quality!

We stopped in for coffee and a treat after an evening of restaurant hopping in Downtown F-Burg. We’ve always heard such positive things about this coffee shop and seen all the people in it, but have never stopped… don’t know why we never stopped, but wish we would have sooner — it’s a great place! The espresso is done nicely, their prices are VERY fair and they give quad shots standard, starting at their medium size, unlike the expen$ive national chain that charges more for that many shots. The folks working when we went were very nice and engaged us in conversation while we were waiting for our drinks. Can’t wait to go back! Good thing we live close by!

I used to come here frequently when I lived in Fredericksburg and I still like to stop in when I’m passing through. It’s a quirky little place with a varied crowd and good people watching. I don’t drink coffee so I can’t rate it, but they have the usual variety of teas plus some seasonal drinks such as hot apple cider, hot chocolate, etc at different times of the year. There are a variety of snacks to eat also, cookies, marshmallow rice crispie treats, protein brownies, biscotti, scones, etc. They have indoor and outdoor seating, the artwork on the walls is cool. You can’t miss the mural of their logo, a huge rendition of Hyperion. Lots of papers to read, staff is helpful, they will ask you to observe the etiquette rules they have posted if you are being an ass! They have free Wifi also. All in all a cool little to hang out in while in downtown Fredericksburg.
