The ice cream is good, but the customer service sucks. Pretty much two chatty teenagers talking on the phone. We will not return to this place.

Place is very outdated. Staff was friendly but they didn’t have anything left. No brownies, fudge, cones etc. The owner needs to clean the cob webs and do better inventory. I would pass on this place.

I go for the ice cream, not the atmosphere and service, which is lacking to say the least. I feel the ice cream through taste and portion size alone makes up for everything else wrong with Wally’s.

Great ice cream, terrible service! The young male working this evening was busy playing on his cell phone rather than tending to customers.

My arbuckle ice cream was delicious and unique, it was described to me as hot chocolate flavor, it’s lightly cocoa-y and sweet, very creamy. The cone was fantastic crunch and sweet with a nice complex flavor.

Ice cream is really good, but service sucks. My wife, friend, and I went in a week ago very excited to introduce our friend to their delicious ice cream, but unfortunately their employees have no understanding of customer service. There is a chart overhead that is supposed to correlate with the buckets of ice cream behind the glass(not sure why they don’t put labeling on the glass or anywhere near the buckets). The chart was supposed to have X’s on the flavors that were out, which we only understood after talking to the spaced-out employees because there was no written explanation for the X’s. Then, looking at the chart and the flavors, it was obvious there were several flavors that had X’s, but were in fact stocked, and those that were not X’d, but were empty. Then, after selecting flavors that appeared in stock, we were told that those flavors were either 1) in the process of thawing and too frozen to scoop(which is insane – it’s ice cream) or 2) too melted to scoop properly. I asked, «Can you tell me what flavors I can order?» She directed me to the chart again, and said«We have vanilla.» At that point we left, because trying to figure out which flavor I could order was like working through a Sudoku puzzle, and I was just getting mad at that point. I honestly felt like it was a hidden camera show, because it was that ridiculous. We went to Hyperion Espresso and got some frozen drinks, which were really good, the customer service was awesome, and it operated like a typical restaurant(I could ask for something on the menu and actually get it). On an earlier visit, my wife went, a very sweaty employee scooped her ice cream, and his un-gloved hand made plenty of contact with the ice cream. We don’t have extremely high standards for customer service(having worked in retail in the past, we understand), but this place is just ridiculous.

Wallys has the best tasting ice cream, hands down, and some very imaginative flavors(Guinness and Jameson are two of my favorites.) Where Wallys falls short is its atmosphere. I have never felt like the employees are happy to see me, and the interior is worn down in a not charming way. Still, if you are walking downtown on a hot day, stopping by Wallys to pick up a cone and eat it on the steps of Market Square is a fun, delicious, stop.

I have believe for a long time that this ice cream parlor only stays open because it is literally the only place to get real ice cream in the area. The owner is lackluster when you come in as are the employees. Today we went in and there were literally 25% of the choices. They didn’t even have regular chocolate. The person that helped us was less than helpful and just stood there waiting for us to order. There was no «Hello» or «How can I help you?» at any point. The owner and another employee were loudly discussing what to order… Um, everything? As always it was dark and dingy.

My fiancé and I went here for ice cream tonight. The ice cream was good, but the service was awful. The owner should be embarrassed to have the brunette girl in a JMU shirt that served us there working for him. To start off, she did not greet us or ask what we would like. She simply stood there staring at us until I told her my order. When it came to my fiancé’s order, she did not even listen. In the middle of him telling her, another employee walked in and she turned to start an enthusiastic conversation with him rather than listening to the order. This resulted in her giving him something different than what he had wanted. When it came to paying, she was still carrying on a conversation with the other employee about a third employee’s truck. She swiped my fiancé’s card while conversing with the other employee, and then she held the screen out a few feet away from him without even looking at us to have him sign. At the end, there was no offer to give us a receipt, no thank you for stopping by, no goodbye or have a good night. I just walked out astounded by the horrific service. We live in downtown Fredericksburg and that was my favorite ice cream shop, but I can guarantee we will not be back while she is working there.

Nothing good about this experience. It’s very sad to see crummy service at places like this because it partially explains why large industry is taking over these markets. The employees were not particularly friendly and they were not at all helpful. Three of us came by to grab dessert and after 2 folks in my party had their ice cream, the employee asked me «are you with them?» when I answered yes, he went to the register and checked them out without ever taking my order. After waiting in a painfully long line(that they were in no rush to plow through), I just decided not to wait and skipped ordering anyway. This is all on top of the fact that of all the ice-creams listed on the board, they were out of at least 75%, and the«X» marks on the board indicating what they were actually out of did not match the actual coolers. I guess this could have all been overlooked if the ice-cream was good, but one was pretty mediocre, and the other was actually pretty crummy.

The ice cream is good and part of the downtown walk around experience, but we had a totally rude employee tonight that was inconsiderate and curt. He had to finish his text message before he served us. When he was done with his phone he looked up and said«yeah?», as if we were inconveniening him. Terrible service.

This place is disgusting. Went here tonight, dirty place. Out of many flavors, 1 person working. This place could be a goldmine with a thorough makeover, and new equipment. Did I mention that the ice cream was barely frozen. Will not return.

The ambiance might be a bit lacking, but the ice cream… Pistachio is amazing, without artificial food dye either!

This place is open all year and I think it is better then Carl’s. The choices in flavors is wonderful. The lemonade is the right balance between sweet and tart. The owner is very chill. He also sell one of best chili’s in the area during the winter. This place can get busy, but it keeps moving so know your order when it is your turn.

Really odd experience. The place looks really old and dirty. The staff seemed like they had no clue what they were doing and had no interest in being there. We asked for one of the candy bars in the glass case and were informed«we have no idea how old those are.» Then we asked for a milkshake but they were«out of milk.» Ended up with a cookie sundae with a stale cookie.

This place was not anticipating an early February day that was 60 degrees. Everyone wanted some ice cream — the line was outside the door. They only had two people on staff that day. They were busy but kept the line moving. The place is a little outdated but the ice cream is good.

Although I didn’t have their ice cream that looked very good, I tried their Peach Smoothee(yes, smoothee). It was very good and it had a lot of flavor. I was with my dad and grandparents and they all loved their ice cream. Thanks Wally’s!

I don’t know about you, but I DO scream for ice cream. And there are plenty of scream-worthy options here. We sampled several and ended up choosing: Death by chocolate = amazing. Raspberry sorbet = hubs liked it but I found it underwhelming. Prices are decent, but the server tried to convince us to spend about double to get to single cones instead of one cone with one scoop of each flavor. My husband(who doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, anyway) assured them splitting one cone was fine with us, but they pushed back yet again. Errrr. Just give us our ice cream, teenagers!
