I loved staying at the Applewood Inn. Jenn and Jay are great hosts, and the location can’t be beat! Can’t wait to visit again!

Jay welcomed us and our little dog into what felt like their personal home, upon our late arrival at the Applewood Inn this past July. We were just passing through town and needed a quick overnight here after a botched hotel reservation. This warm, friendly inn, not only had spacious, tastefully decorated rooms, a comfortable bed and gorgeously updated bathrooms, it also offered a fantastic breakfast in the morning. The freshly squeezed orange juice was my favorite. We didn’t want to leave that morning. It’s the kind of place you’d like to linger and relax for the day. The location was perfect. It’s located on a quiet sleepy street in town yet just a stones throw from the LL Bean shops. We hope to return annually.

I cannot express in words how exceptional our stay was at The Applewood Inn! Our room, The Alev Suite, was perfect and cozy for two. California king sized bed, skylights, and a jacuzzi. What else can you ask for? Jay, the owner of the establishment, was an absolute delight! He and his family really make this inn feel as if you’re staying at your favorite cousin’s house as opposed to a hotel. You can enjoy coffee and the company of Jay, his family, and other guests sitting at a huge communal style table in the dining room while chef makes delicious breakfast fare. I can’t wait to come back! Did I mention they have their own garden, fruit trees, and chickens?

My boyfriend and I recently spent the night here for our anniversary and the inn was gorgeous. Our room was spacious, modern with nice rustic touches like exposed wooden beams, quiet, private, and had a jacuzzi tub right in the bedroom! The mid-week winter prices are extremely affordable, though I can imagine this room would be quite pricey in peak months. My only complaint was the town itself, though that has more to do with the time of year(February) than anything. We didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on dinner and by the time we got dressed and ventured out(around 8pm), nearly everything had closed or had been closed for the season. Definitely a bummer; we wound up eating at a pub for dinner. Not exactly my vision of a romantic anniversary meal but we made the best of it. We passed on breakfast since we wanted to sleep in, and the later check out at noon made for a relaxing morning. We’ll definitely be back!

Highest marks for the Applewood Inn and its delightful owners, Jenn and Jay, who went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. From the first time that I communicated with Jay, I mentioned that we had a toddler. Their web site said that they welcomed«children of all ages.» I’ve never, ever heard of a B&B that allowed little kids, so I was disbelieving and didn’t want to be disappointed when we actually arrived. He made it clear that we were welcome, and had a pack-n-play in the room when we arrived.(One note: they use perfumed laundry soap, so if this matters to you you should bring your own sheet.) The room was wonderful: spacious, a comfortable bed, a full bath with a walk-in shower and a separate two-person jacuzzi(which we never used, sadly, but it was nice to know that it was an option). Breakfast was great, the location fantastic, and the other guests were people who we could have been friends with — compassionate and kind when we stumbled down the steps after a slightly challenging night of attempted sleep. :-) I could imagine choosing a different place if I was looking for a guaranteed adults-only B&B; but not one of the adults who met us or our little boy seemed upset by his toddlerishness, or by the fact that he didn’t sleep perfectly the first night. Our experience certainly compels me to return, even long after our boy is grown, and to be similarly gracious to other parents with young kids, because now«I’ve been there»(as the others said to us!). Thanks; we will definitely be back.

We recently spent a night here. The room(#8) was great. It was furnished with cherry Shaker furniture and the bathroom was nicely done. We hope to come back and would happily stay here again. Freeport is a nice little shopping town that is very walkable and the Applewood Inn is convenient to all. At breakfast the eggs were runny to the point of being soupy, so we would skip that next time, but the breakfast wasn’t that important to us.

Family owned and operated, The Applewood Inn, is our go to spot in Freeport, ME and has become an annual pilgrimage. For us, its like going«home.» Location is perfect as its only steps to LL Bean and the center of town. Ask for the jacuzzi suite!
