This is my favorite book store in town. The man who runs it is incredibly friendly, as are the portly orange house cats that have the run of the place. Very homey, very inviting. Nice and quiet like a book store should be. Fairly priced, and with a huge selection. There’s no real organization, but that’s half the fun of looking for a new book to read, and this place is crammed full of books. I highly recommend stopping by this reader’s paradise.

Cluttered, crowded and buyer BEWARE!!! Though the owner and his wife are nice folks, their business dealings are a bit to be desired… goes by what the best price on Amazon is currently and has looked up books on Amazon when the book in question has no price in it… in front of customers… Torn or missing pages are par for the course… not to mention writing, highlighting and mold in some cases. If you’ve books to trade… go elsewhere… you won’t get what the book is reasonably worth. go elsewhere first.

I made an impulse stop at the Freeport Book Shoppe. This book shop is inside the first floor of a house which has lots of really old books(1910) and used books including out of print and hard to find titles. Books are really crammed in tight in almost every nook and cranny of the store. The books are organized by subject, but not really in any particular order. The prices are pretty good and fair and are penciled inside the book cover. Check out the bargain closet for great deals. I picked up a couple Dummies books for $ 4 each and I asked the owner if he had maps and travel books. He showed me a drawer which had old gas station maps. JACKPOT!!! I scored several old gas station road maps including some of New York State which date back to the 1950s(no Interstate highways and NYS Thruway yet) and 1970s(portions of I-88 were under construction), priced at $ 2-$ 4 each. There were also other drawers with old restaurant menus, 1960s travel guides, and printed sports memorabilia. Found some great classic hard to find deals on this impulse visit!
