Real cool atmosphere outside. Beers were very good. Food looked great but was kind of bland. Right off the highway so a nice place to stop for a quick meal and beer.

Went on a recommendation from our hotel. Server became disinterred as soon as he realized we didn’t drink. Burger was over cooked. Would have sent it back but the server was I where to be found. Would not go back.

I was out for Memorial Day weekend with the fam and we were in the Freeport area. We had been to Grittys before and everyone was hungry, so we gave it another go. At 530p, there was no wait for 5 adults /1 child for indoor seating. Fast forward to the end, the big winners were the sweet potato fries and Gritty’s IPA. Not the best IPA for me, but good. Enough to have two! It has a little too much bitters in the after taste for me. What we ordered and scale 1 – 10. 10 being best 4 Wings 7.5 Spinach /Artichoke Dip 5 Kids cheese pizza 5 Fish sandwich 5 Quesadilla 6 Steak panini 8 Reuben 8 Gyro Basically, everything was«ok» or less. The service good. We gave 17%. Average service to us is 15%. The wings were disappointing. Soggy, not crispy. They were small, not much meat… The Thai glazed was a sweet chili Thai. Good sauce. Sweet w a nice, but not severe burn within the after taste. The quesadilla was disappointing for my son. It was more a la carte and the server did not help him through it. The end product this not have what he wanted and some pieces burnt. My youngest simply did not like her pizza… and pizza is her favorite food. The sandwiches at large were not impressive. «Taste» was«not bad», but their are restaurants capable of rendering beefy, robust creations. That’s what is in comparison here — particularly considering the price… the Reuben seemed to be the winner on the ones we ordered. Overall, we spent just over $ 120 including tip. Our service was good, courteous… we got our food in a respectfully expected time, the quality just did not measure up… and«value for the money» suffered because of it.

Having lunch here now. Great food, price is right, service is nice. Zero complaints. Lobster bacon quesadilla, and tried my gf’s fries, which were great as well.

Stopped by here on the way back from a ski trip. Since this was the only sports bar in town(from Unilocal), we swung by for a bite and to watch the game. Ordered a turkey club, shepherds pie, and beers. While maybe not the most visually appealing, the shepherds pie was exactly what I wanted. Something homey, warm, and tasty! The turkey club was massive, and it came with fries and bacon inside the sandwich. Overall, great experience. We stayed at the bar for the whole game and the bartender kept checking in on us. This place was really cute because above the bar are a lot of mugs –seemed like they were for the loyal customers that come to grab a beer all the time. Very townie and nice to see a close community.

Stay away from the Mac & Cheese. My wife got lobster Mac for about 24 and I got the steak Mac for about 18. It was a cream sauce not cheese and they didn’t drain the pasta so it was watery. The scotch ale was AMAZING. The male server we had was incredibly attentive. He kept our kids happy and entertained. Great asset to the company.

Great food, tasty beers all at a reasonable price. A bit noisy in the bar area though. All in all, we will be back!

A great meeting location, half way between Portland and Brunswick, just far enough out of downtown Freeport to not be annoying. Beers are good, food is decent. The chicken burrito is not good, but the Mac and cheese is great. The burger is a burger. Our server talked about being a high-functioning alcoholic, but the kids at our table didn’t seem to mind.

Lousy food — $ 12 for two-and-a-half chicken finger-sized pieces of fried cod and cool, stale fries fried in oil that should have been changed a while ago. Absolutely awful(indifferent; inattentive; slow — except when it came time for the check, of course) service. The only reason this is a two-star review is the beer is good(not great). I’d like to say his was isolated to this visit to this location, but my experience was similar at the Old Port location a while ago, as well. Won’t be going out of my way to re-visit either.

Oh Gritty’s, thank goodness your beer is so good because your service is so not. I always like the Mediterranean salad, and this time of year, the Halloween Ale is my go to.

Unique Maine pub atmosphere. We sat at bar and watched the patrons — all in plaid shirts! Delicious food and fun ambiance.

Delicious food, Reasonable prices and ok beer & service Our waitress was training a new employee so that might have been some of the issue but in general she seemed in a rush or hurry but not really sure why it wasnt very busy. We started with beer(I had the raspberry wheat, like the seadog beer much better) The food was better here through for sure we shared spinach dip for a starter and then I had the bbq pork mac n cheese(got the half order and it was still huge) very tasty! The dip will happen again for sure and my boyfriend had a reuben sandwich which he really liked. All in all if we are in the area, we would return for sure.

Strong beer, delicious food, reasonable prices, great service. I will admit this place was our 2nd choice. Goal was going to a local lobster joint, but it turned out it was not yet open for lobster season. Womp womp. But, I’m really glad we chose this place. 2 twin lobster rolls and fries for $ 20. UNREAL. The mister had a lobster, steamers, and 3 different sides for $ 25. The beer I was told packed a punch and tasted really good(I was abstaining since I had a race the next day). Even though this was second fiddle, it made a good impression and if we are ever in town again, I’ll definitely come back.

I ordered the clams and they were cooked well but I have never tried whole clams before so didn’t particularly love them. Much prefer fried clam strips. My boyfriend ordered a burger and he asked for medium and it was cooked closer to well done. We ordered the pulled pork sweet potato fries as an appetizer and those were delicious. We had the option of sitting inside or outside. At first we chose inside, but the ambience was incredibly loud(you are seated at tables with other people), so we went outside. Within a minute, the mosquitos started biting. They need better lighting and mosquito eaters. My boyfriend ended up getting around 8 bites in less than 10 minutes so we were forced to sit back inside. Overall was alright but not a must eat for Maine and won’t be visiting again.

My husband and I went here last night and it has it pros and cons. They don’t have very many areas for small parties, we were set at a LONG picnic style table. The menu was kind of disappointing. It wasn’t very big and it didn’t have much of a selection. I get that it is mostly known for their beer, but it was very underwhelming… We started off with the calamari, which is something we normal order. There was nothing special about it. We got it tossed in some kind of garlic sauce. At first we didn’t know where the sauce was and I originally thought the calamari was VERY greasy cause there was nothing but grease in the bottom of the bowl. Come to find out it was garlic oil. The calamari wasn’t really«tossed» in the garlic oil it seemed like the oil was put in the bottom of the bowl and then the calamari just put on top of it before it was brought out to us… Dan decided to go with the build your own burger option. It seemed very weird to us that EACH topping as an extra charge we had to pay for. Nothing was included… With that being said he asked for the habanero sauce and our server told us it was VERY hot, that people have cried when they have had it. Dan was in HEAVEN! When it was brought out they actually put the habanero on the side, which was not a big deal I guess a lot of people found it to hot and would send the food back, so I can understand not wanting to waste food! The sauce wasn’t to hot, but once you got a good amount in your mouth there was a little bit of heat! I ordered the chicken burrito, and I am VERY disappointed. I was stuck between the chicken burrito and the haddock one and our server suggested the chicken one cause it also had the habanero sauce on it, and she said the haddock was kind of bland. I could not believe I paid as much as I did for that burrito. It was VERY bland, and there was no habanero sauce on it. I also ordered a cherry limeade for a drink and it was lacking in taste as well! I think the only good thing about the night for me was the cup of lobster bisque I had. It was a cream based and very filling! Not sure if we would go back unless there was something that we couldn’t love without.

This place is always packed on Friday and Saturday nights so if you want a table you best get there before 5pm or you may have to wait a bit. This is a second location, with the first one in Auburn, and parking can become limited during high temp hours. They have an outside patio area where you can enjoy your meal, some drinks and some of their freshly brewed house beers. When I went I had a the blackened fish tacos which came with rice, pico de gallo and some sour cream. The lettuce used in the tacos was a bit overpowering and dulled the flavor of the fish. The fish was nicely breaded but I didn’t taste the blackened part as it had no spice to it what so ever. The rice was cooked well but the tacos need much more seasoning because even salt and pepper wasn’t helping them. I have had other meals at their other location and those were good but this one falls short which is why 3– stars are awarded for this review.

Pretty typical pub food and atmosphere. We got the Beer Cheese appetizer which was the only food that was worth talking about. It was really yummy. Make sure you eat your appetizer before you order your main meal. We asked them to hold off on putting the entrees in but we still got our meals with the appetizer. I had a Black Fly Stout and the Seasonal Porter. Both tasted pretty delicious, especially with the beer cheese. The winner from this trip was the Bacon Bloody Mary that my mom ordered. It was fantastic! The spice level was perfect ANDBACON. Because of this magic drink we will be returning for the Brewer’s Brunch on March 15th. Should be fun!

Been by Gritty’s probably 25 times over the past 2 years, but this was our first time visiting it. Casual atmosphere sort of like a pub in an old, large warehouse. Lots of open space, hardwood floors, rather loud. Quite an interesting menu, with seasonal items, specialty items, etc. of course LOTS of draft beers likely made right on the premises. Good prices, generous portions and tasty food. Can’t get any better than this for casual dining pleasure.

It’s pretty basic as far as bar food goes. I had the lamb burger without bread which was pretty tasty. The bartender was the best part about the place. She was super friendly. There were a couple of bar flies there playing youtube videos loudly which was a bit obnoxious, but other than that it was good. The beer was pretty decent as well.

A good Freeport option if dining with smaller children. Outdoor patio area steps down to what essentially is a very nice size fully fenced backyard. This worked well for us since our party had 2 little ones; one of whom would never sit through a full meal. Overall food was OK — fairly average pub quality food and this was across a wide range of selections for our party of 10. Typical apps — nacho platter, wings, etc., which were fine; nothing spectacular. Mains included the Philly cheese steak(good), the pub steak panini(less than good), mac and cheese(eh), pizza(skip it), burgers(fine) and tacos(ok). Decent craft beer selection and the service was good and certainly very family friendly. It served our purposes well for the one night we dined out in Freeport with smaller kids and while the food was just OK; it’s along the lines of what we expected so I wouldn’t say we were disappointed. Stick to standard pub fare and you’ll be fine. Big John was certainly happy to be able to sit and enjoy a meal while Little John wandered about freely without disturbing other diners. Probably averages to 2.5 stars; 3 for families with young’uns, 2 for everyone else. I’ll round up to 3 since we fell into the former category that night.
