Such a nice little gem in the middle of nowhere. Went inside with just the GF and we were the only two in the place. Bartender treated us like royalty. Gave us free tastings of everything we wanted with explanations and didn’t rush us the entire time. Loved the ration rum so much that I bought one to take home. Good place to come by on a leisurely afternoon to get some buzz on!

Awesome place and amazing staff! Lucas was extremely knowledgeable about the spirits and answered all of the silly questions we had! We taste tested the white and dark rums and they were on point and super tasty! Also had the cider cocktail that had the spiced rum & a cinnamon stick… We will definitely be back next time we are in Maine and look forward to visiting the Portland location!

Wow, this place is pretty awesome and there is nothing like it in Freeport. This is a great stop if you are in town and want a craft cocktail or just want to taste some of their spirits. I went recently with a friend and while we didn’t do any tastings, we had a cocktail(or two) and enjoyed some popcorn while catching up. We both tried the special cocktail of the day(something with strawberries in it, and quite refreshing) and I had their version of a Moscow Mule which is made with their own ginger brew and was fantastic. I might be in the minority, but I like a cocktail that doesn’t taste like alcohol. I like to taste the other components of the drink. The bartender was friendly and helpful and didn’t seem bothered that we sat there for several hours just chatting and hanging out. It’s a cool spot and definitely a place to check out if you need a break from the outlets!

I come each week to enjoy an ever changing group of Irish music play musicians. It’s got a great laid back atmosphere. And even though I personally drink they do offer really good mocktails and from my friends I come with the cocktails are pretty great too. So anytime you are in Freeport swing on in. Nice bar tenders and good company and music weekly Thursday’s 5 – 7. Come support live music, and support things happening here.

The Maine Craft Distilling company is truly an original! Things to try… Everything. But if you want something really unusual, try the carrot gin, made from carrots in northern Maine or the Blueberry Moonshine. I have never tasted anything so complex and earthy, with slight hints of carrots along with the traditional taste of liquor. Their mixologist, Lucas, is very friendly and knowledgeable. They have popcorn to snack on as you do your tasting and then stay for a craft cocktail! This place is a must for every drinker.

I stumbled upon Maine Craft Distilling’s brand new tasting room in Freeport around Christmas. They had just opened a week before my visit but you never would have known it — the space, spirits and service were all fabulous and I couldn’t see any opening-week kinks that needed working out. I’d been wanting to go to MCD’s Bayside tasting room for months so when I found myself with some time to kill while waiting for a friend who was running late, I thought I would just duck in and sample a spirit or two. Instead, I ended up spending 30+ minutes tasting all of MCD’s offerings. My bartender/educator, Emily(I’m 99% sure that was her name), was friendly, warm and informative and she just kept pouring. How could I say no? I think I tried everything that Maine Craft Distilling makes and I especially liked the Fifty Stone Whiskey, Queequeg Spiced Rum and Chesuncook Gin. The Blueshine — blueberry moonshine — was a little sweet for me but it would be great in a summery cocktail. Emily’s pours were generous and the backstories of the spirits were quite interesting. Pro tip: there is also a small(for now) cocktail menu available so if you want to stay a while, this might be the best route to go. As I sat on my tractor-seat bar stool sipping spirits, I couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous space. A beautiful, long farm table sits right in the center of the main tasting room area — perfect for a tasting with a large group of friends(hint, hint, Steff!) and off to the side of the entrance there’s a lovely little library nook with books and a comfortable leather chair. Emily told me that MCD will also be finishing the upstairs space in the next few months to provide more room for tastings and events. Note: tastings are free(for now) so tip your bartender generously! Perfect space, great experience and a great addition to Freeport.
