The owner is RUDE n he always over charge. For example: Gandana bolanie is $ 10.99 on the menu but if u don’t pay attention at the time of pay, he will charge u $ 12.00 for each n tax as well or if ur total is $ 43.20 n u give him $ 45.00 then he will give u a dollar back n keep the lose change too. To me it’s not customer service but he likes to ripoff people. Keep in mind that the loose change means a lot to some people:((he is so cheap, when u ask for a plastic bag he will give u an attitude n lie to u n tell u they r out of bags while there is a stuck hanging on the side.

Customer service isn’t the best and they close the kitchen half an hour before. But 3 stars for the cream rolls, chicken kabob, and bolani.

Went to this place on a Sunday with family of 8 around 415p. They close at 5p. Nobody was in the location, the owner was sitting down eating along with 5 others, Im guessing co-workers. The owner told us he will be unable to serve us because the kitchen is closed already. WHAT! We told him we drove from Antioch and this is what we get for wanting to eat here? As good as the place is, WORSTSERVICE. So we went to De Afghan few blocks away and they opened at 5p which worked out perfect.

A friend brought me here. Best bulani ever! Had potato one, I want to go back to get it again soon. Good place for take-out and good to call so you don’t have to wait. Also, the bakery items are good.

Best food ever. I highly recommend this place. Try everything there. Start from food and end it with pastries.

Only had the potato bolani here and it’s delicious. Nice and crispy on the edges and chewy and soft in the center. For being less than $ 10, portions are pretty generous.

The only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars is for the cream rolls, they are very tasty. Other than that this place needs a total make over. I’ve been coming here for like 15 yrs & the same old fake red flower basket/vase is still sitting behind the register as a display. It’s just sad that the owner is so cheap that they can’t even tidy the place up a bit. I’m surprised the board of health hasn’t stepped in… The customer service is horrible they need to work on providing exceptional service to customers. The owner is rude & has a lot of attitude. This place has a lot of potential if they worked on the service & ambience.

I called in my order at Balkh to get bolani. They make two kinds: leek or potato and girl said no more leeks 12÷28÷14. So I had to get potato, she asked if I wanted Spicy, I said ok. It takes 20 minutes to make it so call in your order. Picked up by 12noon and she had to get it from the kitchen. Bolani is put into a small pizza box with one green chutney. I had to ask for another one and some yogurt! Brought it to a small party and the other people really liked it. I tried it and it’s not spicy at all, there was some chili flakes in it and potatoes. Tasted ok for me. They take credit cards, I paid $ 9.80 after tax for One order of Bolani.

The only thing I liked here was Roat(sweet bread) after my last visit, I will never go to this place. The owner was extremely rude when I simply asked if he had fresh Roat. He told me to leave his store and don’t bother to buy from him. I was shocked as I’ve never experienced such a bad service. No matter how great your food/cakes are you should always have manners and treat people with respect. In really disappointed with their customer service. :(

We ordered bolani after reading great reviews on Unilocal, however, they completely messed this up. The potatoes were already spoiled and green onions were way too dried. Regardless, the owner is so rude and unprofessional that he would not take this rotten bolani back or even replace with new one. I peeked into the kitchen area which seemed very unhygienic and dirty which reminds me of those country side dirty restaurants in Afghanistan while I was stationed there. And that’s why only one star is given. I will not recommend anyone to try this place, it worth driving little bit more to Fremont area for a real afghan restaurant. The owner MUST change his attitude and treat customers with some respect — it’s about time to learn some basic American manners.

LOVE this place. Part of my family lives in the bay so we’ve been going here since I was a kid and it has been consistently amazing. My younger brother doesnt like«syah-dawna» on roht, and for years they were so accommodating making 10 wheat roht without the«syah-dawna» for my grandmother to ship to us in the midwest. I just had a chance to try the cream roll for the first time this past time I was there and it was phenomenal, my only regret is that we didn’t get more. I took a box of the almond and rice cookies back with me to the midwest and they always survive the trip well as well as the time in my freezer until I can visit my brothers to hand them off to them. Their baked goods are really great and very true to authentic tastes. Their service is great too, definitely recommend it.

I like the food here. I’ve had their mantoo, bolani, and chicken kabob. I wish the kabob sandwiches had more to them like some sauce or vegetables in them. When my husband ordered it though, the guy at the counter told us it was just the chicken and bread, nothing else in it. The bread was really good though, fresh and the chicken was cooked just right and was seasoned well. When I go back, I’ll probably order the mantoo since that’s my favorite thing there so far. I ordered the bolani to go so it got a little soggy. That happens when I order it at other places too. I’ll have to just order and eat it there next time I want to try it so it’s nice and crispy. For desserts, I’ve had the swan and the brownie. At first I thought the swan might have more custard in it but it’s mostly whipped cream. The pastry part of the swan was tasty and there’s a little raspberry at the bottom as a nice surprise. The brownie is nothing special and I won’t order it again. There’s a little hint of mint in the brownie. The people who work there are pleasant. My husband and I thought some of the food like the kabobs should be a little cheaper considering the restaurant is not very fancy inside.

Just loved my food. If looks can be deceiving, this is perfect example. I did not expect to get such a treat to my taste buds when saw the bakery from outside. From inside it is small but clean place and what matters: a very friendly person at counter and awesome food. I have eaten other Afgan places before, but no-one suggested few things I had here. Had Gandana Bolani, Aashak, Chicken Kabab and yummy crème roll for to-go. I did not even know some of these items before my friend suggested these to me. Would go again for sure and soon.

The lady that owns this place was rude to my mother and we came all the way from Concord to eat in this place. We will never be back there again terrible customer service and not polite at all. There is over a dozen at place within 5 mile radius that has better food and more selection. I will tell everyone that I know about the bad service we received on 01÷03÷13.

Very good, tasty baked goods at fair prices. There’s never been a line to order when I went, so I was always in-and-out in like 5 minutes. Friendly business owners are here to great you with a smile and provide high quality sweets(and also bread) from their ovens. Really close to the 880 freeway(Alvarado exit — NOT the Alvarado Niles exit, but Alvarado Blvd.) for easy access, and they’re open later than most bakeries are(I think until about 5pm or so, most days). I always get 2 – 3 items for about $ 5. They also sell freshly baked, large loaves of bread, which I only got once, but it was really good as well. There’s a Middle-Eastern grocery story next door, too.

The best bulani PERIOD. Try the ones with the leeks instead of the potato. The man who works here seems really nice. I wish him well.

We just had an event at the office. We used them for catering and the food was so yummy. I had leftovers and the meat was still very tender. The beef wasn’t overcooked and so flavorful. It was the perfect amount of salt and heat. The pieces of beef were huge too. The chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. The rice and bolani were good. I had been here before once and I wasn’t hungry enough for the food. I just wanted a brownie and that wasn’t too good. But what I just had was quite delicious.

This place is a jack of all trades type of eatery. When this place first opened up, I never thought that it would survive. I was thinking, how can one place have Afghan kabobs alongside French cream rolls? But, this place really grew by word of mouth, because their food is tasty and fresh, no matter what they are serving. For their food, their bolani is really good. They give you some chutney and yoghurt on the side and the portion is enough to fill up 2 people. I would recommend eating it there instead of taking it to go because it’ll get soggy on the ride home. As for their pastries, they all look really cute, but they are known for their cream rolls which are kind of expensive at $ 1/piece, but still worth it considering its size! They also have Afghan candy and sweets packaged to go: I would recommend the«sheerpera» if you enjoy the taste of cardamom. This place is run by a really sweet couple who are very hospitable and welcoming. Don’t be intimidated by the location since it is in a weird little shopping center in a residential area.
