I recently went back to this restaurant after about 6 – 9 months. Guess what, they no longer serve dim sum. I was so bummed out about I found out. This was my go to place for dim sum since theirs were less greasy and packed more meat. I ordered a couple of other items for take out such as the seafood clay pot and peking style pork ribs. The dishes were decent but I wish they would bring the dim sum back.

My husband, daughter and I ate there yesterday afternoon(7.5.15). We ordered orange chicken, broccoli beef, special fried rice & chicken egg foo yung. We all got food poisoning! We ended up taking most of the food home because immediately after eating it something felt off for all of us. Once we started getting sick, we threw what we had brought home into the trash. Waste of $ 40. Will never eat there again!

The best chineese food i had in my life, highly recommended! Orange fish, chineese broccoli, mongolian beef and chop suey are a must try. I normally am a more fan of chicken, but this place’s seafood options are great !

So far I’ve been sitting in the restaurant for 20 minutes. We got our salad and water right away, but we have yet to receive our main courses. 5 other parties were seated after us and have already started their meals, so needless to say there is inconsistency on their service and it’s slow. I’ll be updating this review as our meal progresses…

Found this place because it’s right next to Edo-Ya(which I’m a regular at). Edo-Ya had a very long wait, so when I was walking to my car I saw the Unilocal sticker on China Chop Suey’s door. Well since we were starving I figured we’d give it a shot. Why not? We were seated right away and noticed it was pretty busy.(Figured that was a good thing) Prices looked good, and they had a pretty big menu, but we were gonna keep it simple. Went with the: Shrimp Chow Mein Shrimp Chow Fun Spicy Chicken over Pan Fried Noodles & an order of Fried Rice Our server had some trouble speaking English, but she was still a very nice lady. Got the orders in no problem. She even asked us if we wanted our noodles to be crispy. Food came out in about 10 mins. We were very surprised. I was expecting a longer wait. Plates were packed. Plenty of food! Food was great! The noodles were crispy at the bottom, just like we asked. Everything was great. Even the rice was good. Just a bit dry, but nothing too bad. To conclude, we really liked this place. Bill came out cheap, everybody was full, and we had plenty of leftovers. Food wasn’t legendary, but it was still good regardless. We will def be returning.

I had the veggie chow mein, the noodles were burnt and dry. Also had the walnut shrimp, alright but the pineapples were bad. Last i had hot and sour soup, it was great! The service was fine.

This place is awesome. They use to be on Blackstone and Clinton. Not only has the restaurant upgraded by the food has gotten better and it was great on Blackstone. They have a chinese menu which is a major plus. Great food, great service and great value. The chicken lettuce wraps are my favorite.

I’ve been here a few times now and can’t decide if I’ll give them another try or not. When trying new places, I like to order at least 1 dish multiple times to judge consistency. That dish has been honey walnut shrimp. Each time I’ve ordered it, it has came different. Once it had pineapples, once it was on pan fried noodles(very overcooked) and another time it was on rice noodles. It has varied from being bland and luke warm as well. A little consistency would be nice here. Mongolian beef was okay, nothing to write home about. It was a tad bland for our tastes. Garlic chicken was okay at first bite. After that it was very bland. The honey added a lot of soy sauce and salt to season it to make it edible. We also ordered the appetizer sampler. It comes with 2 egg rolls, fried shrimp, bbq pork, foil wrapped chicken. The first time we ordered it everything was very good. The second time we ordered this, everything was greasy as hell and very bland. The shrimp were overly doughy and bland. We were very disappointed by the other visits. The first visit was great, but it just went downhill after that. Probably won’t go back, we will just stick to our regular spots.

Food here is still great and very reasonably-priced. It’s hard to fine really good Chinese food in Fresno but China Chop Suey offers a wide variety of food choices including dim sum and the patrons can expect to get excellent value for the food here. We had the beef chow fun with black bean sauce, seafood tofu clay pot, honey walnut shrimp, green bean beef and Peking style pork. Nothing out of the ordinary and they were all very well-prepared. The tofu in the seafood clay pot is by far my very favorite. The tofu was ultra tender, succulent and flavorful. Green beans were sweet, tasty and retain that fresh crunch. The portion of the beef show fun was enormous compared with what I normally get in the Bay Area and it was very well-prepared. Kudos to the Chef for making the beef chow fun! Considering the restaurant is in Fresno, I am actually impressed with their service and quality. I look forward to coming back here next time I am in town.

I was not pleased with the service or food from this establishment. The food was bland and some if it was cold(BBQ pork). The waitress ignored us for another group of people who came in after us and catered to them. There are lot of Chinese food places on the same area, I suggest trying one of them instead.

Loved their Mongolian beef with peppers? I guess. We originally ordered Mongolian beef with broccoli but we got this instead. It’s still good though. We also ordered honey walnut shrimp, It was alright the shrimp was kinda small.

Apparently, this sit down/take-out restaurant must have recently moved to this location on W. Shaw because I have never noticed it and the restaurant ran a full page ad in the newspaper announcing their«Grand Opening» on September 16, 2013. This is my first visit to this restaurant and hope to return so I can order something else to try. Went on a weekday school night so it wasn’t busy. They had plenty of help and had great service. Had a huge variety to choose from on their menu. Here are some things we ordered. Recommended: Orange chicken had small crunchy pieces and had a good flavor. Included soup with meal is tasty and has some substance to it(sometimes it’s just broth & tofu). Some kids may not like the mushrooms and chestnuts in the soup. Not recommended: Beef Chow Fun(beef, baby bok choy, flat rice noodle, bean sprouts). Did not like the texture of the beef as it was rather chewy and found the seasonings rather bland. Portion sizes are HUGE! We had to take some home for a second or third meal. Prices range are around $ 6.25−13.95 for lunch and dinner. They are open 7 days a week. Sun.- Thurs. from 11AM — 9PM and Fri./Sat. from 11AM — 9:30PM. Located near Big 5 and Target at Marks and Shaw and in an outdoor mall near Marks side.

To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations of this place. It came highly recommended by my girlfriend. I was a bit skeptical because we haven’t found any good Chinese food places in fresno. I’m so glad that she proved my disbelief to be wrong! –Plenty of seating available in the restaurant. –Great customer service –Great tasting food. –Reasonable prices.(check photos I posted the menu) I ordered the chicken salad and it was great. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone in the fresno area.

Well… It was ok. Good sized portions, but lacked flavor? Spare ribs were mostly bones. The bok choy and sesame balls were the only better dishes I would recommend. Service was slow when there was only one family other than us, but otherwise very polite and always checking on us.

I really like this place. Good food, great prices, comfortable, clean and very nice people. If you want spicy(I can’t eat spicy food) tell them. The dishes that were normally to spicy for me I was able to eat.

Wow — there is some really great dim-sum here at China Chop Suey, where the HELL have I been. If you’re not familiar with dim-sum, think of dim-sum as «Asian tapas.» What is tapas? …Seriously bro, if that’s a legit question you have to ask yourself, stop reading ’cause you need to get out more. For anyone(including myself) who has been harping about how Imperial Garden is the«only place in town that serves dim sum,» WE were wrong. If your haven for traditional, Sunday, early-afternoon dim-sum was Imperial Garden before this review, forget that, because you’re going to be coming to China Chop Suey from now on, just accept this. Look — Imperial’s ‘good’ and all, but I’ve just been eating it for literally 20+ years, plus it just seems like it’s on some odd, uncharacteristic decline, especially as of late. The increasingly greasy, oily food, old, Asian stir-fried vegetables that aren’t even fresh, uncleanliness, default poor service that has recently gotten more and more bitchy, and who could forget the massive crowds every Sunday afternoon here that we could all do without. I’ve just been looking for a great reason and excuse to stop going there I guess, and China Chop Suey could not have come at a better time. Perhaps this may seem biased then, I don’t know — interpret it as you will. If anything, I just hope this review encourages people to try it out, because they surely deserve the business and support here. I’d just like to see Imperial finally wake-up and realize that they don’t have a monopoly on dim-sum in Fresno, and perhaps they should fix some of the things above; they’ve just gotten real lazy. At Chop Suey, you’ll find that the dim-sum here is ‘lighter’ and a tad less greasy than Imperials. Sure, there’s nothing like greasy, oily dim-sum, but it’s just too much sometimes at Imperial, not allowing the flavor of the fillings to really come out. Dim-sum aficionados will also notice that Chop Suey uses less dough than Imperial, which for me at least, is really welcoming; Imperials dough-wrapped dim-sum items can get too heavy, starchy and dry, turning hard and ‘gummy’ if it sits too long. Chop Suey’s is nice and light as quality dim-sum should be, not over-bearing at all on the contents and filling inside. You’ll find ALL the dim-sum staples here, such as har-gow, crispy crab claws, chicken-feet, shui-mai, steamed black bean spare-ribs, etc; basically, Chop Suey has everything that Imperial has, and then some. Trust me – it’s all there. As far as the restaurant itself, the exterior is not much to look at. It’s basically«circa 1982» here, and I think of faded, Technicolor television tones when I pull up. However, the dining room is pleasantly clean, and well-lit as there are windows lining every wall, unlike the gloominess of Imperial’s «dim-sum-lights dungeon,» which seems like a serial-rapist hang-out. It’s just a welcome change of scenery from Imperial, as they haven’t changed their décor for decades. Trust me, i’ve been coming here for at least 20 years — It has NOT changed one bit here. Mainly, what I particularly admire about Chop Suey, is that they seem to be the only Chinese restaurant able to fully-compete with the breadth of dim-sum that Imperial has to offer. Usually when Chinese restaurants here offer«dim-sum,» it’s usually about a quarter of the menu of Imperial’s, and just an overall half-ass version that is RARELY good. At Chop Suey, as I mentioned above, they have everything, plus a bit more. Bottom line, ‘sure,’ there’s much better and varied dim-sum joints outside of Fresno in the local Chinatowns of SF /NY /LA, etc. — but for FRESNO — I’d argue that China Chop Suey not only has ‘good’ dim sum, but I feel is actually better than Imperial Garden’s. As far as the regular food, I honestly can’t really speak for, as I have yet to try that, but with the dim-sum alone, I’m confident enough to vouch and put my «stamp-of-approval» here. I 100% guarantee that there will be some China Chop Suey converts who will now be coming here over Imperial Garden for dim-sum, you can bet on it.
