I’m a fan of this market. It’s a great stop when I’m running errands in downtown Fresno. It is conveniently located near the Civic Center, so it draws a lot of government workers during their lunch break. This is their second year and I have no doubt it will grow every year. PROS: –Inexpensive produce compared to other farmers markets –I adore the diversity of vendors. I can buy natural skin-care(including non-toxic sunscreen) from Aroma Salud, Fresno-themed gifts from Twee Boutique, fine cheese from Château Organic Fresno, and organic produce. –You can buy produce for your house and eat lunch at some of downtown Fresno’s best restaurants… all in the same area. –The area gets busy during lunch but parking has never been a hassle. There’s a parking lot and on-street parking. Well… it’s a hassle if you don’t have change. CONS: –It’s new so it’s still a relatively small market. WEDNESDAYS9AM-2PM APRILTILLENDOFOCTOBER

The possibilities for this farmer’s market are huge. The downtown group that sponsors the market are still getting their feet wet, but I am hopeful this might someday be more like the Ferry Building farmer’s market. I know, that’s a huge stretch, but all those growers that head up to San Francisco are right here in our valley and should be selling their produce to the local guys. However, we are too tight to pay the prices they can get in San Francisco. The market is next to the far north end of the Convention Center, in front of sliver of stores at Kern and N Streets. There is street parking all around the place, but you will need coins for the meters. Bring small bills for the vendors. They don’t seem to have change for big bills. The hours have changed for 2013– 9 to 3. There is usually live music. Twee is there with her cute trailer and handmade Fresno items. Hamada Farms, one of those local growers that show up at the Ferry Building, has a booth. Hopefully, as more people attend, more growers will bring their produce to sell.
