My son, my daughter and I have been going to Bushi Ban Friendswood for 3+ years. We absolutely love it. I am now 50 years old, my daughter 17 and my son 15. We do the adult martial arts class and the power kickboxing class. Those classes keep us in great physical condition and has also help my kids develop greater self confidence. Our main instructor, Sensei Brakke Juull is an incredibly gifted martial artist and engaging teacher. I have watched him teach all age groups and I am most impressed with the extreme amount of patience he has with the Little Dragons(5 years olds). For us older folks, he allows us to modify any exercise or drill to meet our particular physical limitation or injury. We have one of the largest adult martial arts classes of all the Bushi Ban schools and I believe that is because Sensei Brakke makes our classes engaging and pertinent to real world situations. When people think of martial arts, they automatically picture people beating each other up, but it is nothing like that. We spend the majority of our time learning and practicing martial arts techniques. Some combative, some grappling, some esthetic forms. We have a separate sparring class for those that like to do more of the contact sport aspect(so far there has been no extra charge for the sparring classes). Before I joined, they let me attend 4 free classes(2 adult karate, and 2 power kickboxing) so I could decide if I wanted to join. I highly recommend that a person do both free classes before making a decision because each class can be very different from the next depending upon the particular curriculum covered that day. They let you wear regular work-out clothes for the free classes and they have loaner gloves for the power kickboxing class.
