Came for lunch with a friend. Parking is the worse in this area for lunch. That is the worse part. Ordered the yellowtail roll, miso soup, hot tea and edamame. The service is good and attentive. The soup came a little cold… she didn’t charge me because of it. The roll was tasty and I can’t wait to try others.

Some restaurants get it. As in, across the board they get it. Kotta does. Been here four times, everything, and that means everything, has been in the A to A+ category. Sushi? Masterful art. Even my daughter’s fried rice was stellar. Nacho Roll, Dayna Roll, Porkchop Delight Roll, fried rice: A+ Cherry Roll: A

Had the guns and roses roll, the volcano, and nacho roll. All of them were amazing but the nacho was the best. Definitely going back for that one. Place was really great Abby was our server and she was awesome and very helpful.

I have been frequenting this restaurant lately since they are the only Japanese restaurant open in my area in between lunch and dinner hours, I.e. between 230p and 5p. Their sushi is good and fresh no matter which day I visit, so they get four stars based on that alone. The last visit, I ordered their house salad. I was impressed with the portion and presentation. It was a pretty tasty and good sized salad for $ 4. Lastly, their service is right on – friendly and attentive. I have not had any of their entrees, appetizers or desserts but I’ll update my review if and when I do.

Sushi was delicious and high quality! Especially the super white tuna and yellowtail. Melted in your mouth. Also for a cheap roll the spicy tuna was nice. We didn’t get much else. Next time we will try some dessert! Owner was there to greet us at the door. Service was adequate but not super attentive.(7 out of 10). They have the best happy hour specials! Try it out then!

I give up on this place. There is just no reason why I need to devote a 90 minute lunch to this place when I only have an hour. How can service be so slow when the place is not crowded? I cant even figure out why it is so slow but I don’t plan on devoting more money to them. We had to tell our server we needed to get our order in as we had a meeting to get to. Otherwise not sure if he ever would have taken the order. Our ahi tower came pretty quick but at this point we had to take most of our food to go as there was not enough time to eat it. I don’t know if it is the servers or the sushi chefs but this is the only sushi place in the area that is this slow. And the tables are too small to have more than 2 dishes out at the same time and as they are not fast enough to move things out the way things pile up. At this point I stick to Blue Fish. If you only have an hour to spare you can totally get in and out of there with time to burn easily. And the quality of there food does not suffer for the quickness.

Just finished having an early dinner here. Atmosphere is nice, great date place. Nice low lighting, white tablecloths, friendly staff. They have a paper sushi roll menu you can order off of, but the menu is primarily meals and appetizers. They have a wine menu, cocktails and sake, but I didn’t see any beer selections in the menu, so maybe you have to request the options. Only thing I am knocking a star off for is service. While our server was nice, and did a great job of trying to upsell, she didn’t do quality checks, and didn’t refill our waters until the very end of the meal. While our seaweed salad(standard, but good) came out quickly, our simply spicy tuna roll(which was also good) took FOREVER to come out. And even though we ordered it before the next roll(the Pork Chop roll), it came out at the same time because she said the kitchen was backed up. Pork chop roll was awesome. This was a new, different type of roll that had ingredients in it I wasn’t sure I would like, but we loved it! The spicy chili sauce(which must have other ingredients in it) was SUPER good! I love to try new and different non rice rolls, and this one was a definite winner. While priced at 15.95, it was hefty and filled with good stuff, so with that roll, a spicy tuna roll and a seaweed salad, we were both pleasantly full without being stuffed. Would come back — hopefully the service improves…

Seriously? I am a long time customer of Kotta, I sometimes come here 3 times a week. I was just told yesterday that I can no longer ask for a certain waiter or waitress. WHAT? I have never had a restaurant tell me this. Since I come here so often, 3 of the servers(Nick, Jasmine and Abby) know me and they know what I like and take excellent care of me. Instead I got a waitress who screwed up, I didn’t bother to tell her what was wrong, too frustrated about it. This rating is for the owner of the restaurant for his HORRIBLE customer service. Most of the workers here are great, food is delish, but I may have to find a new favorite sushi place if this happens again.

Nice place, clean, service not the best but ok I have been there 3 times and it was the same all 3 times… they will seat u ok but it takes forever for the waiter to take your order… and once they do they rush you to eat, to pay to get their money and u can leave… I didn’t feel them at all. Sushi is ok nothing so special I only went there because a friend of mine lived close to there at the time now that she moved would never be be my choice again. sorry!

The family voted, and Kotta is the best sushi in Frisco. We come here often and it is our«go-to» sushi in north Dallas. Our favorites selections are the Mardi Gras roll and Nacho roll. The Mardi Gras roll surrounds a mound of spicy fried crawfish — it’s awesome. The Kotta Tower is also very popular as well. We started off with calamari which was great and even the kids enjoyed it. They have kids menu, but the boys are venturing ever so slowly into sushi! For drinks, this time I had an Asahi Black, a dark lager by definition which to me was somewhat watery and bland, so I switched to Kirin for the next round. So an okay beer selection but you’re really here for the sake, and they have a pretty good range of options there. Make sure it’s cold and not warm!

I don’t get what is SO special about this place. Reading through various Unilocal reviews and hearing such good things about this place, I decided to give it a try. From the minute I walked in, I felt out of place. Everyone was standing around and was not even greeted. Three girls who worked there were sitting down(looked as if they were getting ready to work) stared at me as I walked through the door. Finally, after a couple minutes one of them came over and asked«Can I help you?». Uhm… Excuse me? Yes you can, I would like a Table OMG. I wanted to walk out the door. Since I was already there, I thought I might as well try the food. It was my first time here and she goes«Oh, just choose anywhere» Okay? As if I know where. As I was seated, it took a while before my server came to the table. Maybe they were confused who’s turn it was? I was finally able to order my food. I ordered the Uni Sashimi, White Tuna Sashimi, Tuna Roll, Yellowtail Sashimi, and Tobiko Sushi. Just like every other sushi place, the sashimi was served chilled, over ice– making it seem fresh. However, it may have been TOO chilled. Being a sushi/sashimi lover, I’ve tried various places and have had many dishes before. I must say the Uni wasn’t the freshest. Normally, it has a slightly sweet taste to it. However, mine came nearly frozen and was tasteless. The White Tuna sashimi was cold to the bite of it. I asked for ponzu sauce to give it some flavoring, I guess you could say it was very«fresh» right? Tuna roll was basic, and decent. Enough rice and perfect amount of tuna so no complaints there. The Yellowtail sushi was soggy? I don’t think Sashimi should be that way. Tobiko sushi was superb. Their prices were decent. A bit pricy on most of the sashimi plates. Walked out spending near $ 80? If I remembered correctly. Throughout my time there, I was checked on maybe twice? But that was about it. My server was no where to really be found. Another server(a guy) who was taking care of a table next to mine, actually checked on me MORE. He even cleared off my plates !! Took a while though. I stacked my plates and left it in the corner. My drink was near empty before it was refilled. Coming in at a lunch time, it wasn’t any where near busy. Took about 10 – 15 minutes until my server came back and noticed I was done and asked me for my check. I must say, overall, I would return, but highly not anytime soon. Food: 3 Stars(Only because I liked the Tuna Roll) Service: 2 Stars Ambiance: 5 Stars(Great atmosphere and décor) Price: 3 Stars

Fresh & delicious. I wasn’t going to join my dad & his friends for dinner tonight bc I wasn’t really hungry, but was swayed with the promise of uni. And oh, was there uni! We ordered 4 uni sushi, bluefin tuna & baby yellowtail sashimi(pity they were out of toro!), miso sea bass, and hamachi kama. Best sashimi I have ever had, hands down! And this is coming from not-very-hungry me! The sea bass and hamachi kama were good, but nothing to rave about. I also got a uni shooter, which was uni, quail egg yolk, black masago, cucumber, and chives in a cold sake shot. It’s the first time I’ve ever had one — would recommend! It was a relatively full shot so it was difficult to get all ingredients in one swig, but I prevailed! The ingredients complemented the uni nicely — gave it a nice dry sweetness. Cocktails were okay, nothing spectacular. Didn’t try rolls or dessert. It’s a little bit pricey, but I truly enjoyed my dinner. Would come back for the sushi/sashimi; kitchen food only for some variety.

People listen. This place is the real deal. First of all I rate sushi based on 1. Freshness of fish and 2. Potency of wasabi. Lol. This place wins in both. They have some unique options: they serve a pickled diced wasabi as topping to some sushi rolls. Yum. Also they have a house smoked salmon that is amazing. Has a smoky flavor but keeps the sweetness of the fish. There is a hidden menu of sorts(ask for the white tiger roll) and their signature sauce(like the Jackie Chan roll) is spectacular. They have the perfect mix of traditional rolls and special options that you will want to come back to try. Be advised. Friday and Saturday is busy. Get in early(opentable) or pay the price. Oh and you might accidentally pick up a wife or a girlfriend on the weekends if you’re not careful. Lol Sushi up!!!

This is a great little place if you like to eat sushi on a lazy Sunday afternoon and it not be crowded and noisy. Go on a weekend night and it’s super packed and ultra noisy. But that’s probably every restaurant anywhere on a weekend. :) The food and drinks are phenomenal and I have eaten sushi at a lot of places. I did go one time and it smelled really fishy, but have since been back and that doesn’t seem to be an issue. The décor is warm and romantic.(except for aforementioned loud and crowded weekends). If you go on a weekend, be prepared to sit SUPER close to anyone next to you. The tables almost touch. You will be able to hear your neighbors conversation in lurid detail.

Went in for«Happy Hour» but didn’t leave happy. Sushi was okay but the bar was disappointing = Shiner is not on HH Beer list because it’s — get this — «imported» …what?! I didn’t realize Shiner’s Texas brewery is actually located in a foreign country. Give me a break — that earns a face palm eye roll combo. My wife ordered a Long Island Tea & was lead to believe it was at HH discount price — bonk! Wrong. We didn’t complain because the bartender seemed to possibly suffer multiple personality disorder as his mood swings reflected switches from one to the other — we feared we might get a bad spin and end up complaining to the not so nice guy residing in his head.(But!) we got even the passive aggressive way! = No Tip for You! = you bought our drinks! Thank you MPD dude! Plenty of Sushi joints around the metro = we won’t go back.

Sticking with a 3.5 rating on this one… This place is near my office and when I crave Japanese, this is the place to go. Their lunch pricing is fair and the flavor is pretty good! I like the fact that they even offer a 2 or 3 roll combo for lunch! What an awesome idea! The pros: + Fresh ingredients + Fresh fish + Eel + Udon The cons: — Slow service — Overpriced rolls when ordering not part of combo — Tea isn’t included. what kind of Japanese place is this. oh wait, I’m in Frisco… Overall, I think this place definitely has areas of opportunity. But when I’m craving for a few rolls, I know where I’ll head in Frisco!

The sushi chef was very friendly and accommodating to our special«Yama Gobo» request. The cold sake«Karatamba» was a great recommendation from the waiter Ricky. Happy hour drinks are good too.

A coworker has been urging me to come here since I moved to Frisco and I can’t believe I waited this long to try! I’m usually not a huge fan of crazy toppings and unreasonably intricate sushi rolls. HOWEVER, the Guns and Roses roll was seriously delicious and I’m already excited to come back again! The specialty rolls are a bit pricey but knowing that I have a huge appetite for sushi, I also ordered a spicy salmon roll to go with it(and not burn the hell out of my education-salary pocket). I forgot the waiter’s name but he was fantastic too! Very attentive, kind and prompt. The environment is fun too for a date night or girls night out. Probably going to come back for some drinks next time :)

Amazing rolls, fantastic service(Charlene! Best server ever!), great drinks, delicious dessert. We showed up a little too early for our Friday night reservation and ended up being seated immediately at a great table on the patio under a heat lamp. It was perfect. Charlene took our drink orders quickly. I had a Bananzai(you’ll like this if you like banana drinks), hubs had what he referred to as «man-gria»(vodka with red wine and lime — can’t remember what it was called on the menu). I actually ended up ordering one of what hubs had for my second round and WHOA holy mother of strong! Good, but strong. And honestly, at $ 8 the drinks were both cheap compared to cocktails at other nearby restaurants. We got edamame and miso soup to start. Both were pretty standard but done well here. Then we ordered the Guns & Roses, Midnight, and Yo Mama rolls. OMG amaaaazing! My absolute favorite was the Midnight roll but the others were both delicious and fresh. But man, I could eat nothing but that Midnight roll for the rest of my life and be happy. Seriously. We had room for just a little more at the end of our meal so we asked Charlene to recommend a dessert. She recommended the Kotta funnel cake. I’m not kidding, we inhaled this in less than 2 minutes. It was that good. Don’t be afraid of the fact that it’s got tempura sweet potatoes. It was scrumptious. Worth the $$. Great for date night but there were families with kids there, too. Highly recommend.
