Love this place so much! Always so fresh and everyone is so nice. Amazing sushi! Only down fall is that the restaurant is so tiny, but the coziness is great :) Try the Jackie Chan roll! #Fave

Before I start my review, I just want to point out its nice that Tomo management actually reads what customers have to say about them on Unilocal.I read a review somebody posted about electric plugs close to the benches. Well, when I was there tonight, that issue has been resolved by installing kid safe electric outlet plugs. It’s refreshing that Tomo management truly cares. Here is my review of the place… Well it’s about time. It’s about time we finally get an awesome sushi joint this side of the 121. We stumbled on this small cozy sushi place while on our way to uptown for some sushi. Instead of crawling on a completely clogged tollway, we decided to give this place a shot… and boy are we glad we did. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was the modern décor and warm colors. The place is very small with only 6 tables and 3 seats at the sushi bar. All in all, 20 customers at once, tops. One member in our party is a strict vegetarian. I asked sushi chef Andy what he can do for us instead of the typical cucumber, avocado, and veggie rolls. He said he just got fresh veggie and fruits in the morning run and will make some«not on the menu» veggie rolls for us(a pseudo veggie omakase if you will). The first veggie roll was wrapped in cucumber sheet on a bed of seaweed salad. The second roll was in soy paper. Whatever he wrapped in these rolls were super fresh and super yummy. We also ordered a avocado roll, soft shell crab roll(spider roll), Jacky Chan roll, Tomo roll, summer roll, turtle roll, and Salmon sashimi. The sashimi was 6 beautifully thick cut of salmon. Very fresh and delicious. The jacky chan roll had special crab mix topped with guacamole and tuna with Tomo’s special house spicy ponzu sauce. The Tomo is fresh greens with crab mix, avocado, salmon, and tuna wrapped in rice sheet covered in the house spicy ponzu sauce. Folks, let me tell you, that house spicy ponzu sauce is fantastic. In fact, I find myself dipping everything in their special sauce. Yes, it is that good. Another thing I noticed was their rice. It’s perfectly cook down to each individual grain and married together with his special mix of rice seasoning. The entire dinner was beautifully presented and professionally wrapped. Everything was delicious but I have to say The Jacky Chan definitely took home the prize. Chef Andy and the staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I think I just found my new sushi joint!

My first impression: Very friendly service, feels like home. Only setback is the space is too small. I went there with my 2 kids and we hardly could move our arms to eat. I almost split the drinks on my lab. Thick cut salmon, and good portion of food.

A hidden gem! This place is really small BUT the food is BIG in taste! We ordered Salmon, Ebi & Tuna Nigiri Sushi! Large fresh pieces of Salmon & Tuna that required 2 bites to take down! The Ebi was a little diff from other places I’ve eaten! I don’t know what they do that’s different but the Ebi has a delicious flavor & not fishy smelling! Also had the Jackie chan roll… so tasty & perfectly sized. Not ginormous and messy as I’ve had at other places. For appetizer I ordered edamame sprinkled with sea salt and pepper! I ended with Ramen in house pork broth, roast pork & soft boiled egg! Very delicious! The staff was attentive and so friendly! My glass was never empty of soda BUT it’s BYOB! This restaurant is very clean and while small very cozy!

Amazing sashimi! Thick cut and fresh. The ahi, salmon, and super white tuna melts in your mouth. The bento boxes are such a great deal, especially to share. The ahi tower is wonderful too. Hope this place stays for good in Frisco. It’s a small place but the ambience is nice. I also love the music. I love the 80’s and 90’s so I catch myself singing along. Kids loved everything and a tip, definitely ask for sushi rice for the bento box. Love it here!

Excellent service. Delicious food. Really good green tea. for my cold. I had the ramen noodle soup with pork. It was prefect temperature. And it was delicious. Perfect for someone feeling a cold coming on. The bulgolgi bento box was tender and very tasty!!! The kids shared the stir fried udon noodles with shrimp and chicken. It was good and tasty too. This place is cozy and small. Definitely a great place to go to for some quiet eating and personal good service.

this place is very cozy(small) so be prepare to wait at rush hour or make a reservation =) like many others I went b/c friends were posting photos of their sushi and we decided to try them out the owners and wait staffs are extremely friendly and they are Taiwanese to our surprise! which is great to support Taiwanese business owners… ok onto the food for kitchen food we got the tonkatsu /and ramen … both were just so so it wasn’t bad nor good it was avg. but this place truly shines on their sushi!!! nigiri /sushi /rolls … all were beautifully made and authentic and fresh!!! especially their sweet shrimp the size is great! and it’s very tasty!!! their Sashimi have a very authentic cut /size! if you ate sashimi/sushi in Japan before you know what I’m talking about… it’s THICK not like Arby’s roast beef but like whataburger in comparison ha =P we truly enjoyed our experience there dining, food, environment and chatting with the servers and owner.(two kitchen food we loved the grilled squid this was very yummy!!! and their hamachi kama was very generous in size and was grilled just right *drooling* just thinking about it) solid 4.5 stars…-0.5 for some just average kitchen food items!!! everyone please go visit them!!! they’re wonderful people that serves amazing food!!! PS they’re BYOB~

Very good sushi quality(rolls and nigiri), so that’s really the most important thing. Friendly staff as well. Oh, a very small dining room, which is fine, just don’t expect to seat big parties. Here’s the thing… the dining room is new and nice, but the ambiance is just terrible. First, they had the absolute worst 80s terrible pop music playing. I’m talking Soft Cell and other horrible songs blasting while I was eating. Who is in charge of the music there? Tip: a subscription costs $ 10 a month. It’s just plain tacky to have Internet radio commercials playing every three songs… come on guys. I’m not saying you have to play Japanese music… but how about something even a little hip. Second, turn the lights down! Your dining room is tiny, so dimming the lights considerably creates a private feel… otherwise all the tables are just staring at each other… while Dexy’s Midnight Runners blast over the speakers. If y’all paid as much mind to ambiance as you did the sushi, this place might actually turn into a spot. Other than that I have no opinion.

OK– So when I originally drove by this place, I looked at it kind of sideways because of the location and size, but I have kept it in the back of my mind to check out reviews once it had been around for a few months. Just went for lunch and everything I had was fantastic! i am a bit critical when it comes to sushi, but this place is a gem for Frisco! I’ll keep this short, but they don’t skimp on the cuts of fish, it was very fresh, and the service was perfect! I can’t wait to take the family back with me and get adventurous! P. S.- I agree with other Unilocalers that the peppered tuna is addicting!

Went here with the family. The restaurant is very tiny but cute. We decided on the Black Dragon, Ultimate Alaskan, Louisiana roll, salmon sashimi, and a chicken Katsu bentonite box for the kids. Everything tastes really good. Will come back.

Wow! Soooo tasty and fresh. This is a legit little Japanese place with very few tables and very friendly service. I had a bulgogi bento box for lunch and ate every last bite of it. I was full but didn’t feel gross. All bento boxes come with your choice of a house roll. I chose the Philly roll, and all 4 pieces of it were yummy and the fish was so very fresh. The bulgogi was perfectly seasoned. The salad was fairly typical, and the miso soup was the perfect temperature when served. The only thing that could have used a little more seasoning was the tempura, but the batter was nice and light so the underseasoning was forgivable. Service was a teeny bit on the slow side at the beginning, but they kept water glasses full and were quick with the check when we asked. There’s a short kids menu available. I will definitely return.

I would think that Tomo would be a fancy Japanese restaurants. I have seen many friends posted the pic of their sushi, I decided to take my kids there. At first we walk in, in my heard thinking«that’s it!?» Not what I expected as big fancy restaurant but It’s was small, 6 tables cozy little restaurant. We had order few to try. Seriously, I never has seen a thickness of the Sashimi. Few words I can described is that Tomo is the best in town! Good quality sashimi, great chef, friendly waitress. Actually It is my second time go back within a week love their sushi

Frisco is lucky to have this absolutely fantastic Japanese place in town. My family loves it because the menu is kid friendly and my wife and I can chow down on the best sushi around. The people running the restaurant are charming and kind. If Tomo isn’t successful, my faith in humanity will be seriously marred. When ordering, I’m not sure you can go wrong. We haven’t. The highlight for me so far has been the pepper tuna. We had to order more… we were shocked at how good it was. We like the sashimi Bento box for some variety and to share. The fish tastes so fresh and it’s cut to a perfect thickness. All the rolls we’ve had have been good, although we haven’t worked our way up to the more adventurous ones that have things like guacamole or mango in them. We might get there one day. Honestly, we can just binge on pepper tuna and everything will be okay. For kids, they have a decent selection of bowls that should please even the pickiest eaters. Chicken nuggets? Japanese style??? Yes. Our kiddo goes for the chicken teriyaki bowl and always manages to finish without any encouragement. Can I say anything negative about this place? Not really. It’s small, and that’s all I can think of. If you don’t mind sitting close to your neighbor or waiting if it’s busy, then no problem! If this concerns you, order to-go! Also, they don’t sell booze here. Sorry Unilocalers! But you know what? It’s okay, cause this place is BYOB.

We live in Saudi Arabia and came back to visit family last week. Friends took us to Tomo and honestly we weren’t expecting much. We’ve been to so many Japanese restaurants and buffets in Dallas but have never had anything too memorable. However, we were impressed!(mind you, we lived in Taiwan, Los Angeles, then Houston, so we know good food!) While I cannot comment on the authenticity of Tomo(since I’m not Japanese and has never been to Japan), I do love Tomo for its originality, taste, and presentation. They provide freshly made wasabi on request, and all of their sauces are made by the chef himself. I’ve worked in restaurants before and rarely now do you see these sauces created and prepared so delicately. I highly recommend Turtle Roll, Jackie Chan roll, and Tuna Tower. Just by the way he presents his dishes, you know the chef takes pride in his work and he puts a lot of efforts into creating these dishes. If this is not«authentic», I’m not sure what is. All in all, do give this place a try. If you are looking for something that resembles Jiro Dreams of Sushi, well go to Japan lol. But if you are looking for quality and lots of flavors, you will love Tomo. Whenever we go back to Dallas, we will keep coming back for more of those turtle rolls for sure!

Food — 3 Service — 3 Value — 3 Not sure why the high ratings for this place. While the fish is fresh, the sum of the ingredients do not make the dishes into something more than just fresh ingredients put together. Most of the dishes lacked soul — the ramen was served with warm broth and was flavorless mostly even though the egg was soft boiled just right(it was nice of them to give us a half of egg for each of the two of us). Our waitress missed two rolls that we ordered, and then they brought a wrong order to our table — there was only one other table occupied at the time they made that mistake. I thought the turtle roll was something kind of cool that I hadn’t seen before, but other than that none of the other stuff we ordered wasn’t anything special. With all the other great sushi options in this area, we probably won’t be coming back here anytime soon.

I went to Tomo Sushi for the second time today during its Grand Opening week. It ends on Saturday the 19th, so hurry in! Like I said I would, I tried their sweet shrimp along with some other items. If you’re a sweet shrimp fan, you MUST try them here. I’d recommend getting the sashimi version instead of sushi, because it should really be tasted by itself. I also like that the sushi chef uses yuzu leaf for squid and scallop sushi. They were great. The salmon donburi(very generous portion for $ 13) was delicious. Sushi rice was better flavored today, but it wasn’t as soft as last time. If I could get the texture of the rice from the first visit and the flavor of the rice from this visit, then it’ll be set! My husband ordered the volcano roll, and he said it was really good. Our favorite volcano roll in town is from Daan in Grapevine, TX. the volcano roll at Tomo Sushi is a close second. We’ll ask for it without Sriracha next time. I am still super impressed by the freshness of the fish! It seems like they added one additional waitress, and the restaurant was full by the time we were almost done with dinner.

Found Tomo through Unilocal and was excited to try them since their grand opening specials looked really yummy plus they were super cheap! Their specials were $ 5 for a mini serving of the turtle roll, agedashi tofu, and cucumber salad and for $ 3 you get mini tornado roll, harumaki, and seaweed salad. I got both which were super yummy, the turtle roll was plated beautifully and will probably be my go to roll next time I come. I also ordered the«ultimate Alaskan roll» which was a California roll covered with salmon and avocado and topped with house made ponzu sauce, super yummy as well. Tempura ice cream is one of my favorite desserts, like ever. They offered green tea and vanilla, I believe they ran out of red bean which is unfortunate since it’s my favorite flavor but, the green tea was still really good. The large scoop of ice cream was covered in Chinese pound cake, dipped in tempura batter and fried till golden. They topped it with whipped cream and a cherry. Recommended! The restaurant is a little on the small side, plus I was the only customer when I went, so service was really attentive, a little too attentive but I would rather have them over attentive than less. My server was also super nice. Yummy sushi, great plating, I will be back!

So we stumbled upon this little gem while hunting down a refreshing eatery to pamper my sushi craving. Never in a hot summer’s night have we been met with a nicer staff at a boutique sushi house. The place may be a newcomer to the Stonebriar neighborhood, but the chef is a seasoned artisan when it comes to engineering tuna towers and embellishing sweet shrimp nigiri. Dialog overheard amongst the Taiwanese-speaking staff was whimsical and divulged their passion in the establishment and the fresh, delectable fare that they serve… I can go on for a few more paragraphs, but perhaps you should just stop reading and go experience it for yourself!
