I and four friends stayed here on our third night(5÷20÷15) of a week long AT section hike. Lisa greeted us with a warm welcome and glasses of iced lemonade. The ‘cabbin’ is a bit small by some standards, but it was plenty roomy enough for our group and it was just what we all needed; a hot shower, comfortable beds and a delivered Italian dinner from nearby Front Royal. Scott would normally cook breakfast, but we opted to prepare our own from the well stocked frig and pantry items included in the nightly price. Snacks, such as Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in the freezer, were available on an honor system. WiFi was available for those needing to stay in touch with the outside world. Overall, a very pleasant stay. Can’t wait to see the rest of the property renovated to a full feature B&B. Well done Lisa & Scott.

This is a really great place, but there are some things that the traveler needs to be aware of. First, the old mansion is being renovated, so travelers stay in a small outbuilding which has the whimsical name of The Cabbin, a historic mis-spelling by a child on the property in the 19th century. The Cabbin is a small building that once was used for courts on a circuit. The ground floor is a small kitchen and dining area, with a curtained off double bed and sofa. The upstairs(steep narrow stairway) is a four-bed dorm with the bathroom. The room is nicely laid out but still a co-ed dorm. Folks used to hostels will have no problem with this arrangement. A great feature is that each bed has a small bed light that focuses directly on what you’re reading. Genius! The bathroom is small but very nicely appointed. The beds are comfortable. The place is very clean. Breakfast is a treat. You can order a main dish: eggs to order, pancakes, oatmeal, or cold cereal. And the pancakes come with real-from-the-tree maple syrup, a rarity in the food service business! The owners go out of their way to serve healthful and organic food. I had both scrambled eggs and pancakes during my two-night stay. The owners are very present and helpful. A few words about the surrounding area. Shenandoah National Park is right around the corner with all of its great hiking trails. There are a number of excellent restaurants for lunches and dinners. The famous Appalachian Trail crosses Remount Drive just a couple hundred feet away. And there are several Civil War sites within an easy drive.
