Been once, burger was fantastic. Onion rings were even better! Can’t wait to try the icecream and shakes. Yum!

This place is great! The double burger and cheese fries that I got was a treat after the 5 mile hike through Shenandoah. The burger had a little to much salt for my taste but the bun and other condiments were in a perfect ratio for a top 5 burger.

Gitchoo a CAVEBurger! If you are within 30 – 40 miles of Front Royal, VA, hie thee to Spelunkers and order a Caveburger with Cheese. If you are hungry, skip the fries and other accessories and order TWO Caveburgers. This is the best burger for the money within 500 miles, probly more. In fact it is a steal, at a price which is close to its nearby neighbor, McDonalds. But this burger is in a whole nother category. My fingers are watering as I type this. If I were not an hour away from Spelunkers right now, I would drop everything and just go and get… … [slight 2 hour interruption]… Okay, I am back! I couldn’t stand it. I was in Purcellville, VA typing this review and my sensory rememberizer kicked in and reminded me that A) it is waaaay past lunchtime and B) how good those two CB’s w/C were on Saturday, and I just locked up. My fingers got wet. The front of my shirt started spontaneously sprouting blooms of that incredible juice that emanates from every Caveburger, that ooooommmm good grill scent started wafting out of my computer, and I had to simply give in. So, I just R-U-N-N-O-F-T to Spelunkers over the mountains, and down I66, fetched me up two brand-spanking new CBs w/Cheese, clumb back into my muddy SUV and headed back to Purcellville, hoping that I would not get cotched by the interstate food police, nor my boss back at the warehouse. And here I am back – a two hour round trip. I should change my shirt though. It now has magical Caverburger juice all over the front of it! Now, I know you can go to Melt in Leesburg, VA and getchoo a really good burger. Even a DAMNED good burger. Surely, also, one of the best. But you will pay dearly for it, at least in burger dollars. And by all means, if you are in or around Leesburg, you should. You definitely should. But for less than $ 5, I defy anyone to match the quality and taste of the CaveBurger with Cheese. Simply incredible!

If greasy Burgers is what you’re looking for you have found the place. It’s also pretty dirty and grimy inside. No can do

Great thin burger. Seared on the outside, juicy in the middle. Fries were good too if you like a thinner(but not thin) Five Guys type fry. Definitely a go-to for us when we are in the area. My only negative would be that both the burger and fries were over seasoned/salted. I’m not a fan of the under seasoned, salt missing on the table experience we usually have here in DC but this was a bit much on the salt seasoning.

I go here every time I visit Shenandoah. Awesomeeeee burger and fries. They don’t freeze the meat and they make their own fries. I actually get more excited about eating here than seeing the view.

I’m going to be honest here for a minute. This was the best burger I’ve had in quite a long time. It was cooked perfectly with the seasonings just right. Lately, I feel like I’ve been having to salt my burgers from other restaurants. I can say that this was was perfect. The fries were great, and the onions rings were spot on. Everyone in my family thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We live about an hour away from here, and I’m serious when I say that I would drive back there just to eat one another of their burgers. It was super busy when we arrived at noon on a Saturday, but we were given a number and within 10 minutes our meal was at our table. The employees were super friendly and understanding when we added and took away from the toppings on our burgers. We decided to hit the drive through on our way out for some custard, which was also spot on! They have chocolate, vanilla and a flavor of the day. Our FOTD was Caramel Cashew which was good, and full of cashews. Yum. We will be back. No doubt.

This place is amazing. Leaving skyline drive we decided to stop and didn’t expect to have a great dinner and great service. Highly recommend this place for all. The cashier(unfortunately I didn’t get her name) was very patient with my kids changing their orders ten different times. On the way out she allowed my four year old to make her own waffle cone. I wished we lived closer because they would have more service from our family.

We were visiting the caverns and were starving. We took a chance and stopped on our return home. We had the cheese steaks and cheeseburgers and OMG they were delicious!!! I am particular about my cheesesteak. I don’t like grizzle. This was chopped up perfectly and the cheese was dripping off. Amazing flavor and reasonably priced. It was actually much cheaper than I expected. My new go to place if I am in the area!

At 1:00 on a Friday in the end of July this place was hopping. The parking lot was an absolute mad house and we got one of the only two available parking spots. Was able to order pretty quickly. $ 30 for three people and two shakes. A little steep for a fast food place in my opinion but not bad. I wasn’t really in the mood for a burger so I got their chicken fingers which I thought looked good when an employee passed me with some to take to a table. My sister also go chicken fingers. My dad got their bacon cavern burger with onion rings. We also got one peach shake and one Oreo shake. I didn’t really care all that much for either shake and they almost seemed like they had been sitting out and had melted down a bit before they were brought to us. While the place was packed and their weren’t many table options, the tables were pretty clean. The food was out decently fast for how busy it was. My dads burger looked pretty good. A pretty good looking thick burger patty. But he said it was too salty. The fries and onion rings were nothing special. Not great. Not bad. Just fine. The chicken fingers seemed over cooked and were also on the salty side. Since we ask for to-go they put the tenders in styrofoam boxes but the tenders were so hot they melted the boxes a bit. Not exactly appetizing. I would probably give them one more shot and try to go when they aren’t busy, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for them.

It was hot this past weekend. Real hot. The kind of heat that fills you with dread, especially after having been outdoors for nearly 8 hours the previous day. Enter the cold, creamy delight that was Spelunkers Custard Ice Cream. Better than Rita’s. And that is saying a lot. Can’t wait to try them again when I am back in the area. Only thing, I know this is basically a fast food joint… but the restaurant was really really messy. A few of the empty tables were dirty, fabric on the chairs was ripped, and the bathroom was gross. So my quick ice cream fix was even quicker.

Stop by here for lunch because everyone craves a good burger especially fresh and not frozen patties. The setup reminds me of an old school fast food chain establishment. The menu ranges from hot dogs, cheese steaks, burgers and dessert! I ordered the double crave burger w/cheese and fries. The bun on the burger is lightly buttered and toasted. The patty isn’t too thick and too thin, great size, with a good char and very very juicy(prepare yourself to eat this while sitting at a table with tons of napkins, please do not attempt to eat this while driving). The fries are perfectly cooked and delicious. They offer vinegar and ketchup condiments as well. I was so full that i could not even dare try the various custard flavors they had. The staff here is really friendly. The service is great. Upon ordering they give you a number where you can sit down and they will bring you your food on a tray.

Spelunker’s is a fast-food/drive-thru eatery that is known for their burgers and frozen custard in the Front Royal area. I just think the name of the place as well as how they name some of their items is just so cute, giving a homage to the Luray Caverns. The menu also offers cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and combo deals. I tried a Junior Cavern Cheeseburger with all the fixings(the beef patty was juicy and fresh, as they grind their beef daily; the burger included lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, ketchup, mustard, and mayo, topped with a sesame seed bun; the burger reminded me of a Culver’s mixed with Burger King(because of their sesame buns)); a Strawberry Gelati(Italian ice, topped with a dollop of vanilla frozen custard); a Lemon Gelati(Italian ice, topped with a dollop of vanilla frozen custard); and, their Sweet Tea. I preferred the Lemon Gelati over the Strawberry, as the latter was a little too sweet for me; the Lemon one was very refreshing and pretty tasty. The Sweet Tea was just okay, but you can’t beat a drink that was less than 70c! Service was very friendly, and since the burgers and such are made-to-order, you may get a number to put on your dashboard for someone to bring out your food when you use the drive-thru. I’d like to try out their cheesesteaks and their hot dogs next time! +value meals +Lemon Gelati +friendly staff: D +check online for coupons/deals

This place just blew up my summer hiking plans. Now that I know about this amazing frozen custard spot, conveniently located on the drive back to DC from the Shenandoah National Park, it is going to be difficult to explore any other trail networks. In addition to vanilla, chocolate, and a plethora of mix-ins and toppings, Spelunker’s also offers a flavor of the day. When we were there, it was Rice Krispie Treat — marshmallow fluff and rice crisp cereal folded into vanilla custard. Because they mix it up to order, the cereal bits stay nice and crunchy. They also make their own waffle cones, because wafer cones are for chumps. My lovely hiking companion had the Rice Krispie Treat custard in one of those amazing waffle cones, while I tried a scoop each of chocolate and vanilla, topped with a killer pecan caramel sauce. Another restaurant patron took one look at our gooey frozen treats and said«Well, there go those figures.» Maybe so, but with frozen custard this good, we’ll take our chances.

The burgers were excellent, well cooked and juicy at the same time. The ice cream was delicious, I can’t stop thinking about it, I think I’m in love. The guy that took our order was very nice and patient on explaining us the menu and options. It is the first time in my life that the actual food looks better than the pictures in the menus. We drove an hour from Fairfax to get there, buy it was worth since food and service was great and the area is beautiful for sight seen. A must stop if going to Luray Caverns. PD For some reason the place reminded me to the 70’s, which for me was added value :)

Stopped at Spelunkers on the way to Luray Caverns. Despite it being busy lunchtime the line moved quickly and food came fast. Very clean with fresh flowers on the tables. Unusual for fast food. I had chicken tenders which were helpfully not breaded or greasy but just seasoned breast meat chicken. Everyone liked their meal. The colonel also had the tenders plus a root beer float. Babyman had Italian sausage sandwich and a vanilla shake. Larkus had a giant ass burger and split chili cheese fries with the B. The chili was likely made there while cheese was from a pump(as is proper). The colonel had onion rings that were better than average being the battered kind not the thin ones though I like thin ones best. M pronounced his burger in and out like. Bathroom also nice and clean.
