Stopped in for lunch after driving Skyline Drive. I had the James Madison sandwich on wheat which was so yummy. The avocado and bacon along with the grilled chicken were so flavorful. My date had the Reuben which he equally enjoyed. Has a quaint atmosphere. Definitely would go back!

great sandwiches! @ favorites are the«wildcat» and their club. The club is huge! My wife and I usually end up sharing it, and we are plenty full. Also, something I love at any deli, they include a tasty, cold, crunchy pickle with the sandwich… very important. Who wants a soggy nasty pickle! They have a great selection of sides, and specials every day… great place to stop on main street.

I had the wildcat sandwich on rye with macaroni salad, for $ 9. The macaroni salad was the bomb. The sandwich had buttery bread, was warm with melted cheese. High quality meat. Local sandwich shop atmosphere with low quality tables and chairs. Highly recommend for lunch.

We live about 40 miles from Front Royal and enjoy taking the scenic drive every so often. We have eaten here 3 or 4 times in the past few years, and it was always crowded. Today, though, we were the only customers, right at prime lunchtime. Other times, we’ve walked in and the place smelled delicious; today, no aroma at all. We each ordered soup, and an Italian sub to share. The soup was obviously from a can, and none too hot. The meat on the sandwich was fresh and plentiful, but the bread was cold, from the fridge, and the«herb mayo“was made with dried Italian seasoning which gave it an odd taste. I don’t know if these are new owners, but they are not keeping the place very clean. The floor was sticky, the bathroom has spills and handprints that were obviously old, and the soda bar needed a good wash-up. We like patronising locally owned businesses rather than chains, but we’ll have to cross this one off our list.

It doesn’t look like much when coming off the highway, and being situated at the corner of Dismal Hollow Road doesn’t exactly bump it up a notch, but The Apple House Deli turned out alright as a lunch stop for four hungry folks from away. A series of sandwiches got ordered, served, and consumed and each was acceptable or better. BBQ, smoked ham, and chicken all fine. Fries pretty good. Cole slaw runny and uninteresting but fresh enough. Portions all good sized. An indoor seating area had a camp-porch kind of feel. Another space, empty of people, looked more like a dining room. Tables were also available outside. We poked around the«general store,» a tourist-targeting assemblage of stuff, but didn’t find it necessary to buy anything. This place has local flavor and funky appeal. You probably won’t be blown away, but you also probably won’t be disappointed as long as you keep your expectations in check.

Hubby and I used the Unilocal app to once again find a hidden gem. The Apple House Deli in Front Royal is a little place with big bite. Try the Cuban… bread is fresh and the sandwich is piled high with juicy pork and ham. The creamy potato salad side dish is simply craveable with tangy sweetness. I need the greener nourishment and the corn bread salad was perfect. I elected to order my salad minus the cornbread. This is a huge salad loaded with fresh crunchy greens, black beans, tomatos, corn, and cheese. I could only finish half of it… really good. Friendly customer service! This is a small deli… I don’t recommend large parties go in for a sit down. There is a kids menu. Pricing is reasonable for the huge portion sizes.

Get the homemade stuff– the pumpkin soup is delicious. We happened upon this place after a morning hiking on skyline drive, and were pleasantly surprised by the variety and homemade quality. Also toddler friendly.

Note from a local. Have had lunch here many times. Usually full of tourists, but they know a good thing, especially during the fall. Sandwiches fresh and delicious. Good prices. The service is always friendly and kind. The souvenir food shop is interesting and reasonable. Many hard to find and local items. Good plc for lunch or take away.

Jumped in here for lunch the other day. What struck me first of all were the friendly people working there, who were really patient while I debated forever which sandwich to get. I finally got the club without mayonnaise, and it was great: The lunch meat and cheese tasted very fresh(and I’m really picky about such things), and the accompanying kettle chips/pickle were very tasty! At almost $ 10 for a sandwich, it was pricey, but for an occasional really good/special to-go lunch, this is the deli to hop to!

I work near the Apple House Deli, and go for a quick lunch about once a month. The staff is very friendly, and the food is always VERY fresh. My favorites are the John Marshall, and the Main Street.

The ambience is typical deli-style, but the food is noteworthy. I had one of the best reuben sandwiches at the Apple House Deli! There is lots of side street parking. The lady taking our order was very friendly. The sandwich came with a small side salad, pickle, and a drink. Price are very reasonable. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, but something that tastes good and fills your stomach-make sure you visit the Apple House Deli.
