I just went by there too… they are CLOSED. I just found them not long ago thanks to Unilocal… and now that I finally had a place that served GREAT chicken… absolutely the BEST… their closed. Unreal. What happened!!! I have a feeling it was just a POOR location for them… you couldn’t see the place from the street. Hell… I live around the block on Commonwealth and I had NOIDEA they were there ALL this time. They needed to advertise… put some flyers out. I would of never known had I not used Unilocal. I go over to that strip mall to my pool guy«Nobles» and I still never saw Pollo De Oro. If the owners are out there and reading this… just wanted you to know me and my husband MISSYOUALREADY. You had the best chicken around… it was to die for. So tender, juicy and delicious. I’m hungry just thinking about it. If you guys find a way to re-open and I pray you do… GETTHEWORD out that your there… I swear… if ppl try your chicken just once… they will come back. I just don’t think enough ppl could see you from the street… bad location. I hope you guys find a way to get back to your business… no one around here can compare in my opinion. Take care! I’ll be looking for you just in case! Jan

As others have said — good chicken, good rice. I would definitely eat here before getting chicken at a fast-food type chicken place. The prices are wallet-friendly and the people are nice. I don’t think that it is spectacular, and I wouldn’t drive a long distance for it, but it is what my rating reflects — a-ok. If you are nearby and need something to eat, this would be a solid choice.

There’s not much I can add to what everyone else has already said other than BEST. CHICKEN. EVER. I would actually order a plate of the skin alone if they served it, it’s just that good. Beats El Pollo Loco by miles. So tender and moist, it practically fell off the bone. We ordered a family meal with a whole chicken, beans, rice, tortillas and potato salad and had plenty to take home for leftovers. The rice was delicious and even had chunks of chicken mixed in and the beans were the best I’ve ever had outside of mom’s kitchen. The lady behind the counter was really friendly and helpful, and our food came out really fast. This place is the true definition of hidden gem!

They’re located on Chapman in this old strip mall. The place is tiny; a couple of tables and they have plastic patio furniture they’ll put out if you ask for it so you can eat outside. Two words: Giant burrito. There was simply no way I was going to finish it. Giant! I found the chicken here good, I will definitely have to try their rotisserie chicken when I’m in the mood for some. Prices were decent for lunch(friend paid for me, yay!) I’ll definitely be going back again when the mood warrants it.

Small hole in the wall gem ! By far better than Pollo Loco. I have been eating here since it opened up a couple of years ago, and have continued to frequent this fine eatery at least 3 times a month. The chicken is mouth-watering juicy and the lime provided with your meal adds a great zing ! My favorite is the potato salad. It compliments the chicken with the warm tortillas, and spicy chunky salsa. I’m not too fond if the nachos but the hard shell tacos are tasty, plentiful, and at a great price. Recommend this place for pick up or catering.

Since I moved out to Fullerton for school, I have been looking for a good, local chicken place… And guess what? I found it! I tend to get random cravings for rotisserie much like El Pollo Inka in Torrance(THEEBEST! love their green sauce aka crack in a bottle :/). Chicken at Pollo de Oro isn’t like the rotisserie chicken you get at Albertson’s for $ 6. It is very fresh, tender, juicy, and flavorful. I bought the half chicken and it came with four tortillas, rice, beans, potato salad, and salsa… All for about eight bucks. I had left overs to bring home. I heated it up the next day for lunch and it was just as good! The sides they come with are a size small… I don’t know about any of you, but I like to eat a lot of rice so I ordered an extra medium side of rice($ 1.99) and ended up with too much. So I would recommend asking them to size up your side to a medium($ 0.99) for your rice and beans. The rice was pretty good, not great. The beans were really good! And the potato salad was surprisingly good. I got my salsa hot, and it was very good also. My friend got their horchata and it was really good. Mmm: D

The best Mexican chicken by a Chinese guy from Indonesia ever! Seriously, this place kicks ass. Everything is über delicious! The beans alone are worth another visit. I’ll be a regular!

We were going out to lunch, but we favorite lunch place was closed for remodeling. So, we opted for Pollo de Oro. Glad we did. My wife had the Bean and Cheese Burrito, it was BIG. She said it was very good. I had the 2 piece chicken meal with beans and potato salad. The chicken was very tasty, much better than the other chain. And not as crowded at lunch time. We both said we will try this place again. Four Stars for service and food. The location is not the best but at least there is decent parking.

Sometimes I feel guilty for going out just to eat chicken, seeing as how inexpensive it can be to buy and cook yourself, but the stuff here is so. damn. good. You get much foods for your monies and the owner is super chill(his son? manning the counter, a bit surlier, but you know how teenagers are). The chicken itself is tender, juicy, flavorful, with a crisp skin and not much noticeable fat. Get some!

Just as you expect from a true mom & pop shop — true creativity and they take their time making their dishes. El Pollo Loco and KFC will definately give you a better price per chicken; but it will taste about 80% worse than what you get at Pollo de Oro. I’ll take any of their side dishes alone over EPL /KFC chicken any day.

sum it up: Great chicken, it’s juicy and falls off the bone. The beans were standard fare, but still pretty tasty. The golden rice is pretty much just rice made in chicken stock with pieces of chicken and green onion in it. I thought it could have had more taste. The potato salad was not bad, but I wouldn’t order it again. This place is small and a little dingy, but the staff was very nice and the food was delicious and cheap, to me that is a winning recipe

I needed to grab some din-din to bring to my parents. One of my goto meals for my parents is El Pollo Loco, so after reading a review of my Unilocal buddies Peter F, I decided to try this place out since it is close to my parent’s house. To be honest, when I got there, the place looked a little shady. I was thinking this place was going to look like El Pollo Loco or Pollo Campero, but instead it looked like a converted mom and pop dollar chinese fast food joint. There were a few tables that you can dine at, but truthfully, I would rather take the food to go, which is what I did. I ordered the Family #1, which consists of a whole chicken, 2 sides, and a bag of tortillas. All that for $ 12.99. Not sure how big the chicken was, I also ordered the 3 chicken soft tacos and chicken salad. The total for all of that food was around $ 30. Needless to say, I over ordered… again. The chicken was really yummy and I couldn’t get over how much tortillas they gave us… it was like maybe 8 pieces or more. Cool! My family likes pico de gallo, so the small cup they gave us wasn’t enough. The tacos were okay, I’ve had better. The chicken salad was basically the tacos without the tortillas. The Family#1 would have been enough to feed our family of 5. Currently, they have a deal for two whole chickens for $ 15.99 and tortillas. I think that is what I will get from now. My parents liked it and for the price, it is a really good deal… so that earns them 4 stars.

Felt like something casual and heard about this place from Marlon B and Chris D, so decided to check it out. Came here about 15 minutes before closing and the owner was still very accommodating(chairs put away, we planned to take out anyway). Chicken Meal: A TON of food! 1 whole chicken(quartered), pack of tortillas, rice, refried beans, potato salad, and salsa. Although menu seems mexican influenced, rice is a lighter style pilaf with bits of chicken in it. Also the salsa has cubes of carrots, nice and crunchy. The chicken was nicely roasted with a flavorful skin, a bit crispier than El Pollo Loco. All this food can easily feed 3 people, only $ 13! The place is definitely small, only a few tables. Great place for some rotisserie chicken, plus who doesn’t love chicken and potato salad?! Too bad this place isn’t closer to my house, it would be my El Pollo Loco replacement!

Pollo De Oro… What can I say about chicken other than my wife like it and I am not so much… :D Just like when everybody want to eat grilled chicken, I’d prefer seafood or beef. Chicken is not really in my things to eat list. Pollo De Oro is located on chapman next to the post office. It’s a small place fit between the small stores in the small shopping center. When you first look at the store, you wouldn’t think much of the place or even the food. «It’s just like any other Pollo Chicken» When I opened the chicken at home, I was surprised of how tender and juicy the meat is. It’s not what I expected. I also got the chicken rice which is very different from what I had expected. It’s not hainam chicken rice and it’s not spanish rice. It’s just chicken rice. You can taste the chicken broth and there are also lots of chicken bits from within the rice. Don’t get your chicken without your chicken rice. Overall, it’s a nice change of pace from the typical Asian/American cuisine. I’ve been coming back to this place many times since then. Truly a find within the fullerton neighborhood.

I must admit I’m not a big rotisserie fan. Maybe it’s the fact you can pick up a rotisserie bird in any supermarket or at Costco but I prefer the flame broiled ala El Pollo. However, we gave de Oro a try and once again Unilocal reviews were spot on. I ordered a family meal, which comes w/1 bird + 3 sides + a bag of tortilla, all for about $ 12. As the other reviewers noted, the skin was much more crispier than other rotisserie chickens I’ve tried. The meat was tender and well flavored and not fatty, but maybe just a tad salty. The rice was not the Spanish variety but tasted to me like the rice that comes with Hainan chicken. There could be an Asian influence since the owner is Asian. The refried bean was refried bean, nothing noteworthy. We got a load of tortillas, much more than we can consume, so we’ll use the extra for quesadillas for the kids. Credit Unilocal for uncovering another hidden gem.

Chicken Chicken and more Chicken. I never would have tried this place if it wasn’t for Unilocal. While I can’t say it beats El Pollo Loco hands down for fast food chicken, it was easily as good. And because it is rotisserie style here, the white meat was juicier than that grilled loco chicken. I will say that it was perfectly done with a beautiful golden skin. The dark meat wasn’t as fatty as the big mega chains either. However I think i found the seasonings a little salty, but as I squeezed a lime over it, the salt mellowed out a bit. I wasn’t impressed with the sides. I guess the rice with pieces of chicken and green onions was the best of the 3. Refried beans and potato salad was no big deal. The flour tortillas were piping hot. Next time I will get the hot salsa as the mild had no flavor to it. It was freshly made though, maybe I got an extra weak batch or something. There are a lot great deals here. Buy 2 chickens get 1 free, that kind of thing. And their prices are outstanding. Most people were getting food to go as they have a very limited area to eat. 4 tables or so. I will be back as the owner seemed to take great pride in his chicken. I love supporting a small business like this one over the big chains that make everything in the OC look exactly the same. Heck it’s making this entire country look exactly the same.

My co-worker suggested this, there was only 4 of us in the office that day, we pitched in for the chicken, rice, bean, tortilla combo. He drove to «Pollo De Oro» which means Chicken of Gold, on Chapman & Raymond by the 91 frwy. With freindly, quick service, he returned with the great smelling food. He got us a lot of food for under $ 10 a head. Like an earlier review, I agree, like Pollo Loco with more flavor, and its rotisserie not grilled. Chicken was amazing, the flavor is in every bite, the skin has flavor, color and texture while the meat is soft and tender like my poetry. The tortillas were good, the rice and the beans recieved moderate to high praise. I put some of the lemon on my chicken, made it even better. Salsa came with this too. I will definitely visit this place, I want to taste more of thier menu, for now, they have left a great impression on me. Interesting Week, I begin monday by ignoring the celebration of a turkey and I end it celebrating chicken, chicken of gold. Arriba!

God, I love this place. It’s like a El Pollo Loco knockoff with cheaper prices, rotisserie chicken instead of grilled, and more personality. They have some of the best chips and the freshest salsa EVER!!! Second only to Costa Brava. Second, the prices are outstanding– you can get most items on the menu for under $ 5… the burrito is GINORMOUS, as is the taco plate. Definitely economy friendly! The owners are really nice and they know my name which makes me feel special, even though it’s just sad because I come here that often. They are really cool about my special order – A chicken salad with extra tomatoes, add chips. :)
