It is 6:15 pm and I just picked up freshly baked bolillos from Rubens, they are still warm in the bag. I can count on them every day to have what I need for my dinner or lunch(ok, ok and dessert) no matter how behind schedule I am! Service is top notch and the baked goods are DELICIOUS

I was searching for a Cardenas or Superior near my bfs apartment because I wanted him to try Mexican pan dulce. I decided to give this place a try. I’m so glad I found this place! The bread was delicious & very authentic!

I have been coming to this bakery for years. I lived in Fullerton for about 5 years when I was younger and this was always my family’s go to spot for any fresh Mexican bread or for any birthday cakes. I believe they changed ownership about 4−5years ago, but nonetheless the quality of the bread has not changed. We used to visit every year to purchase their mocha tres leche cakes. They’re delicious! There’s no point in purchasing a dry tres leches cake and they don’t skimp on the milk portion of it! Their bread is delicious as well. They always have delicious pastries with a fresh creamy custard filling. Plus they have a huge selection of Mexican pastries. They might not have state of the art equipment or the highest of service, but the owner is very down to earth and their food is as authentic as it gets.

This is the only panaderia that I go to because it’s the best. Been coming here since my days as a poor Fullerton JC student back in the 90s. The service is fantastic and the bread is to die for. It’s the only bread that I felt confident enough to buy for my mother, who is Mexican and never likes any Mexican food unless it’s homemade(if you have a Mexican mom, tia, or abuelita… you know what I’m talking about). :-) The Mexican sweet bread is made fresh daily and is oh so soft! Even the conchas, which can be hard and dry at other places and typically the ones that I often avoided because of said dryness, are sooo soft and are one of my favorites from Ruben’s. Go get you some!!!

So I ordered two cakes for different days. I went to pick up one of them and the guy forgot to do it. He told me to wait 20 minutes that he was gonna do it. I agreed I wasn’t in a rush. Anyway I felt really bad because the guy runs his own business he is always busy. And I gave him a special cake that I wanted. The cake itself was so good like he had told me and for him making me wait he made my cake even more bigger and three layer cake delicious.

I was hungry and running around and needed a quick bite. I am a big fan of pan dulce with coffee and saw the bakery on my way and decided to give it a try. The place is small inside and looks a bit dirty. It’s not that greatly organized either. There is only one entrance and to the right is the coffee, along the back are the racks with the bread and to the far left passed the register are the trays with tongs to serve yourself. The trays should be by the door and you walk your way towards the register instead of going back and behind people. The baked bread racks are split by fridge items as well and not side by side. The coffee was good and they had creamer and sugar. They also had a hot chocolate/espresso machine but it had a sign on it that it wasn’t working. The bread itself was pretty good. It was soft and sweet. The selection wasn’t many though.

I like this place, its traditional delicious and affordable. If you like Mexican bread this is the place to be. They have beautiful cakes and the tamales are some of the best I ever tasted. Thank you for opening up the bakery again we will continue to visit.

This is a wonderful family-owned bakery I’ve been shopping at since they first opened. I own a market right around the corner from them so I get the torta bread fresh daily and my customers love it. I personally love the bread with cream cheese and jalapeño inside! Right on point!

Resurrected and Doing Well About a year ago, I have read about Ruben’s Bakery in Fullerton from one of the news papers as the place to go for Mexican style breads. I did not remember the address and had to drive around up and down the Harbor trying to find it. I asked around and was told that it was closed. Then a few months ago I noticed that Ruben’s Bakery sign was up again and it was being renovated. And when it finally re-opened, I dropped by and have been visiting the place at least once a week although it is a bit of drive. They have the typical sweet breads, cakes, cookies, and loaves most Mexican bakery would carry. In the morning people line up to pick up their breakfast. My favorites are bolillo(tastes like baguette), concha, cheesecake(not as heavy as American) and Salvadoran quesadilla(available on weekends).
