Great facility Great volunteer staff Great actors While we have seen plays we didn’t like, it was the story not the actors or building. This is truly a gem within Gainesville

What an unexpected pleasure. So, last night I went to see The Producers. The production was funny, well timed, and full of talented people doing a local take on a classic piece. But this is not a review of the show itself, because those change — rather, I’m looking at the building, production values and atmosphere — as compared to what you might expect in live theater in a city of about 100K people. One word: Stellar. I honestly did not expect this level of professionalism in a volunteer community theater. I arrived at 7:40-ish for the 8 pm show, and got a great deal on a 10 $ student rush ticket. I was surprised to discover actual musicians in the orchestra pit, and an almost sold out show(prolly 95% based on my visual survey) The building appears to be just a few years old, and the stage was ample enough to hold a rather large ensemble cast — the stage business was handled well — there must be a ton of space backstage, or they’re really good at ‘making it work’. Note: My ‘student rush’ ticket was 1st row, stage right — 3 from the end. Not a terrible seat, but I’d sit a bit further back next time.
