Good Fortune Buffet

Nice little place on South 13. Me and my companion went in and there weren’t many customers. Majority of the dining area staff was sitting in the first booth with their children. The food was typical. Nothing really stood out. Just another Asian buffet for $ 10.

Update: Still love this place. $ 9 all day dinner on Sundays, so I took advantage. Tried every flavor of ice cream, shoutout to cookies n cream n strawberry. I do wish the dessert bar had more, maybe toppings for ice cream or other little add-​on. What they have is well-​done though. Maybe it’s just because I was a lot of the same stuff so im keeping the turnover rate high, but the napoleons were great this time. And the donuts — not regular Chinese donuts!!! Im not lying when I say these are bakery quality Chinese donuts. Not «good for a buffet,» not sit-​down a la carte restaurant good, like that best Chinese donuts I’ve ever had. I was shocked too. A little too much butter/​oil on dishes like the seafood mixed vegetable, but thats not normal I dont think so I wont sell the farm yet.

The place is nice and clean. The sushi is very good. Each one is about $ 10 for dinner, which is definitely worth it.

This is where dreams of mid-​range chinese fare go to die. Absolutely treacherous and I genuinely think this place would benefit from a visit from the health inspector. Horrible, horrible «service.» When I leave only having stomached curly fries and noodles, I don’t think that warrants 10 dollars.

I was on my way back home from Gainesville yesterday and decided to check this place out. Let me begin by saying that I don’t typically hold buffets to the same standard as regular restaurants. Since food is cooked in bulk, there are sure to be a miss here and there. That being said… This visit was just downright awful! From the moment I walked in, I had a gut feeling that I should walk back out and go next door to a decent Thai place and be done with it. But against my gut feeling, I chose to check it out. I noticed first a pretty big sushi station that went all around in a circle. Unfortunately the plates were either completely empty, or just about. I did manage to wipe out pretty much what was left, but after taking it I wish I hadn’t. The fish didn’t taste fresh and everything was stuffed with cream cheese to stretch out the lack of the unfresh fish. I then got a bowl of hot and sour soup that I only could stomach one bite of. I love hot and sour, even bad hot and sour at least resembles hot and sour. This had a very odd gnarly taste that made me say one bite was enough! The BBQ spare ribs tastes like there was American bbq sauce on them mixed with a five spice rub and it was jarring. The general Tso’s chicken had an identical flavor to the honey chicken, and all I tasted was sugar. The Hibachi portion looked like the raw food was yesterday’s leftovers and had been sitting out all day. I didn’t dare try it (not that I could have if I wanted to since it stayed unmanned all lunch long) I could go on, but this was the worst of it. The only thing edible was the ice cream sadly… To put a cherry on top of one of the worst lunches I’ve had in recent memory my fortune cookie was stale and was missing the fortune! No kidding! If I were you I would avoid this place at all costs!

Mid range buffet. Service is usually very good. However food is somtimes off (General Tso chicken is not supposed to have jalapenos in it, Last few visits food dishes were mostly empty.
Good value for the price

I’d say this an above-​average Chinese buffet. I thought the sushi selection was solid and on-​point, good seaweed salad, and spicy kimchi. The hot food was mainly good, save a few dishes. My favorite was the bourbon chicken and the stir fried mushrooms with onions. Dessert was ok, but the unlimited self-​serve hard ice cream redeemed it.

So, we were passing through Gainesville and were in the mood for Chinese and figured we would try this place out as it had decent reviews!
Well, let me start out by saying I didn’t enjoy one single bit of this meal! It was 7:30 on Saturday and nothing tastes fresh. All of the seafood on the bar literally tastes like they let it sit and thaw on the counter for hours before cooking!
I ate 1 piece of tuna sashimi and now I’m actually worried that I may get sick.
Extremely upset that we spent money to eat at this place!

Place was ok the first time but the second time was terrible. All the food was cold and disgusting. The staff is very rude. I asked for more chicken on the hibachi and the guy said they were out and then laughed and walked away. I asked the server and 10 minutes later she brought some out. The place is disgusting, stay away.

This place used to be a rat hole until new owners made it better! Thank God the new owners took it over and remodeled it and made it look like a 4 restaurant. Even the food is better.

5 starts for sure! I was surprised by some negative reviews. I visited this place in may 2012 and it was okay-​ish chinese buffet back then. But they have remodeled now and I dont know any other chinese buffet in gainesville that can compete with this.
First of all, you do not go to all you can eat chinese buffet for gourmet food. It’s a place for students on tight budget who want to eat more for less. And this place goes way beyond that. Not only the food is cheap ($ 8 for weekday lunch buffet) but it has a lot of variety including some exotic stuff like creyfish, octopus salad, clams, crab salad etc. A good sushi bar is added bonus. For all those who dont care about sea food, there is plenty of chicken, pork, noodles and fried rice (and pizza too. I actually saw a person eating 3 slices of pizza) Then there is a dessert counter with some pastries and ice cream. Nothing for vegetarians though. Sorry.

Ummmm… just don’t.
The food is not very good, and some of it was just cold. It was 7pm on a weeknight and there were several tables in the place with customers. But they had several empty trays on the buffet. And we sat there for 30 minutes. Still no refilling of the buffet items. The hibachi guy packed up and left at 7:15pm. I was unaware that this is a closing time. But hey I guess this is Florida so maybe the average busy time is a lot earlier than where I moved from.
And to top it all off, there was an odd and slightly putrid smell coming from the sushi area. So for heaven’s sake do not eat that. While you’re at it just don’t eat at this place. I don’t know how they’re still open if this is their typical practice.

I created an account just to review this place. I saw the 4.5 star rating on here and said to myself «Oh yeah! Cant wait» Im a buffet fanatic and I cant believe this place got anything higher than a 2 star. The absolute most disgusting tasting food of any buffet Ive ever been to (And Im usually the guy who likes buffets others say are gross). This place had no one in it and it was 7pm on a Friday. We were the only people and Im not kidding. It wasnt one or two food items that were gross. It was literally everything. Gross and I hope this place closes soon.

The wide variety is good to sample many different flavors and in mixed combinations. Plenty of vegetables, sea food, and meat/​poultry.
Sushi is decent quality and about ten different types to choose from at all times. I would not personally go just for sushi but during a buffet of many dishes the sushi is a refreshing compliment.
With regards to atmosphere… Clean, bright and open space. Much better than previous Buisness in many ways. Glad I gave them a try.
I took my kids once and they really enjoyed it! Lol not sure if it’s because we never took them to a buffet before but they really tried so many different exotic dishes. They can’t wait to go back.
3−½ stars till next visit and it will go to four if they are consistent.

Today was my second time being here since the new owner took over, the former buffet that was in this space was awful, however it’s been completely remodeled inside, the food is good, and this place now takes the rank of best chinese buffet in Gainesville. Keep up the good work.

Not a place for delicious and delicate food. Four stars only for its lunch buffet. Variety of foods at a reasonable price. Only good when you just need a place to fill your stomach with average taste.

Well. It was worse than the other Chinese buffet in Gainesville for me and my family. When my family visited there, we expected a lot because the other review seemed good. However, after we tasted some foods especially the number of sushies, we totally disappointed. It looked nice and clean though. The actual taste wasn’t as good as other sushi that i have ever tasted; the rice in the sushi was so terrible. Some fruits’ color looked darker than normal; it looked like it’s been old. Other foods were a bit dried and were not tasty as well. I think i won’t visit there again.

This restaurant had a HUGE makeover. It replaced the old china super buffet and let me say this: it is so much better. The interior is sleek and clean and the food is better as well. This place has a sushi bar as well as a hibachi. I didn’t try the hibachi but the sushi was delicious! Talking to the owner, he said that they are under a new management (different from china super buffet) and he was extremely caring about how to make this place better (I love owners who care about their customers) one last thing, beware of the amount of food there are on the buffet, you might have to come back for more! Definitely recommend!
