EATATYOUROWNRISK!!! Have eaten here a few times without issues. But tonight there was a COCKROACH in the bottom of my bowl of bi bim bap! We were sitting at the sushi bar and showed the sushi chef. He said sorry and then asked if he could get us some fried ice cream! Like I want any more food from this place ever again! I feel like throwing up, not eating fried ice cream. And, instead of giving us our meal for free, they just took the cost of the bi bim bap off! They are lucky we did not take a photo and report them to the board of health!

I was in Gainesville for 6 months and this was(by far) my favorite restaurant. The people are friendly and serve you well. I would highly recommend the Miya sushi roll. It’s the best that I have ever had.

This is our favorite sushi place. The food is always delicious and the staff is always friendly and helpful. We highly recommend Miya sushi if you’re in the Gainesville, FL area. The captain crunchy roll is my personal favorite.

They have a big sign out front that says«UNDERNEWMANAGEMENT», I had been before and had a good experience so was excited that if they were advertising like this it would be even better than before. Wrong. We ordered the Miya appetizer sampler and 3 sushi rolls. The sampler was ok, nothing special, dumplings and shrimp tempura tasted frozen and sauces were just soy sauce and 2 other ones straight from the bottle which our server did not identify when serving us. Sushi wise we got the ring of fire, orange blossom, and Mexican roll. The topping on the ring of fire was delicious and the other two rolls really good as well. Even though the food was pretty good, the service made this experience very awkward. Our server seemed very unaware of the menu and just confused in general. Didn’t know what plum wine was, had to flag her down to get the check or anything else and was just generally inattentive despite the restaurant not being very busy. She also took our sushi away from the sushi chef before he was finished so then had to take it off our table so he could apply sauces and stuff. Just another small thing but water was served in those big red plastic Coca Cola cups and for a nice and decently priced restaurant this seemed a little inappropriate. Maybe this«new management» should take a little more time training their staff, or at least hiring people who are actually interested in working there.

In town on business and was craving sushi so decided to try Miya based off of recent reviews on Unilocal! The Miso Soup was on par with most Japanese establishments. The Rainbow Roll was good, but just your typical roll you’d expect to find anywhere. The best and biggest surprise was the Miya Special Bowl. All of the flavors went very well together and the portion size was great. The next time I come here, and yes there will be a next time, I will most definitely be ordering the Miya Special Bowl again.

This is an overall good sushi place. It’s located in a strip mall that was near my hotel and I was in the mood for sushi so I tried it. It was a Tuesday night and there were only a couple other people in the place. Service was attentive but not overly so. As slow as the place was I expected the wait staff to maybe come around too much but they didn’t. I had salmon and tuna nigiri, California roll and their TNT roll, which is a spicy tuna roll. I like sushi but I’m not super adventurous. The salmon was very good, smooth and buttery texture. The tuna, not so much. It was tougher and a little dry. The TNT roll was spicy, but not in the way I expected. I expected a wasabi type of spiciness but it was more of a jalapeño type of spicy. It was good. Overall a good place, I would go again.

Probably more like a 3.8 but I rounded up. Spicy salmon avocado bowl was great… recommend it! Miso soup was standard. Appetizer tempura came out after everything else. Rolls looked pretty and were tasty. Person I was dining with said the yellow tail wasn’t super fresh but I am a salmon person so didn’t impact me haha. Lots of parking. Super friendly and attentive waiter. Fast seating.

Anyone can have an off day, and this was our first time visit to Miya Sushi: perhaps they were having a bad day. It is rare that we walk out of a restaurant before ordering, and the restaurant was very full, only 2 empty tables, meaning a lot of people must like it, and this place has good Unilocal reviews, but our experience was so off that we walked out. We were hungry and cranky when we entered Miya Sushi around 7:00pm on a Tuesday. There was no one greeting, and we stood for a few minutes before a waitperson came to seat us. She was not particularly welcoming, but at least we got seated and I was happy for a while. Over 15 minutes passed before she came back with menus. We ordered wine and sake right away. We also told her that we were starving, we always get the same things at sushi restaurants, and we would like to go ahead and order. She said okay, and that she would be right back with out drinks to take our order. That was not what we asked for, but I guess she was, «in the weeds,» and needed to go. So I opened the menu to take a peek at their offerings. The menu was IHOP sticky with something on the inside, and Jeff’s menu was smudgy with what looked like rice water run off. I also had time to notice the dust covering the artwork above our table. I will add pics of both of these things. 15 minutes later we walked out having never received our drinks. I would give them 1 star based on our experience. Like I said, anyone can have an off day. But there is no excuse for sticky, smudgy menus, and dusty wall hangings in a sushi restaurant. If so little attention is paid to cleanliness where I can see it, how diligent are they about keeping things clean around the kitchen and behind the bar? Miya may have just been having an off night, but based on cleanliness, I think they need a new Manager.

Overall, a good and reliable restaurant. I wouldn’t say it shines above all else, but you do get affordable food and a nice atmosphere. Sushi is good for its affordable price. There’s a decent variety of Korean food to choose from. It’s not a typical pan-Asian restaurant where they only offer 3 choices from each country. Bento boxes aren’t my thing, but I have to admit that it’s a good value. My favorite item thus far is the seared tuna tataki! I am on the hunt for some decent soft shell crab in town, but unfortunately, I didnt find it at Miya either. It wasn’t charred, but pretty dry and just didn’t taste good.

Miya sushi is definitely a reasonably priced restaurant to go to if you’re craving Asian food. The restaurant has very spacious seating and is very clean. The price ranges from $ 9-$ 15. Although they aren’t quite as busy as most restaurants during lunch or dinner time, I think that they always deliver with great servers and food. They’ve recently revamped their menu with Japanese/Korean cuisine ranging from traditional Japanese dishes like ramen, rice bowls, and fresh sushi to traditional Korean food like bibimbap and kbbq. My favorite thing about Miya sushi is their weekday lunch specials that lasts until 3:30PM. There is a set list of the bento boxes that range between $ 9-$ 12 and it comes with a soup or salad as well. The bento boxes are most worth for their money because it includes a meat entrée, white rice, some dumplings, and a specialty side dish. In addition, their sushi is so fresh and the portions of raw fish is so worth the money you’re paying because they definitely aren’t stingy. I shared the dragon roll special with a friend which consisted of one of their specialty dragon rolls and one house roll(I got the red dragon and spider roll). When they came out, they were about 8 full sized pieces for each roll and it was so filling. All for less than $ 20! I’ve gone here so many times and haven’t once been disappointed. So it’s definitely a place to try if you haven’t already!

Ordered online and time estimate was off by over 1 hour. Would never order from them again. Do not order through Unilocal or «Doorstep Gainesville» ever!

My husband and I went here for dinner Saturday. There was only a couple of other tables occupied. We ordered sushi, Peter Pan, Godzilla and another one I can’t remember. The rolls were good, very big. I can’t they were the best I’ve ever had but we picked those particular ones out so that’s on us. The waiter was nice but kept sitting down to have a conversation with a girl that came in. Only negative is that we told the waiter we eat LOTS of ginger and we had to ask for more 2 times(not to mention there was only a tiny bit on the side when the rolls initially came out… for 2 ppl and 3 rolls). The sushi chief put enough to cover the bottom of the small round bowl(which is like 2 – 3 inches in diameter) finally the waiter just went behind the counter the 2nd time and dumped a bunch in the bowl which ended up being just enough for us to finish our rolls. It was good enough that I would go back again but I would try some different rolls or maybe some of the Korean options. We went to dragonfly the first week in Gainesville(mid September) and comparing the two, I would go to dragonfly first.

This is my favorite sushi place in Gainesville. I first visited Miya a few years ago when they were offering a Groupon. My husband and I each got two sushi rolls. The fish was fresh, the rice was perfectly sticky, the service was great, and the food was delicious overall. We have been back several times since that first visit and are never disappointed. Miya’s sushi easily rivals Dragonfly’s, but the price is way better. Also, the place is sort of an unknown hole in the wall, so we never have to wait for a table, and usually the place is nearly empty.(It fills up a little more on Friday/Saturday nights, but again, I’ve never had to wait to be seated.) On my most recent visit this past weekend, we noticed that the menu had changed. In addition to sushi, Miya now offers Korean barbecue! I was nervous about trying the new Korean menu, so I went with sushi, but my husband tried a vegetarian bi bim bap bowl. Not only was the egg beautifully fried and the bowl HUGE(so much food!) and delicious, he also received the traditional Korean salads(cucumber salad, pickled daikon and carrot, kimchi, etc.) beforehand. I tried them all, and they were soooo good. We were so impressed with the taste and how much food he got, but we were even more baffled by the price: $ 9 for all this food! While we love Garlic & Ginger, Miya may now be our go-to spot for Korean food. The combination of price and quality cannot be beat. And, as always, their sushi was fresh and delicious, and the service was friendly and prompt. If you have not been, you must try it!

I’m giving it 4 stars because it was very good. Service: Our server was very polite and kind. Atmosphere: It was a bit dark, the ceiling light was not on, but the decorations was very calming. Price: very reasonable. Food: The food was decent. I like the unique selection the menu had to offer. I got the noodle soup, but I thought it was a bit too salty. The yellowtail sashimi I ordered was very small but it was fresh.

So short and simply: I’ve been to this place a few times(probably about 5) and every time I’ve went I’ve usually enjoyed their food and service. Now, that being said, this place isn’t perfect. I’ve had moments where service has been slower than I’d like, or the fly in your food moment(which is always an unpleasant experience). Each of those moments, service has taken note of that and done something to soften those blows such as apologizing, providing food on the house, or comping a bit on the bill. Overall, good food, nice yet slower service, a tad pricy.

Layout of the restaurant is very awkward. Then the power started to go out… Not once, not twice, but literally a dozen times. They had a «special» V-day menu, one they adhered to so strictly it was irritating. My wife wanted to order the California roll, but the waitress insisted that we must order the entire«special» combo to get the California roll. Thumbs down.
