If you’re coming to sushi chao you’re not expecting a anything fancy, basically just a to-go restaurant with seating so you pretty much get what you expect/pay for. I usually get the sushi bowls which are pretty simple but nice for just customizing your own bowl. The portion size is good and only around $ 10 when you sub brown rice. Quality isn’t super high but basically what you would expect to get! P. s. I’ve had several friends who have gotten food poisoning from the buffet so definitely STAYAWAY!

So, I went to this place on a whim… I am a fan… Keep in mind I went during lunch. When you walk in you have a couple of options for lunch… you can get the hot bar or you can order sushi… the hot bar is 49 cents an ounce(for every 10 oz you get free white rice…) Cant beat that!!! Free is always for me. I was feeling greedy so I got both. I tried the creamy chicken… Im sure that is not the name of it but it was great… looks like sweet and sour chicken but the sauce was a little creamy. I enjoyed that. The thai veggies were great also… I try to get in some veggies… for nutritional purposes… lol. Sushi — I ordered the Rock and Roll…$ 7.95…awesome. It had three types of fish… on top but not in the roll. Which I thought was great. The thing I liked about it was that all the fish were mixed together delicately laid on top… which made it preeetttttyyyyy… isn’t that what sushi is about…:) Seating: They have outside and inside seating. Keep in mind this is a very small restaurant… Im sure during heavy lunch times you may need to get your meal to-go… Parking — This restaurant is located on the campus of UF… in a small shopping center… parking is limited…

I absolutely love this place! The sushi is always fresh and you can’t beat the prices. I highly recommend them, you must try the spicy tuna don bowls and wontons they’re the best!

Went for the first time not long ago, and definitely liked the place. Not going to say that it’s the best Chinese food I’ve eaten, but it was yummy and fresh. The rice was free, which was definitely nice.

Warning! This review ends with graphic personal information. I cannot recommend Sushi Chao. It is interesting, and it has a place in the Midtown line up, now that How Do You Roll had gone out of business, but I should not be going there again. I also should exclude myself from critiquing the by the ounce food, while commenting on the by the ounce concept. I am not going to, but I should. I have only sampled 4 horrible ounces, which does not qualify me to responsibly critique that food. Still, I like the whole by the ounce concept because it encourages you to make a choice of how much unhealthy fast food you want to put in your body to sustain yourself until you find healthy food. If you are going to eat that goopy, salty, fatty, oily, cafeteria looking Asian Fusion mess, you should be able to choose not to pay for it to be heaped on your plate. I have been to Sushi Chao 6 times to eat sushi. I keep going back because I meet the alcoholic’s definition of insanity; I keep doing it over and over expecting a different result. I go there because it is convenient to my daily routine, I like sushi, I love sake, and I cannot survive in the dark cave that is Tatu — I will review Tatu another day. THENEXTPARAGRAPHISNOTFORTHESQUEAMISH, ORFORPEOPLEABOUTTOEAT. So I have been there with my husband 6 times, and all six times within 5 or 6 hours, we have both gotten the poopie squirts every single time. My husband thinks it is the seaweed salad, because it always seems a bit off to him, but I do not eat the seaweed salad, I eat the cucumber salad. It has got to be the sushi, either the tuna or the salmon, or both. We order the same thing every time. We order 2 straight up tuna roll, no spicy mayo-sauce on it, and 2 straight up salmon rolls. We do not eat the pickled ginger — again it seems off — but we do get sides of roe. It is probably not the sake, but I have to admit that the sake bottles never look clean when they bring them out, and the sake glasses are just nasty. The whole place has a serious cleanliness problem and anything that is not disposable should not be trusted. So, I do not recommend Sushi Chao, but I am giving it 3 stars because the next day I have lost a little weight and gained a super sexy, flat stomach. That is totally worth 3 stars in my book.

Sushi is decent. Cooked food is MEH. Service sucks. The surly giant blonde female at the register is never nice, always rude and zero percent helpful

Went here to grab a quick bite before the Gator Baseball game Friday night. I ordered a Sushi Combo box that was really good. The reason this place lost two stars, is because of the customer service. My boyfriend and I arrived here around 7:50, and received our food at 8, which I had no problem with, because I know sushi takes a while(I do have to say the two of us and one other table of two were the only ones in there). The problem came when I noticed the employees taking down all the signs for food and cleaning all the tables, removing all the soy sauces from each of them. I felt so bad that my boyfriend and I came in close to closing time, I went to look at their summer hours and found out they close at 9pm, but the clock just hit 8pm. Not only did they make us feel rushed and unwelcomed because they were frantically cleaning up, but twice the employees saw people loitering outside the Sushi Chao door and were gossiping among themselves about how much they did not want new customers to come in, even saying«I’d pay them not to come in here». I understand that working isn’t fun, but it’s your paid commitment to your employer to work for your entire shift, not whenever you’re tired of it for the day, and regardless, if you must complain, do it out of earshot of your customers. It is bad business and lost money when your employees lose sight of doing their job. I wanted to message someone in Bento Group about this complaint, but I couldn’t find an email in their website, another inconvenience. As for previous experiences with Sushi Chao, their employees were never the most cheerful, but helpful. Food-wise, the serve-yourself bar is a step above typical asian mall food at a step above typical asian mall food price, and the free white rice(if you go over 10 oz) is one of the best parts. Sushi is decent, I would say the best on campus and at a fair price. I come here to satisfy asian cravings between classes, but will be taking in my latest visit into consideration if there is a next time.

FRIEDRICEHASROACHES! Whatever you do, do not eat here! I found a roach in my fried rice and the manager who looks like he’s 14 has a huge attitude problem. Worst customer service I’ve ever seen in Gainesville. Obviously this place is run by kids and not hygienic. Beware, unless you want to crunch on some roaches for dinner. I used to go here between classes for a quick bite but never again. I can’t even drive by this nasty place without getting nauseous!

Sushi chow is a great value and pretty good sushi! I realize Gainesville has several«upscale» sushi places, and this is not one of them. For this reason, you get a decent meal for a value. That is not to say that sushi chao doesn’t deliver quality. Its premises are clean and welcoming. Best of all, it’s super convenient to campus!

Great place to grab some good by the ounce near campus. I visited yesterday and they have changed the take out plates once again. White isn’t as flattering as black but that’s another story. It’s a nice atmosphere and plenty of seating outdoors too.
