El Chilango

For the past year I have been looking for real tacos near DC. I have finally found the place!

This little casa rosa produces muy auténtico dishes that are cheap and made with love. Being that it’s located inside a pink house in the middle of a neighborhood, it’s exactly what you’d expect: delicious homemade cooking, served by incredibly welcoming people. Admittedly, I’ve only ever ordered their Chilanga torta, but once I found this gem I just can’t imagine ordering anything else! The tortas at El Chilango are grandísima, so beware, a «small» is enough for two to share. But, ¡caray! it’s tasty; chock-​full of meats (your choice; mine is carne) covered in chilaquiles (tortilla chips and queso, basically), guacamole, jalapeños, lettuce, and an amazing salsa/​sauce, all stuffed into a giant roll of freshly-​made bread. And once you add one of their homemade salsas (salsa bar includes a variety of choices, ranging from mild to spicy), you’ve got yourself an outrageously amazing piece of art, really — la mejor comida! I usually stuff myself silly after ordering my usual chilanga torta (and that’s just from me sharing a SMALL with my bf. Do NOT underestimate the size of these babies!
