Not sure if this place is owned by the same people as Taco Bar in Rio, but this is just as good. Got a taco platter and a torta to go. Food was great and the prices are unbeatable. Would choose this over Rio because there are more menu options and location is closer.

Taco Bar is one of my favorite places in Olde Towne. The food is delicious and beyond well-priced. The restaurant doesn’t look like much but it hides some really good food. Don’t let that fool you — the food is fantastic and service is generally pretty quick! I love the tacos! They are more traditional with some deliciously spiced meat(try the kind with pineapple!). There is a salsa bar that has salsa, hot sauce, and other condiments to make the food exactly to your taste. This place is definitely a gem!

Very small but delightful food and people. The cashier was very patient and helpful as I tried to decide what to order, answering my many questions with a smile and a little chuckle. I got the tacos, one of each, and they were so packed with meat that you needed the double wrap that comes with them. It was a little short on the offered(buffet bar style) toppings, the sour cream was very thin, and I wished the sauces would’ve been labeled for newbies like me, but I enjoyed my experience. Prices were nice. Oh! And, the corn torts slightly crisped where awesome! Really good flavor and texture.

Good food! Randomly saw this place as I made a wrong turn onto Russell ave while waiting for my GPS to recalculate. I saw brightly colored writing on the store front that said MEXICANFOOD. so I had to pull over. The place itself is small, and the parking was slightly crazy this day, but those 2 factors are the makings of any good food place. I ordered the flautas(which they also call taquitos) and carne asada combos, and a side of chips and gauc… and we enjoyed it! I love their style of chips because they were fresh, crispy, and hot when given to me. However, I do prefer(traditional) flautas cause of the flour tortilla wrapping, as opposed to the corn tortilla that was actually served, hence the 4 out of 5 stars. Overall, the food was tasty and had a home-cooked feel to it. If I need a quick, delicious Mexican food fix, this will likely be my go-to place. The lady taking my order was very polite and patient with me because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to order(I wanted everything… and therefore had severe sensory overload!!). There is also a nice little salsa bar to top off any additional flavor one would like to add to their order. Highly recommend!

The food was decent; it did not«wow» us. We ordered a beef tongue and pastor taco combo and Carne Asada. Taco was delicious but needed a bit more flavoring to it. After adding lime juice and a dash of salt, it was good. I love the salsa bar and how fresh it was! Carne Asada was okay… It didn’t really meet our expectation. we definitely had better one elsewhere. Overall, it was a good value meal. Cheap& Fast. However, we have had better tacos elsewhere in this area!

Not to be confused with the other Taco Bar near the Washingtonian Center, this place is also good. Different owners(family, perhaps?) They have the same name and concept, but their recipes are different. Hence, the other reviewers saying they dont have the same food. Bottomline, they are not the Taco Bar 1 and 2. They’re just on their own. lol. My husband tried to use the groupon at the Washingtonian Center location, and they said they didn’t have that promotion. That’s when we decided to have mexican food two days in a row. No complaints there. We frequent the WC location because the food is sooo good! Anyway, first time here, and we had good experience. Parking was plentiful. Lady at the counter was friendly. Place was clean with fair amount of seating. Menu is the typical tacos, tortas and burritos, but they have specials! Got the torta especial– good big sandwich with toasted bread, ham, hotdog, breaded porkchop and slices of avocado. We also got lengua taco(I always do when its on the menu) — hefty amount of lengua(yumyum!). We also got a burrito cause its cheaper for what it is– I’d say ok. Oh and we got the choriqueso. It’s 4 tacos with chorizo and cheese for 6 something $- ate it the next day with fried egg. Prob better when it was fresh, but hey chorizo was flavorful! They give you containers to fill from the bar. Choose your sauces/salsa. I’d say they’re good in their own right.

Magic or Bird. Manning or Brady. Manhattan or Brooklyn. In the same vein, we have Taco Bar Olde Towne Gaithersburg or Taco Bar Rio. Without a shadow of a doubt, these are the two premier taco places in Gaithersburg. Foodies have been debating which is the better of the two for the greater portion of the past decade. The biggest differences between the two is that the Olde Towne one has more seating and is frequented by more Latinos; meanwhile, the Rio one has less seating and is frequented by more millennials. The former is its own location. The latter is also a beer and wine store. It really doesn’t matter which business you support because both are striving businesses. They are also both owned by brothers. However; if I have to choose, I prefer the Olde Towne location because of my strong East Gaithersburg values. ________ Some of the lesser known items that people don’t typically order are the sopes, sopa y tortas. Sopes are deep fried corn tortillas piled on with a mountain of meat. Many of the Latino day laborer with paint stain littered on their Goodwill blue denim jeans order the sopes. Sopa de pozole helps with hangovers. The tortas are big. I will get the torta de especial. The torta de especial is the biggest, baddest item they have on the menu. Weighing in at just under 2 pounds, it comes with hot dog and milanesa, avocado, tomato, lettuce and mayo. You feel euphoric afterwards. Niños y Niñas go ape shit over the salchica y papa fritos. They cut the hot dog so it looks like how the Jebediah Springfield curator dressed up the silver tongue. Sorry for this drivel of a review, I got bigger goals in life; i.e. Unilocal elite. Wubbalubbadubdub!

Love this place! Very good prices and the food is very good quality and filling! I ordered a quesadilla combo with beef and chicken and it was very tasty! I like how they have a salsa bar that you can fill up on as well. The staff was very friendly and didn’t have a problem explaining some of the Spanish dishes to this white guy.

Love this place. Great bargain. You can get an order of tacos for really cheap and they are delicious. They pile on so much meat in each taco that you can actually take the two extra tortilla shells and make two, extra tacos with them. Their burritos are pretty large too. Again packed with meat and much cheaper than chipotle. When I have a hankering for authentic tacos this is where I go. I am not sure which taco bar this one is but the one I went to was near the Washingtonian center located adjacent to the gas station and is basically a liquor store.

Pretty good tacos. I got their chips and gauc. Their guac is fair, tasted like it was just avocado. I also ordered their tres leches cake which they never put in my bag but I didn’t see until I was back in my office. I would probably go back because their tacos we’re really good but will be asking for my tres leches cake and not the gauc!

AUTHENTICMEXICANFOOD! I have been going to this little spot since 2007. The only place where I find I can grab a quick bite just like I was in Mexico! I grew up in Mexico and avoid Mexican restaurants because they are mostly«tex-mex» style. Even my parents love this place. I love their tortas, sopes, quesadillas, and tacos! They also have SIX(6) different homemade salsas!

Very good authentic Mexican food! I had the taquitos and felt like I was eating at my mommas house. I loved it! My husband had the breakfast eggs with steak and was pretty good and cheap! Free taco for checking in. That was great!

In response to the restaurant– it definitely was not quesadillas that I ordered unless you make quesadillas with a bunch of meat and no cheese? Also– we opened the burrito to confirm no beans– nice try though! You should talk to your employees rather than make the customer feel like they were wrong. Thank you. The food was good/okay but they don’t put beans in the burritos? And my tacos were served with flour tortillas instead of corn. I didn’t bother to ask them about it as the chick at the register had a stank look on her face since we walked in. Not as busy as the other taco bar– but has more seating. We will definitely return to the other taco bar but I’m not too sure about this one.

This is definitely not a place you accidentally stroll into. Sandwiched between a gas station and a liquor store, Taco Bar is easy to overlook. The«décor» is definitely underwhelming given the fact that it is quite literally amount the liquor store shelves and there’s about four or five tables in the cramped area. …but who cares about all that when the food is so good! Service was also super fast and helpful. The tacos come with a double tortilla and tonnnns of filling so one taco equals two for me. This is what I got: Steak taco — Awesome! I thought it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Pork taco — I usually really dislike pork but this was soooo good! Whatever the seasoning/marinade was is really good and once again it wasn’t dry at all. Chicken taco — I personally didn’t like the chicken at all. I was expecting cubed pieces like the steak and pork but the chicken was shredded. The marinade wasn’t good in my opinion either. I definitely wouldn’t get this again. Chicken quesadilla — Once again, I didn’t really like this because I didn’t really like the chicken in general. It was also very thin with not much chicken or cheese. Rice — I really liked it, perfect side dish to everything. Refried beans — I usually HATE refried beans but this was soooo good. There’s also a little toppings bar to the side where you can add whatever you want to customize your tacos. I wasn’t a fan of any of the sauces, they were all really watered down and mostly tasteless. I loved the pico de gallo and I went ahead and overdosed on all the cilantro possible. All in all the food was really great and I got three tacos(which actually makes six tacos for me), two quesadillas, rice, beans, and a soda for ~$ 19. I will definitely be going back and will be trying out the lengua taco and the burrito. I personally didn’t like the chicken at all so I’ll be staying away from that next time. TLDR: I definitely recommend!

LivingSocial won me over finally, and I bought a voucher. Today I visited this hole-in-the-wall(first time) and found many, many customers. I ordered three types of taco – asada, pastor, and lengua. I liked them all. Tacos were tasty and HUGE compared to all other favorite taco joints in the area – Tortacos, the other Taco Bar, all the Baja Freshes you can think of, and all other holes-in-the-wall! Salsa bar was good(not great), service was nice, place was as clean as as any other fast-food joint. They are open 365⁄366 days a year. Hard working folk. By the way, their web site shows old prices. Tacos are $ 2.99 or higher each. Forgot: I just bought another voucher as a gift(allowed by LivingSocial)!

– Delicious + plentiful. TWO tacos is plenty. No need for FOUR(like I gluttonously ordered). They’re less than $ 2.50 a piece, and there’s a toppings bar where you can load up on all kinds of goodies and salsas. And there’s an empty tortilla under each taco to catch all the spillover :) – Friendly cashier. He welcomed us when we entered, graciously took our order, checked in us at our table(quite unusual for a cashier to do!), and said goodbye with a smile as we were leaving.

I always get the tacos and burrito. Those are the cheapest and best items to order. Three out of the four salsas in the salsa bar area taste splendid. The average salsa is the red, spicy one. Taco Bar is very underrated. We need to spread the word and eschew Taco Bell!

I’m surprised that this Taco Bar location doesn’t get as much love as its sibling, Taco Bar II. Yes, it’s in Old Town Gaithersburg and not located inside a gas station(those are the best restaurant!). But hey, the food is just as good here! The menu at this location is just a tad cheaper and slightly different. I always get eye hungry when I go to Taco Bar II, so I knew it would be no different here. I wanted to order a half steak torta and pastor taco, but you can only order the whole torta. Bah! So I decided on the steak torta combo which came with a side of fries and a drink. MmMmM just as delicious as I remembered it to be! The bread was warm and crusty. The steak packed a lot of flavor and was nicely fried. The garnishes were fresh. Loved how they were generous with the avocado slices! Next time, I’ll ask them to hold the onions. Although I prefer thin fries over steak fries, the fries here were nicely cooked. Not greasy and not overly crispy. Piping hot even when I got home. I also tried a bite of the bistec tacos. The grilled steak was tender and flavorful. They were very generous with the amount of steak placed in the taco that you could make two for the price of one! I also tried a beef taquito. MmMmM deep fried beefy goodness! I liked how the lettuce, cheese, and sour cream came on the side so the taquitos don’t get soggy. The salsa bar here doesn’t have much variety compared to Taco Bar II, but it still does the trick(lots of compartments were empty). You have your choice of two mild salsas, two hot salsas, pico de gallo, and hot peppers. My favorite was the red hot salsa as both green salsas were somewhat watery. The restaurant itself is rather simple. Several tables and a small TV in the corner playing telenovelas softly in the background. The staff here is extremely friendly and patient. I’ll definitely be back for more!
