Big fan of the salad bar and soup at lunch! The salad bar is always super fresh with crisp, cold veggies and a great selection of salads. Mustard potato salad, dill baby shrimp, mixed seafood salad, artichoke and tomato, broccoli raisin, a couple types of pasta salads, coleslaw, baby pea salad, more that I can’t remember! The lettuce mix is big leafy romaine with some other non-iceberg choices. The only salad topping that I would like to see is chopped eggs. The soups are usually really good and nice to have two selections. At least one is usually vegetarian and sometimes both are. The signature cinnamon rolls are up by the soup and you can get as many as you want of those tasty little guys. You can also add a burger to your salad bar for $ 2.00 which is really inexpensive but you won’t need it with all the other offerings. It seems to be a pre-formed patty too which I wouldn’t think would be the usual burger at a steakhouse but maybe they have different ones for the $ 2.00 option vs. ordering it off the actual menu? Service sometimes is a little rushed and absent but overall decent. It’s a deal and a half though so as long as the plates keep coming so I can fill them up, I’m happy!

We went here with a large group(almost 20) on a Friday night and the restaurant immediately welcomed us and took great care of us. Everybody had a great meal and had terrific things to say afterwards. I had a filet that was made perfectly and tasted great. Other people had prime rib, you name it. Everyone was happy. The salad bar was similarly tasty. Try the crab salad and shrimp salad! And the free cinnamon rolls — I could have made a meal of those alone. In fact, I did, when I ate the leftovers for breakfast the next morning. Next time I’m in Galesburg, I guarantee I’ll be back here.

I don’t know where to start, this place is good! They have a good beer selection to start with. We didn’t order any apps, and I’m glad because we were stuffed. The server brought out bread and cinnamon rolls. Both were delicious and fresh. Man those cinnamon rolls were good! I ordered the ribeye with loaded baked potato. It came with the salad bar too. The salad bar was super fresh and you could tell there was a lot of effort put into the ingredients. I was very impressed. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and was very very good. The loaded baked potato was awesome as well. The server was attentive and courteous. If you are in Galesburg and want some excellent food, come to The Packing House you will not be disappointed!

This place is housed in an old fashioned meat packing warehouse which still has the old equipment for décor. The front door is a insulated freezer door and the meat hanging rails still line the ceiling. Service was decent but they needed to work on their finesse if they were trying to sell this place as an upscale restaurant(as the prices indicate). The salad bar has a lot of options and usually comes with most entrees for supper. The steak was decent and the sides include rice pilaf, a baked or mashed potato or some other side the waitress tiredly rattled off. The breaded shrimp was quite good, with tasty but filling batter and a sharp tomato based dipping sauce. Each table gets a heaping basket of dinner rolls and cinnamon buns which are so good people take them home. Drinks were the standard beers and cocktails. Overall a good place for a nice meal out.

Great food! Great salad bar. My steak was fantastic. Theme of an old meat packing factory is a nice touch. Highly recommend this restaurant.

This is a great small town steakhouse. Prices are in line with the quality of meat here. Steaks range from $ 30 – 37. Meat was flavorful and tender. I had the herb crusted 8oz fillet with blue cheese. It was delicious. Salad bar is smaller but filled with fresh tasty items. My only slight disappointment was the beer selection. There is nothing on tap and only the mainstream beer in bottles. I was hoping for a craft beer. A very pleasant dining experience and I would certainly come back here again.

Excellent salad bar, filet, loaded mashed potatoes, and cinnamon bread for dessert. Recommended if you are in the area. Great for small parties or larger crowds.

Very average restaurant across the board. It has a really nice old-fashioned/homey feel to it and has some retro details like the salad bar and Sunday buffet. Bread rolls were cold and the cinnamon rolls were hard from sitting out, but otherwise a nice touch. I had the steakburger, which was good but not great. A very average burger. Overall, I’m not sure if I would be back in a hurry but it’s definitely a good place to stop for a simple meal in Galesburg.

The packinghouse is one of the best restaurant in the town. The salad is good and fresh; I really liked the fries because they were very crispy and delicious. The food is wonderful and filled. The lunch was not pricy but the dinner gets pricy so I would recommend to go eat for lunch instead of dinner. The reason why I gave four stars because the cinnamon rolls were not good at all… Other than that everything is good.

Stopped in while visiting and I have to compliment the staff on the salad bar. Everything from crab salad, pea salad, fruit salad, artichoke and tomatoes to potato salad along with the typical salad fixings and many other salads. I am impressed with the variety and the price. Also offered two different soups, today’s feature beer cheese and roasted veggie soup. Will be back next visit.

Went to the Packing house last Saturday night as we wanted to take our grandson who is a student at Knox College out for a really nice dinner. Jorden was our server. We arrived at 5:45 for our 6:00 reservation and we were seated immediately. Then we waited for 15 minutes before even water was brought to the table. Jordan finally arrived, apologized for the wait and took our drink orders and also asked if we wanted to order our food right then. We said we would wait for our drinks first. When our drinks arrived Jordan came back to take our order and we ordered steaks and prime rib. We could then have the salad bar. I asked if we could get some rolls or bread of some kind to have with the salad bar and the answer was that they had run out.(it was now 6:20). Jordan said he would bring some cinnamon rolls to the table. He never did. The salad was fine. The steaks arrived and I had ordered the special filet with some type of raspberry/rosemary sauce which after one taste, I promptly scraped off and asked Jordan for some ketchup. He assured me he would be right back with the ketchup. He never brought the ketchup. I told him about it when he came to take my plate which had a few bites out of the steak and he again said he was sorry and would bring me a container to take the steak home. My grandson ordered rib-eye but said it was a bit tough and we took it home for our dogs so not to waste it. My husband got the large prime rib and said it was fine but not great. My husband also ordered a mouse type cake that was on the dessert menu. My grandson and I ordered nothing. After almost 15 minutes Jordan came to the table and said«I have looked all over the basement but can not find any of those chocolate cakes. My manager is looking now and I will get back to you» We were dumbfounded! After five more minutes Jordan came to the table to tell us his manger couldn’t find any chocolate cakes in the basement either so they must be out. We paid our bill and left. We will not go back as even the quality of meat was choice rather than prime. I would think a restaurant who specializes in steaks would have prime meat on their menu. Too bad as the building itself is very interesting to see and it would have been nice to be able to take our grandson to a really nice meal when we came to visit Galesburg. We will try another restaurant next time.

It’s the ‘Burg so calling something«good» or «great» is a relative term. That said, their steaks are the best you’ll find in town(screw you — Sirloin Stockade!) and pretty good even by big city standards. They are priced near big city prices too. Ambiance is unchanged from the 80s but it’s a steak house so that is not unusual. It used to be a meat packing plant and now it’s a restaurant. Vegetarians really have no business coming near the place. Meals come with salad bar privileges. A slightly out of date concept but whatever. Salad bar is an average salad bar. The high point though is located against the wall adjacent to the salad bar… warm cinnamon rolls. Those things are amazing and highly addictive. If you bring children here you’ll want to keep an eye on them because they WILL sneak off any chance they get and grab a cinnamon roll or two. Pretty sure we witnessed one kid consume his weight in the things over the course of our dinner. Honestly, they are so good that I can’t help but think that they have almost completely cannibalized their dessert sales. I had the prime rib on my most recent visit. The size of the portion listed on the menu was a healthy understatement and it was served on a plate all by itself but in au jus. Prepared exactly as ordered and very good.

My husband and I just enjoyed a wonderful dinner! Brandon was extremely accommodating when I called for a last minute reservation and saved us a great table in the bar as requested. Lindsay was our server and made our dining experience special. The pot roast was superb and fork tender. Salad bar was so plentiful and don’t forget to indulge in the cinnamon rolls! Yum-o. This is a must go to restaurant.

Loved the dinner I had there! I went with my dad and we both enjoyed ourselves immensely. I had the pot roast which was sensational! It was so tender I didn’t even need a knife and the carrots were divine(roasted I think) still crisp and so full of flavor! Even that mashed potatoes were amazing. My dad got a ribeye and let me have a bite and it was tender and juicy and had an amazing flavor. The salad bar was great as well everything I got was tasty(no plastic tomatoes, even the cheese was freshly shredded). Our waitress was wonderful, cheerful, and helpful. It is a tad pricey but we’ll worth it and not that bad if you don’t get alcohol. If you go anywhere near Galesburg this is a must visit!

Wow, excellent lunch! Stopped by while on a road trip at the recommendation of a friend. First of all, this restaurant is in a repurposed meat packing plant. There are scales and antique signs, but the highlight of the atmosphere are the refrigeration coils and the meat racks hanging from the ceiling. Service was good, price was appropriate, and the food was very good. The salad bar stood out as excellent! I also had black bean soup and the catfish po boy. Both were very good, not extra ordinary. If you’re in Galesburg, go for it!

I was told this was one of the better restaurants in Galesburg. It is pretty standard«Midwestern» fare — unpretentious, with simple flavors and of course, a salad bar! In that respect it reminds me a lot of restaurants I went to in my younger days in my home town of Urbana. The décor is kinda cool — it’s a converted meat packing factory and there are walk-in refrigerator doors everywhere, a metal track on the roof(where the carcasses hung) and other touches from the original building. However, the restaurant fixtures are pure Midwestern style from the 70s-80s. Think spindle oak chairs and oak banquettes. Oak, oak and more oak. The clientele also look right out of the 70s-80s; I don’t think there was anyone younger than 40 there. The salad bar is a throwback — it doesn’t look like it’s changed for 20 years. What 1970s era salad bar doesn’t include cottage cheese and crunchy chow mein noodles? Oh, and blue cheese dressing too! The menu is classic circa REO Speedwagon and includes steaks, prime rib, some chicken and a few seafood items. Given the setting, I found the food to be decent in a retro sort of way. The salad bar items were fresh, and my sirloin steak with blue cheese topping was well-prepared. However, my «vegetable of the day,» green beans, looked more like the«vegetables of yesterday» as they were mushy and had a very unappetizing dull green color. I suspect if the place wants to court a younger crowd, it will have to make some updates to décor, menu, etc. However, those with memories of REOs«Riding the Storm Out» will certainly enjoy themselves here.
