A group of us volunteered to clear dry brush on a Saturday to create a fire break. The volunteering was tiring, but worth the time and satisfaction. The compound(now approaching 2300 acres) is impressive. Beautiful rolling hills with large, caged areas holding black bears(6), lions(5), and an impressive group of awesome tigers(the count is up to 26 now). We were lucky enough to get an up-close tour of both the tiger and lion preserves, and the animals are lucky to have such a place to live. Most of the animals here were in captivity and being abused or starved to death. They sure look happy now. They were an awesome sight. They don’t do too many tours etc., so check their website for special events. An awesome place for beautiful animals. Alot of the funding has come from Hollwood celebs like Bob Barker, Kim Basinger, Alec Baldwin, and the like. Got to see the elephants from a distance, and they looked happy too. An absolutely spectacular, serene place!

Think of an African Safari without the expense or jet lag. Ark 2000 has this to offer. PAWS rescued elephants, tigers, primates etc. from years of abusive living conditions. The animals now live in the Sierra foothills. They have free range on 100 acres. Rolling hills and heavy vegetation provide the life they were meant to live. Plan in advance to see the animals in their new life as they were created to live in San Andreas, Ca. It is a true adventure for any animal lover.
