Galveston Island Pleasure Pier

Staffs were nice but nobody knew anything. The change machine was broken, i asked 5 staffs there and all I had was «I don’t know.» I even talked to the manager, the girl who was the manager even didn’t know that they had a change machine in their park. She was very rude.
I will not go back to this place again. It is a waste of money.

Pleasure Pier is overpriced for the limited number of rides available. No one there was nice and engaged the customers in a positive way. And if you want to wear sunglasses (what are you thinking in hot, sunny Galveston, TX?) or prescription glasses (like millions of other folks), you will be hassled for EVERY SINGLE RIDE. And each staff member has a different understanding of the rule. Too much trouble for too little value and all of the hassle.

We went to the Pleasure Pier while in Galveston on vacation. First off, my kids (6 and 11 years old) had a great time. We went on a Tuesday in early June in the afternoon and it was not busy at all. The rides either had no wait or a very short one (less than 5 minutes). My kids especially liked the Pirates Plunge, they rode it 4 times. My son is between 42 and 48 inches, so there were a couple of rides he could not go on, which was not a big deal. My wife and I did not go on the rides. The concessions and carnival games were comparable in price to most amusement parks or carnivals. We only bought a soft pretzel and did not play any games. There is a new Chick-​Fil-​A express across the street and you can reenter the park. There is a Bubba Gump restaurant, but I am guessing it is probably on the expensive side. The price for admission was a little surprising at first. My wife and I were $ 10 just to be admitted. My daughter (over 48 inches) was $ 27 and my son was $ 20. So with tax, about $ 70. They have a family pass for $ 90. I think we got our moneys worth. Since there were short to no waits, my kids got to ride on several of the rides and some multiple times. Maybe the $ 10 no ride admission is to keep people from just using the pier as a hang out. Parking was $ 1 an hour on Seawall Blvd. There is an app you can use to pay and you can even extend the time on the app without having to go to a kiosk or meter. I would recommend to plan on staying for at least a couple of hours so you can get your moneys worth. We were there for about 4 hours. I am guessing the wait times are much longer on the weekend. It is not too expensive, but I would not expect a place like this in a tourist area to be cheap either. I would recommend it, but you might want to go when it is not busy and expect it to not be cheap. Maybe eat before or after you go too and skip the carnival games to keep your costs down. For us, it was an afternoon of fun on vacation.

This place is a joke. The rides are alright but of course the prices are insane. The adult pass (above 48″) can be worth it if you ride all the rides multiple times, but the kid pass is NOT worth it. No matter their height, if they are under 48″ it’s 20 $. My son is 3 and could only ride 3 rides, one which no one was ever working at. So why did I have to pay the same price for my son that could only ride 2 rides as a kid that can ride 10? It was very frustrating. But the VERY worst part was the staff. I can’t say they were all rude, actually the teenagers were the nicest. But as we were walking around in the candy shop, we were getting followed like a hawk, so disrespectful. The place is very very tiny to begin with, and 3 workers were practically stepping on my feet following me around making sure we didn’t steal anything. Then my mother asked the guy a question and he just looked at us and said nothing. When we walked across to the gift shop, same exact thing. Their service alone makes me NEVER want to come back and I will make sure I tell everyone of my experience.

Very clean, very friendly staff, good food, fun rides! What I love most is there are several for my 42 in daughter to ride while being accompanied by and adult. We all got our money’s worth of the all day pass. The only thing is we like to do things as a family, but some of us don’t ride rides. Those that don’t ride still have to pay $ 6-​$ 10 to just enter the park. I understand that this keeps the «riff-​raff» out, I just wish there was a better option for families.

Not a good experience here. Not that you robbed me of $ 10 just to walk in so my 3 years old could ride rides and have fun with her father. All the workers are so cold and militant; that ruined the experience altogether. Also, parking on the street is supervised by people that should not be allowed to work with people. One of the guys was so rude to me and my family regarding parking. We paid, but made a small mistake when entering the license (typed 7 instead of 6 but everything the same). He yelled at me (yes, like I was his child… mind you I am somebody’s mother and perhaps old enough to be his) he gave us hell and hen had the nerve to say I should thank him because he saved us a ticket. Whatever dude. Boy bye! And pleasure pier bye!

I came about 30 minutes before they closed. They still make you pay full price for a band even though you can’t take full advantage of everything. Especially on a Sunday. With the exception of that minor inconvenience, it was a limited kind of fun. With not much time for rides or anything I don’t know if it was really worth the admission price. I did, however, enjoy my funnel cake there!

Super fun little stop! We spend a few hours and were very happy with the entertainment. It’s clean and has friendly staff.
Feeding the fish off the pier was fun! We didn’t think we would see them since it was dark but once we dropped the dog food in, they popped right up!
Would definitely go back!

Nicer than I expected. What surprised me was that they have rides for kids 36 inches tall and for 38 inches tall. Kids 2 and under are free but are only allowed to ride 3 rides with a paid adult. My two year is 38 inches so he could have gone on other rides but the guy said we had to keep him to the 3 rides with adults because he’s 2 and free. Either way it was raining so nothing much was open. We did get on the Ferris wheel and the lady kept us on there for a while because we were the only ones on the ride.

Aside from Kemah’s Broadway, it seems that whatever business is owned by Landry’s company it’s gonna be worth a crap load of money to actually have fun and enjoy yourself.
That’s one downfall. Another is that fact that all these places are run by teenagers without proper training and empathy towards its customers.
The biggest letdown is that it’s always cluttered with rude and uncontrollable kids running everywhere without parent supervision.
Back to the ticket prices, why does admission have to be so high when the amusement park itself isn’t all that extravagant or have a lot of space to maneuver through?!
I wanted to have fun with the family, but not for $ 27.99 per person, that’s ridiculous!
Not to mention, the Bubba Gump restaurant isn’t cheap either.
What a disappointment.

We visited Galveston recently and decided to take our daughters to Pleasure Pier. There is a fee to enter but we bought the band for the rides. It was warm that day so drink plenty of water because it gets really hot on the pier. There is an area to eat that is shaded. We didn’t stay too long because it’s not very big. We rode all the rides within an hour. Younger kids may enjoy it a bit more.

Spring Break, Beach, Sun, And tons of fun… well sorta. I decided to take my son to pleasure pier during his spring break. We parked along the sea wall in Galveston and walked by the beach goers. Once we got there you are charged 10 $ each if your over 48 inches tall just to get on the board walk, then, you pay per ride or get an all day pass. In our case we just wanted to check the place out so we paid to get in and then you have to pay 3 – 5 $ to play each game on site. We literally played every game but didn’t care to get on any of the rides. Very similar to Kemah except you don’t have to pay to get into Kemah. It was much less crowded than Kemah when we went. We played the games, got some prizes and left. Nothing fancy, nothing worth waiting all year for and you leave broke. Its a cool concept but having to pay just to get on the pier just bothered me. Your already paying for parking and every other game and ride. I would reserve my time next time to just simply hang out and watch every one else get tossed around on the rides from the beach.

I’m a beach baby born and raised in California, spent many of summers at Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Santa Monica Pier and every beach in between, I really enjoy being next to the ocean and walking along a pier or boardwalk and I was thrilled when I learned that we were headed to Galveston to check out Pleasure Pier on my recent trip to area.
Looking at Pleasure Pier from across the street, it does look impressive, but sometimes looks can fool you.
I learned that to even walk on the pier you have to pay 10 dollars, that’s just to walk on it, ok I got over that I was there with family and my granddaughter so I ponied up the money for us to walk on it.
We didn’t buy any ride tickets because we wanted to check out the pier 1^st, and good thing we didn’t because ½ of the attractions were not running, could you imagine how pissed the kids would have been if they ponied up 28 bucks for unlimited ride pass to only be able to ride ½ of what the pier had to offer? I was already disappointed with spending the 10 to get on the pier.
I get it, Pleasure Pier needs to make money, but I walked away feeling as if I was ripped off, and other than capturing a few cool pics of the pier from the beach my time spent there was awash. I’m left with the feeling that Pleasure Pier is a tourist trap and I was suckered into it.
If you are in the area or have a few hours to kill and car, head on over to Kemah Boardwalk, you don’t have to pay to walk the boardwalk, you have a few rides to check out including a wooden roller coaster. The family and I had more fun walking along the shore line catching waves with my granddaughter than we did on Pleasure Pier. Which is sad because I was looking forward to going.

While we had a great time on the rides, I was disappointed on the customer service in the food department. My son ordered a popcorn himself and 2 seconds later, he dropped the box of popcorn on accident in view of the employee. When we asked if he would just refill it just enough for one serving, he said no. I thought that was tacky, since the popcorn was way overpriced anyway.

Great place to check out, but to have to pay to get in. You can buy tickets for the rides or get the bracelet. The have games to. Now you can enjoy the Bubba-​Gump restaurant located their to.
Just not thrill that you have to pay $ 10 to enter, Where other place you don’t, «Kemah».
And no not a fishing pier.

Our first and last experience here.
1) Ordered a beer but they had just put them in the cooler so it was a hot beer. So I order one on tap. They bring my beer but not my husband’s.
2) waiting for husband to get his beer. Waiter finally said they’re out of what he ordered. So he gets one on tap. Waited for 10 minutes. The appetizer came out before his beer ever reached the table.
3) I have a Landry select club card but left it at home so they looked up my number. The manager comes back with someone else’s card and tries to give it to me. Not very professional.
4) the manager brings or food and my spoon has a huge piece of dried on food and looks like it hasn’t seen a dishwasher. It’s really gross. And she’s the manager!
5) ordered a dessert sampler which was delivered with the check. No asking if we’d like another drink or anything.
6) witnessed a different waiter taking a tray of dirty dishes to the kitchen and he was eating food off the dirty tray!
As a slight positive, the manager deducted $ 10 from our bill.
The food is not great and way over priced. Bummer.
Oh well. Great views at least.

Stopped by Bubba Gump with a Large party (11) of spastic cheerleaders. The hostess at the front (Teresa) was VERY professional and customer friendly. She took care of our party and booked us in. Thank goodness for our landrys card :)
Stan & Paul also assisted us in getting our party seated and ensure we had everything we need… Pricilla who I believe was the Manager took GREAT care of us as well ensuring her staff kept our girls and of course the adults, entertained… especially for our Birthday Boy !! A lot of the staff gathered round and conducted a Bubba Gump ritual dance /​song. It was quit entertaining.
Now for the food… we ALL were very happy with everything we got. I loved the Shrimp New Orleans and my Cup of Gumbo. for which another guest spoke highly of the Gumbo as she ordered a Bowl which was no small bowl. The Shrimp Shack Mac & Cheese was a hit with a couple of the girls and of course my wife enjoy the «I’m Stuffed!» Shrimp dinner. End the end we ALL were VERY satisfied with our Meal and Service.

The best way to experience this place is to view it from the sidewalk down the beach and take a few nice photos. I’m extra happy I didn’t pay $ 30 to ride the maybe ten rides here — but I still paid $ 10 just to walk the not-​very-​long-​at-​all pier. Pretty much every ride and food stand was closed anyways. Tourist trap. Avoid.

It’s the perfect place for a family fun day. If you are situated in Houston it is worth the drive because it’s in a prime location. It sits right on the beach and it’s so many other cool businesses to patronize right in walking distance.

$ 10 to walk around? Don’t think so. There’s a $ 10 fee to walk in if you’re not going to ride the rides. The price goes up if you do. Looks like fun if you’re getting on the rides.
